Your partner sounds legit. I love that they are waiting! Seriously. Well done team!!Good morning friends! I have a bunch of pages to catch-up. However, I wanted to share that I have an out of town friend who wants to meet for dinner and drinks on Friday with a couple of other friends. I told her that's fine, but I can't stay out too late since I need to setup my new iPhone (in a group chat). It's funny because all my friends weren't surprised 🤣. Originally, we were all going to meet today (which I was very supportive of), but she suggested Friday as a backup date. Today she asks us if we can do Friday and my heart dropped. I just don't want to wait!!
My partner promised he won't open his iPhone until I get home and then we'll set them up together. I'm going to be super jealous of everyone opening up their iPhones during the day while I'm at work and my iPhone 15 Pro is on a UPS truck in Brooklyn all day.
Wow there is a lot going on there. I knew about the single 757-200 flights, they are fairly punctual flying over my house at approximately 2030 nightly. I have seen them use a 767 at times (my guess) when the 757 isn’t available. I understand the winter must be taxing for the final deliveries, all year west of Colorado Springs to the Utah border. I actually didn’t know the Metro was the smaller feeder for them. I learned a fair amount, thank you.Yeah, generally speaking UPS is still running a pretty great operation in Commerce City (both air and ground sort for nearly anything delivered in the state, although Grand Junction will occasionally do some sort for us Western Slope yokels for Ground packages when the situation is just right [e.g. the feeder is from SLC and actually stops in Junction] so it never hits the Frange), but FedEx (esp Ground) is just a hot mess.
The Henderson facility just north of Denver (FedEx Ground sort for anything in the state, even Western Slope ) is horribly understaffed, and chronically so. Very regularly they cannot process incoming trailers in time, and it isn't physical volume issues, the facilities are big enough, just not enough people willing to work for a company that, to use a friend's parlance who left FedEx for UPS recently "cares more about fueling Freddie's planes and yachts than actually delivering for customers or employees" (take that as what it is: one ex-FedEx employee's quote, that's all), they also rely on a very, very tight air ops schedule for Western Slope service for air services: it's a single 757 that makes a stop in the Springs and continues to Junction, where it doesn't arrive until about 8AM if all goes well, and so that means, unload & sort better be perfect b/c those boxes have a 1hr drive to Montrose, where there's final sort & load, and then everything has to be perfect after that because those trucks aren't leaving until 1030AM anyway.
And, oh, all this is happening at anywhere between 6000ft up to 10000ft elevation in the San Juan mountains, in the winter, too, so, well, you can imagine how this system is basically set up to fail if you even look at it sideways even under ideal conditions, let alone short handed.
You probably have a (bit) better in the Front Range in general just out of pure density & the physics of distance/space being more favorable in that (and labor wise you might have less of an issue), but they still can't figure out that Henderson operation for Ground and their Air ops in Denver/the Frange are probably OK b/c they don't hit the same Henderson sort that is a **** show, it's been a disaster for a few year now, but when they're not willing to keep up with UPS or Amazon's pay for the actual people doing the actual service work, well, I am not surprised...
Same here but soon i’d expect to see them more on the way tomorrowHuh didn’t get such an email
You poor thing. You shut your mouth. Taylor Swift brings me joy when I listen to her.
I'm retired, and it's still mostly a write-off.This week is a total write-off as far as productivity is concerned.

New plan for me... going to leave my garage door open with my car in the garage... no way they can assume I'm not home.Or until the truck briefly slows its roll in front of your house before unilaterally deciding you aren’t home and frantically speeding away.
not yetHas anyone picking up at an Austin Apple Store gotten the “ready for pickup” email yet?
Ahhh! So it was weather-related. Expect UPS to post a full tracking transcript tomorrow. Let us know what error messages UPS posts. Big day tomorrowSo here is the update. As of now, UPS My Choice is still showing 6:22pm in ZZ. I decided to download Aftership and it's showing I cleared Customs in Louisville yesterday and today delayed due to weather in Incheon.
