Interesting. The rumor mill treats it as a given that the Touch Bar is a goner.
I don’t recall the pricing that way. I recall a Touch Bar premium in 2016 (followed by lower prices in 2017), and a quick Google search of late-2016 reviews seems to back that up.
Way before the stolen schematics were revealed Ming Chi Kuo said the Touch Bar would be going away. The leakers abs the stolen schematic seem to corroborate tust the Touch Bar will be removed but this just doesn’t make much sense to me given Apples design tradition. Same for the return of MagSafe. Of course, I might very well be wrong.

Apple does back-track they did with the 2019 Mac Pro.

I mean they reverted 6 years of design from the 2013 Mac Pro to the 2019 Mac Pro. Any thing is possible.I know, but I am still having a suspicion that multiple leaks might have been mixed up in this. The MagSafe might have been referring to the new desktop magnetic power connector. The new keyboard that supports Touch ID but asks the Touch Bar could also refer to the iMac keyboard.
Also, I am rather suspicious of the leaked schematics themselves. They just seem off. That top case looks like the 2015 13" design, the ports are offset weirdly, the usual Apple precision and sense of aesthetics is missing... I just have difficulty believing that Apple would literally revert five years of design decisions and make a sloppy-looking chassis.

I am sure it won't look like the schematics. They were indeed roughly drawn.I wouldn't say that they reverted it though. They have canned the can, true, but the 2019 Mac Pro has nothing in common with the previous tower design. The new "cheese grater" is an extremely innovative chassis platform which solves common issues (cooling, noise, modularity, cable management) with entirely unique, unprecedented solutions.
You see, I don't have a problem with them declaring that Touch Bar/whatever was a failed experiment and that they start over. But then I also expect a completely new design that approaches things in a novel way, not what looks like a dated chassis with poor port placement and less connectivity.

When they introduced the MacBook Pro with Touchbar, they raised the prices by $300. The entry level 13" Retina MacBook Pro used to start at $1499, but the new version with Touchbar was raised to $1799.
Since the new MacBook Pro with M1 starts at $1299 and the 512GB version occupies the $1499 spot, I think it's safe to say that the 14" will be at least $1799. I would also assume that they keep the 512GB/16GB version as the entry level 14" model. The upgrade options would be 32GB RAM and a 1/2/4 TB SSD - the 8 TB upgrade option feels more like a 16" USP.
If you look which components are more expensive in the 14" and which are cheaper now than in the previous version, I would say $1799 because it evens out:
-more expensive: new display ($$$)
-more expensive: new form factor ($$)
-more expensive: more ports ($)
-more expensive: development of the new MagSafe adapter (which could be split up in parts with the iMac development) ($)
-likely more expensive: new color options (?) ($)
-unchanged or less expensive: no Intel CPU - I would say that the M1X/M2/M?? will be cheaper ($$-$$$)
-less expensive: no Touchbar (they already manufacture the keyboard for the MacBook Air) ($$$)
I really hope they don't raise the price to $1999 to make a "statement" but $1799 with maybe a +$100 XDR Display tax (like in the new iPad Pro) or Cooks +$100-because-we-can-and-you-will-still buy-it tax seem to be realistic.
There was a rumor that Apple wanted to "please" their pro customers after years of Touchbars and dongles (I can't find it) - so $1799 with no price increase could be possible.
Personally I don’t think we are going to get an XDR display this release, and my reasoning behind it is that for months we heard rumours apple were launching a redesigned MacBook Pro at the end of 2021, also there were rumours of a redesigned MacBook Air at the same time both coming with XDR displays.I just quote myself from a month ago, because it's relevant again:
Without the XDR Display, they could make it cheaper but I don't think they will. They should, but we all know how much Apple loves money ;-)
Has there been any leaks on the weight of the 2021 MacBook Pro?
I searched this thread and around the web but did not see anything. I have a 2018 MBA and I think it's time to upgrade, but one thing I really like about it is the light weight. On the fence and waiting to see what Apple comes up with as a result. The latest rumors are for it to be announced at WWDC which is in a week or two I believe.
Leaks from the schematics and from Luke Miani’s source (so take with a grain of salt) say the thickness will be: .48-.51” (14) & .53-.56” (16) which is a bit thinner than the current models. If that thinness is correct, I think it’s fair to assume that the laptops will be lighter as well.Has there been any leaks on the weight of the 2021 MacBook Pro?

That would be great. I'm hoping the 16" gets back down to the 4lbs of the 2016-2018 15" MBP.Leaks from the schematics and from Luke Miani’s source (so take with a grain of salt) say the thickness will be: .48-.51” (14) & .53-.56” (16) which is a bit thinner than the current models. I’m hoping they can slim the battery down a bit with the power savings… It’s 100WHr right now, at the absolute max of TSA approved battery sizes. But I also want improved battery lifeThe bigger screen on the 16-inch has to account for much of that extra 0.3 of a pound, although losing the Touch Bar might get some of it back.
Yeah to get the weight down to four pounds, they’ll definitely need to shrink the battery. The chassis is already pretty light and the display doesn’t contribute as much to the weight.
I suspect they may do it anyway. With the increased efficiency of Apple Silicon, they likely won’t need the same size battery to provide 15-20hr battery life.
There will be no more Touch Bar according to the leaked schematics.Half of the current year is almost passed! Will we really have a new apple silicon mbp '16 in 2021?
Or should we open a '2022' topic?
Any estimation if the will drop 'touch bar' in the new mbp 16'?
It would be welcome to drop a feature that many users don't need, and also drop the price a little bit.
I'd say lets wait until its getting released. Then we know what we enjoy or still miss and desire for the 2022. Keeping my fingers crossed the leaks are true.Half of the current year is almost passed! Will we really have a new apple silicon mbp '16 in 2021?
