I HUNGER
What could this cryptic message mean? Nothing to me that is for sure
Dual Sip Silicon:
Mmm...
M2 processor that takes it power from both magsafe and USB C?
M2 processor is in the new 14 and 16 although can't figure out SIP???
Something to do with the graphics engine in the new 14 and 16?

Things are getting interesting now!

My gut feeling is maybe we see a version of the M1-X SOC with an Apple made discrete graphics chip. Current rumors point to the M1X getting 16 GPU cores which would put it around the same performance as a mid range current gen 16”. Pretty solid performance but it doesn’t quite scale with the big leaps Apple seems to be going for with these chips. Just look at the CPU and GPU performance leaps for the MacBook Air over the previous version…

If Apple wants to continue that trend, the 16 core integrated GPU will be a big step up for the 14” model but the 16” model will need something more to surpass the current generation and to better justify the higher price over the 14”. An Apple made GPU would be a game changer… Imagine Apple making AMD and Nvidia sweat the same way they did Intel…

SiP means what? Silicon in Package? Dual SiP means then 2 x M1 cores either in one package or 2 CPUs ?
I believe it’s system in package but I guess it all rather means the same.

My best uneducated guess I’ll spare you but I’m looking forward reading yours!

I just got my 2019 16 inch MacBook Pro in December of 2020 and I am wondering now what to do when the new 16 inch MacBook Pro comes out soon (it's been said around this Summer to Fall). I am hoping I can hold on to my current 2019 16 inch and wait a few years before I get the new one (2021 16 inch). I am happy to see new Macs coming out and having new better features though.

Sorry but I’d have to disagree. Any big changes Apple has made to a product without increasing the price (especially the big changes to the 16” MBP and the new iMac) should be considered for pricing patterns. We are all just guessing so at this point everything is valid… I still stick by it being a possibility that prices stay where they are now and if there is a price increase it should be a pretty modest one for Apple to stay competitive.

When it comes to Mini LED, it’s actually less expensive to manufacture in larger sizes. It’s somewhat similar to OLED in that the larger the screen is, the better and cheaper production is (this is why Samsung can offer their 4K mini LED TVs at the same introductory price as last years non mini LEDs). I’d say the iPad Pro with its uncommon screen size (and requiring touch and fitting everything into a thin tablet package) only going up by $100 is a very good sign.
Again to have 10.000mini led into an 13" is harder to achieve....agree with less expensive to manufacture in larger sizes if we are talking iphone sizes , but in ipad/macs sizes combine, not even close and not from the start (no wonder the 12.9" is 100$ more expensive just for that), they need that R&D money back as soon as possible because we talk about Apple (the most profitable company in the world). They will , eventually decrease the price maybe next year with the gen 2 products, like they did with the 2013 retina mbp
You have to disagree not because of the history but because you want to believe that the upcoming 14" will still have the same price and i get that...but dont have high hopes.
Again everybody want a cheap/same price with a redesign with new display tech macbook pro ..but not going to happen...new R&D tech and inflation will make the new 14" more expensive...for around 100 or 200$ ...but like you said, these are all guessing...but expect base starting price to be around 1899$ or even 1999$ if the 14" starts with 16gb ram and 512 ssd

Dual SiP can be for the bigger MBP and imac...since the unified things on apple now...
So if this is true, that means the custom made gpu will be still unified but not on the main SoC...so they go with unified 2 SoC, probably this way is more efficient than to have 1 bigger SoC , probably also because they can place 1 next to other on the motherboard for the MBP , on the bigger imac....that can let apple to adopt the same idea with the chin , where the motherboard and the SoC will be

keep your 16" its fine and is holding up the best from the intel lineup....
Lets see what the new one will be like...what issues will have, if any..now with Apples own SoC...we can have from gen to gen better performance and more stable upgrades

Dont think apple will do 2xM1 it will erase the unified purpose from their tech video from WWDC 2020
If this is true, dual SiP can mean that the upcoming bigger macs will have that custom gpu that we heard of, separate from the main SoC but still unified shared memory

I'm very curious about the M1 and M2 chips that may be used. I'm hoping the new MacBook gets the M1 X or M2 upgrade especially if the price will still be quite high.
But I'm quite content and over the moon with my 2019 16 inch MacBook.

Got my 16 MBP 1 year ago, and it suits me just fine. I use Turbo Boost Switcher Pro to turn off Intel's turbo boost feature and largely eliminate overheating fan noise (in most cases).

