The new iMac is a "fun" product for the average consumer (and I don't mean that in any arrogant way). This tells me that WWDC should bring an iMac Pro, 14" MacBook Pro and 16" MacBook Pro with the M1-X. The new iMac does give us some clues such as:

- Glimpse at what the new MagSafe adapter "could" look like.

- Seems like we on't get rounded screen corners (not a big deal for me but would have been cool).

- If the iMac Pro does use the same chassis, we can loosely assume the M1-X will have the GPU integrated rather than a discrete chip. 14" MacBook Pro ay get 14 core GPU and 16" and iMac Pro gets 16 core.

- Better webcam (finally)

- Could it be possible that the new MacBook Pros come in more colors than just silver and grey? I don't think we will get the same rainbow hues as the iMac but we could get iPhone Pro colors.

- Announcement and ship times will be a larger gap than usual. If announced at WWDC, we won't actually get them until late June or July (which was expected considering the chip shortage).

I highly doubt Apple will leave their iMac lineup only half upgraded which gives more hope to new hardware at WWDC.
Exactly what I was thinking

Idea - Apple releases M2 end of this year with M2 and M2X, or M2X end of this year and then M2 2022 (middle to end of the year).

I just want a 2021 16" MBP with ports - just like the ports on my 2015 MBP. I'm still using my 2015 MBP today. On my 2015 MBP I use every port every week all year long. When I visit clients I use the HDMI port, I constantly use the SD reader, I use the USB ports daily, I plug real headphones into a physical jack (none of this Bluetooth crap that will only provide intermittent sound), I use the Thunderbolt 2 ports daily (LaCie backups) - I have real function keys - the trackpad isn't stupidly oversized which will only cause massive unwanted cursor movement, there's no gimmicky TouchBar to aggravate me when it fails/locksup/or-whatetever. Best of all, ZERO problems with my keyboard! Strange as it may seem - some people rely heavily on their keyboards working solidly no matter what. Yeah, the 2016, 2017, 2018, and maybe 2019 MBPs just make little sense at all. If Apple were to produce the retro version of my 2015 MBP -but with a modern processor, 64GB of RAM and a 2T to 4T SSD then I'd buy two in a snap without even thinking about it. (okay, I'll wait a bit to see if the keyboard works better than a low end pile of dung - but you get the idea).

Ofc, its clear from the line up, that the bright colors are for normal devices like iphone 12, ipad air and imac, and the muted colors are kept for the iphone pro, ipad pro and next mbp and bigger imac

next mbp The casing design feature more rounded corners.

I finally decided that I will buy the 14" 16GB/1TB version the day they announce it.
My current Mac is a 2015 13" Pro with 500GB SSD, and I always have to carry my Samsung T5 with me to have enough storage ready. Also it starts to show its age, because I recently got into video editing...
The new I/O and the M1X/M2/M?? will be well worth it - I hope they announce it at the WWDC...

I keep seeing people say that a possible WWDC announcement and then others cutting that down as it's usually app development / software. I am hopeful for a surprise.

I would welcome the new MB's as I am ready to upgrade this summer (possible fall release as they may need time).

At this point no one knows. The people saying there won’t be a product announcement are guessing and assuming just as much as those of us saying there will be. As I posted in another thread, if there’s anything 2020 and 2021 should have taught us about Apple, it’s that they have NO OBLIGATION to stick to any pattern. We got an iPhone in October and an iMac in April. Who would have thought?

My guess is that there will be a WWDC announcement. I think the iMac announcement just added fuel to that guess and it also shows how Apple is handling the chip shortage. I highly doubt Apple would want to leave their iMac lineup only half updated for a long period of time. Plus they are leaving their “pro” market products completely open to competition. Just look at how long it’s been since the 16” has been updated... Also the iMac range with its bright colors and 16gb RAM limit definitely narrows the appeal.

