Half of the current year is almost passed! Will we really have a new apple silicon mbp '16 in 2021?
Or should we open a '2022' topic?

Any estimation if the will drop 'touch bar' in the new mbp 16'?
It would be welcome to drop a feature that many users don't need, and also drop the price a little bit.
Huh? Just because no MacBook Pros released in the first half of this year (which was never even rumored to happen) you’re saying that the second half is a wash and we might as well give up hope and redirect our efforts to wait for 2022? Fairly nonsensical, really.

WWDC is 8 days away and these MBPs have been rumored for “2H 2021” or “middle of the year” or “early this summer.” My suspicion is that you won’t have to wait much longer.

What do you think - will the 14" be quiet/silent? There are rumors about redesigned cooling system. Right now I'm typing this from a MPB2020 Intel i5 2.0 GHz. I'm checking and generating previews on Lightroom Classic and the fan sounds like a jet engine from 10 ft distance. I hate this Macbook and I don't understand how this passed any quality control. Anything above 3000 rpm is way too loud for comfort or any public space.

Unchecked this MBP CPU sips around 30W of power. I'm worried the new 14" might not be that different :(

It’s so wild when I see these types of comments regarding fan noise because my late 2013 13” MBP handles Lightroom quite well given its age. Yeah, there’s definitely some lag, and the fans do come on, but nothing like the newer machines. I owned a 16“ MBP and was unpleasantly shocked to see how hot and noisy that machine was compared to my archaic, but trusty, 13”. I returned the 16” four days later.

It’s going to be quieter and the fans will probably only start up when it’s under intense workloads similar to the M1 MBP

Max Tech on Youtube just did a video about heat differences in the new iMac configurations. In the cheaper iMac there is one less fan and it's missing a heat sink apparently and it runs hotter and throttles faster when under stress. So it will be interesting to see what happens with the 16 and 14 in regards to fans and heat sinks. I'm guessing the 16 will run cooler than the 14 and some of the first comparison vids on YT will be about this in helping people decide which computer to get.

I’m appreciating my 16”i9 MBP now that winter is coming here in Oz. I run it with an external monitor (dGPU causes fans to ramp up) and keep the laptop under my desk on the floor. It makes for a nice foot warmer 😂

The recent intel MacBooks are noisy because intel stuffed up their cpus. They were stuck on 14nm for so long and the laptops chips that intel made were not suited for the thin MBP case.

The new 14" will be based on the 5nm process, it will be incredibly power efficient and powerful than the 2020 13" MBP 10nm process. The CPU in the 2020 Intel MacBook is not at all efficient.

As for quietness expect it to be the same as the M1 13" MBP which only has one fan. The M1 13" fan barely comes on,
you would have to stress it very hard.

The 14" will have a better thermal design with 2 fans and bigger heat pipes than the current 2020 Intel MBP.

I am not worried about loud fan noise at all on 14". The M1 architecture sips power compared to Intels.

There will be a ton videos about the 14" thermal/fan noise when it comes out to the public.

As for me I 100% think that 14" will be quieter than 2020 Intel 13" MBP .

I expect the 14" and 16" to come with 2 fans. The low end 13" MBP will have 1 fan. The MBA will have no fan.

The 16" will get 10 core CPU, up to 32 cores GPU.
The 14" will get 10 core CPU, up to 16 cores GPU.

I'd say lets wait until its getting released. Then we know what we enjoy or still miss and desire for the 2022. Keeping my fingers crossed the leaks are true.

If that M1X can manage 5+ TFLOPS in the basic configuration, I could not only replace my current MBP 2015 (1 TFLOPS) but even iMac 5k 2017 (3.6 TFLOPS) and just go for an external display. Would still miss Bootcamp for some causal gaming, though :(
So, it seems that the new mbp will be at least 5 times faster than my current mbp 15 late 2013!

Folks, realistically, how likely is that new 16" will be announced at WWDC? And how soon do you think it will become availave?

Well I hope the 16” is available with only 16 core GPU. I would guess low end will have 16. High end 32.

Well it’s been reported that Apple will be briefing the press immediately after WWDC so I expect preorders to start relatively quickly with shipping late June early July… but as with the iPad Pro if you don’t order within first 10-15 minutes of preorders going live you will probably be waiting til September for delivery.

I know it’s prosser who reported it but all that was said was the press will be briefed immediately after WWDC event on 7th June.

Right. What I meant was, what timeframe would that be on the East Coast? I almost never get to watch these events in real time. Thanks.

For people who haven’t seen this new thread:

If true, seems unlikely new MBPs will be shipping before mid-July at the earliest.

Unless they’re not coming with miniLED, but remember this isn’t the only supplier of miniLED for Apple apparently.

The fact Gurman didn’t mention miniLED in his article leads me to believe they will come with standard LCD this year.

It could even be a high end BTO option (like the nanotexture glass on the iMac) that doesn't launch until later in the year? Considering it meant a +$100 bump to the iPad price, and the MacBooks are already on the expensive side (not to mention any supply constraint) it really wouldn't surprise me...

Thank you. So my best bet is to keep refreshing their online store page during the presentation to try to get in first?
Also, were the iPad pros that you mentioned available in stores in small quantities (I am asking maybe to try to catch them there)?

Thanks!

As far as I know a few people managed to pick up on launch day but few and far between, I don’t think they will be available for pre-order on the day but I think the following Friday or Friday the week after will be a good bet… but who knows… WWDC can’t come quick enough.

I would also keep tabs on other retailers as here in the UK, I managed to get the iPad Pro 12.9” on launch day and they actually went live on the site about 5 minutes before the apple store went live.

Unfortunately mine came with imperfections on the back (scratches from manufacturing) so it has been returned.

Hehe, I’m heading to law school in the fall…I just sold my MBP 16” in anticipation for the MBP announcements at WWDC. It’s a total gamble but I’ve got the latest iPad Pro for school too. Man I hope they announce these things next week, LOL. I need a regular computer and I have $2,180 in apple trade credit waiting for the 14”! 😅

I think your gamble will pay off 👍