With this, I don't feel a burning desire to upgrade to M series chips just yet. The only thing that will make me envious of the 2021 MBP is the return of MagSafe and SD card slot.
Otherwise, I'm good waiting until 2022.

Plus, there's always some compelling new feature in Version 2 of a new Mac (ex. PC-3 wide color display in the 2015 5k iMac) that makes people regret buying the first version.

I agree. I really do love my 2019 macbook since it is super smooth in running. The fans are great! Also, I need to try switching off the Turbo Boost for the prevention of overheating. But I haven't had any issues with over heating so far.

I do hope the SD card slot comes back in the new macbooks (2021)! That would be amazing! I miss having those on my laptops. Macs are very durable and they do last a long time. I can wait til 2022 or even 2023 for the newer MacBook.

My 16”MBP i9 is a bit of a pain. With an external monitor connected the fans kick in almost 100% of the time, even when CPU is basically idling.

i usually turn off turbo boost to prevent the fans going completely crazy, but when pushing things in Cubase I need to turn turbo boost off and the laptop is basically a vacuum cleaner.
I’ll be selling this and getting an M2 asap for hopefully reduced heat generation, quieter operation and most importantly a faster CPU.

Egpu…. Had mine hooked up with my 4K monitor yesterday and the mbp was whisper quiet and cool all day (egpu wasn’t though….).

I will be getting a 14” m2 though for portability and keep the 16 to use as a windows laptop.

Yeah. But having spent $4,500 AUD on a laptop I’m not going to be forking out for an eGPU.
I’m hoping that the new Apple Silicon TDP will enable the 14” to include the fastest cpu.

Some people seemed to expect each computer to have it's own chip SKU, similar to the Intel model, which I've always thought doubtful. The M1 expanding to the iPad Pro and iMac suggests Apple want a decent economy of scale for their chips, so while that might be somewhat less important for the higher end machines where the prices on individual units are higher, I would expect at the least the 14 & 16 inch MBPs to share a chip or couple of chip options. Possibly the 30" iMac(Pro) and a higher-end Mac mini as well.

I am expecting the same
M1 - consumer
M2 - pro

with similarity in cour counts for upgrades and also better cooling in desktops. Hopefully the desktops do get some better GPU option also but I am quite realistic that this won’t happen.

I could potentially see the higher end chip coming in 6-performance-core and 8-performance-core options, nominally matching the 6 core i7 and 8 core i9 in the 16" Pro. I'm not sure where the rumoured 'lifuka' graphics project comes in, they seem to have ruled out dedicated graphics in the traditional sense with the SoC model.

Graphics will definitely be interesting. That’s what I’m looking forward to the most on the 16”. I’m thinking CPU wise, the 14” and 16” will be matched up pretty well (maybe a possible higher clock speed on 16”). I think eventually we will see a low cost 14” with an M1 to replace the current 13” Pro. Graphics is where we might see some differences between the 14” and 16”. I think it could go 1 of 2 ways:

1. Apple has never really made graphics a major focus so maybe the M1-X simply doubles the GPU cores from the M1: This would give us something relatively equal to the mid-higher end GPU option on the current 16”. Obviously much better efficiency and much better thermals. It’s not as exciting but I’d honestly be okay with this.

2. Apple goes above and beyond on the GPU and the M1-X does for Mac graphics what the M1 did for Mac CPUs: It’s a stretch but I think this is possible. Apple made it a point to show how their M1 powered devices have performance gains in both CPU and Graphics. No doubt they will want to do the same thing with the M1-X… This means simply doubling the GPU cores won’t be enough (at least for the 16” version). There would have to be something else… If that’s true, we could see some pretty cutting edge graphics tech in the M1X. Something that could really upset the whole laptop GPU industry. Not to mention if Apple wants their GPU to compete with current offerings it will need to have some real time ray tracing abilities as well.

This could get really interesting… We might really see Apple step things up for graphics.

Apple, especially Macs, have been the go to technologies for designers (web and programmers), photographers, videographers and illustrators too! I think the M1X would be the most innovative solution for artists and graphic designers as well as people in the video and photography field! The M1X does have more power because of the Apple Silicon. I am going to be super happy when Apple does step up the game for its graphics because most Creative people have been Apple fans.

I hope that makes sense.

Which eGPU was it?

I thought the Blackmagic was silent.