My guess is we get a 14” and 16” with M1-X (or whatever it will be called) and possibly an iMac Pro.

I’ve got myself prepared for an October or November announcement but a June announcement would be great.

I think it’s fair to say the ransomware the other day has been paid by Apple or the third party, so looks like we won’t get more information.

I seriously doubt Apple paid. The damage was already done. Apple doesn't strike me as the kind of company to give in to thieves.

Weren’t they supposed to provide parts everyday though, or did I miss read and that was only after the deadline passed?

How do you know this is all true? Do you work for Apple?
Nope, others already said...a leaked doc showed that the next mbp also will be more rounded, like the 24" imac ...so the imac is looking like an ipad on a stand...the mbp will look almost as an ipad with a base

I agree with this, except I'd say rather than an iMac Pro, I think what will come with the 14" and 16" MBPs is the larger high-end iMac (that replaces the 27"). iMac Pro probably comes out later.

I'm also expecting a fall announcement, but would love to be surprised to the upside with a June WWDC announcement (even if shipments don't start for another month or so).

IMO they will streamline that part of their desktop lineup and the 27" iMac / iMac Pro will be one in the same. No sense in having two models there, really. Originally I was expecting the MBP and 'iMac Pro' (or whatever they call the 27" replacement) to be unveiled simultaneously, but with the consumer iMacs being released so shortly before WWDC I don't think they'd follow up with Pro iMacs two weeks later. They could, however, unveil MBPs at WWDC and then maybe the iMac Pro and Mac mini Pro at an event later in the year.

I agree, I think the way the new lineup is shaping-up means there will be an iMac Pro coming which will replace the 27" model and have similar specs to the 14" & 16" MBPs. I can't see any reason why there would be a larger iMac and also an iMac Pro.

I'm hoping for a new Apple made 27 5k monitor. Now only 220+ PPI options to pair with macbook are LG 27 5k and Apple 6k 32".

I wish something with same design as 6k monitor, but 27 and priced similar to LG ?

Yah, I guess I see the rationale there. Especially with Apple silicon now, there doesn't necessarily appear to be as much of a reason to have a 27" / high-end iMac and a separate iMac Pro. I seem to recall that the prior iMac Pro was frankly more of a stop-gap measure (when the new Mac Pro was still to be released, and was multi-years old by that point...), so they may decide to simplify the line and just have a base iMac be the new version, and an iMac Pro (27" or larger as rumors suggest) as the larger version.

Either way, I'm in the market for the new 16" when it's released - increasingly looking like a Day 1 purchase for me. The news today that M1X/M2 chips are ramping up production is good news. I still think a late summer / fall announcement is the most likely case scenario though....

Yes, the iMac Pro was basically a stop-gap until the new Mac Pro arrived.

I'm the same as you, can't wait for a 16" M-based MacBook Pro. I'm using an M1 Air which is great, but you really miss the bigger screen.

At the moment I have the 15" MacBook Pro from 2018 and gonna wait for the 14" MacBook Pro 2021 with M1. I hope the rumors are true and we will the it as soon as possible and not much more expensive than the current 13" one.

So my 2018 15" MBP developed a severely bloated battery over the last few weeks and I guess it's going to die very soon. I'm currently pulling all data off it. Does anyone have any idea if this could make the battery blow up??️?

My even older 2015 MBP shuts down randomly every 2 min and is unusable. This of course means I need a new computer NOW and I can't really wait until Q3 for the new MBP's to come out.

So my plan is to buy a Macbook air or a MBP 13 inch/M1 now to hold me over until the new MBP's come out. Then I'll get a 16".

I'm not too pissed about this as I like to have two computers for redundancy and having a solid machine allows me to wait for the next iteration to mature more and maybe even wait for a M2 or M3 MBP.

The question is now: Macbook Air or MBP 13"? They seem to be almost identical. 200 dollar more or less don't matter. What is the better choice?

Thanks for any input.