That is quite the pickle. I say enjoy the trip and pick up on Monday for a relaxed trade-in/setup session.Your partner sounds legit. I love that they are waiting! Seriously. Well done team!!
I, like most here, can relate to that quietly conflicted feeling of meeting any obligation on THE BIGGEST DAY OF THE FRIGGIN' YEAR! I stated taking Friday's off work, off everything, just to savor that whole day. I mean, I can have one day. 🤪
So what I've not yet shared here (mainly because it is too painful), is that I'm a Friday in-store pickup guy. I have a 1:15 pm pickup appointment set. That is not the painful part - though it isn't without some pain (and I use that word ever so lightly). This represents my first, and only, time I will ever opt for in-store pick-up. I did so thinking I was so smart. Since I'm the last stop on my UPS delivery driver's route, I tend to get my phones anywhere from 6-9 pm on Friday. Last year, the driver simple ran out of time on Friday, and when I called they said he'd reattempt the nest day. WTF?? The next day came and went. No attempted delivery. Long, frustrating story not as long, I ended up getting my laugh day device Monday. Super annoying. anyway, I thought I'd avoid all of that malarkey and opt for in-store pickup.
I'm part of iUP. What I didn't know when I uncharacteristically selected in-store pickup, was that I'd have to relinquish my 14 Pro in order to walk out with my 15 Pro. Not sure what the issue would be. I am technically still paying for the 14 Pro. So it's not like I'm pulling a "fast one" on anyone. I would think I could just request a return box from Apple, just liek we receive for in-home iUP swaps, and be good. But that does to sound like the case. Sounds like Apple will inspect the old phone on the spot, and then close that account right then and there. Had I known that, I would have stuck with in-home delivery. I like to take my time with the config of the new device, to ensure everything ported over properly (that can often take more time than an in-store scenario affords). Additionally, and more importantly, I really enjoy having both devices for a few days. I like comparing/contrasting every aspect of each device. It's a harmless, super nerdy thing I really enjoy. Anyway, the decision to select in-store pickup was an audible I called in the heat of the melee that was the online ordering fiasco. I was rattled. Mistakes were made. 😂
Complicating matters further, I'm a moron. I completely spaced that we are joining another family on an unusually late in the season (for us) camping trip this weekend. We leave Friday morning. So my scheduled 1:15 pm in-store pickup appointment on Friday is now moot. Ish (more in a sec). As it stands, the earliest I can get my 15 Pro is Monday. You better believe I will be first in line!
But... I do have a couple of options. Maybe.
Opt. #1) This is where my 1:15 pm pickup appointment may still be of value. I can designate a friend to attend that appointment for me. While I have not done that before, I do understand it's possible. Now, what I'm not sure about is how my iUP status affects that in-store pickup scenario. What I would liek to se is my designated stand-in can pickup my 15 Pro and I can pick it up from him Sunday eve. Inthat scenario, I wold need to be able to request a return box from Apple and handle th swap as I have every time prior. But I'm not at all confident that is an option. After sending this, I'll be calling Apple to learn more. 🤞
Plan #2) In case the guest in-store pickup scenario can't work due to my iUP status, my second option is to hustle and get back to Denver in time to swing by and pick-up my device in-person. This still involves the hurried in-store config aspect I do to like/want, but it would mean I have my new device earlier. Talk about a motivated camp site packer upper. By the time the kids wake Sunday morning, all that we'd need to do is close up the pop-up camper. The rest I'd have packed. "Good morning kids. Get in the car. We'll get breakfast on the road." 😂
From the online ordering process to these crazy scenarios I just laid out, what a goofy iPhone upgrade year this has been for me. And to be clear: I am not complaining about a worst-case scenario of getting my 15 Pro on Monday the 25th. Just sharin' in the groove. 😜
I will definitely let you know what UPS posts for tracking. I just am not sure if it's in KY or still in Incheon.Ahhh! So it was weather-related. Expect UPS to post a full tracking transcript tomorrow. Let us know what error messages UPS posts. Big day tomorrow![]()
