I really didnt expect these new models until Fall! Hopefully this all happens next week. Is it possible they go with mini-led screens? My main concern will be how powerful the GPU is. After a year of working on my iMac at home, i've gotten used to the speed of a desktop. Hoping to see major advances here!

Mini LED is a mystery at this point. My bets are on no mini LED but I hope to be surprised. There’s also a possibility that we do get it but only on the 16” (following the trend of the iPad Pro larger model getting it).

Most likely launch setup is:

- Announcement at WWDC on June 7th

- Preorders go live on June 11th (I got dibs on a 16” w/ 32 core GPU lol)

- Shipping is where things get sketchy. If supplies are good, shipping could begin June 18th or if supplies are constrained they could follow the same schedule as the iMac which would push shipping to July 9th. If Mini LED is included, that could push shipping into mid July.

Of course all of this is just speculation and for all we know, we could get an announcement at WWDC with shipments beginning later that week or even later that day

Yeah 100% all speculation at this point I personally think miniLED is going to be left out on this… potentially becoming an optional upgrade with longer delivery times…

I expect announcement 7th, Pre-Order that Friday or week after with shipping early July.

Hope you're right, but still a bit scared
Could just be nothing, just **** off to next fall

Any chance that the 14” will be able to sport the 32 core GPU as an option? I just know that the 14” will be the most popular model, wouldn’t Apple want to squeeze as much money out of peeps as they could? this would be my ideal model, but maybe it’s impossible due to thermals...

It’s definitely a possibility as a BTO option but the thermal profile of the smaller model (the 14”) may not support that config. I wouldn’t completely rule it out, though.

If the new MBPs have a MagSafe, will they still be able to receive power over USB PD? I'm looking at getting a screen with a USB-C hub so I can plug in 1 cable and have all my peripherals connected + power to the mac.

I’m thinking charging over USB-4 will still be possible but charging over MagSafe will bring extra benefits such as faster charging, Ethernet pass through and maybe something else.

Not many people in the comments believe this, citing this 'expert' changes his statements frequently based on statements of other experts...

Hopefully they’re right and the report is wrong. Hard to imagine Apple would leave their MBPs without an update for another six to nine months.

The latest rumor:

Apple obviously won’t announce the redesigned MBP at WWDC if they are going to make them available only at the end of year. People are going to wait and not buying the current models which means Apple will be losing sales for months. I still believe the new models will be available in early summer as reported by Bloomberg.

I found it surprising that so many assume the new MBPs are right around the corner. Seems too early.

Maybe Apple just announces - and discusses in detail - the next chip(s), whatever it may be called, the one that goes into the higher tier machines.

The higher end Macbooks may be announced when ready. Just like they did with the M1: announced at WWDC, the first production models arrived November

Don’t worry, they will be announced at WWDC and begin shipping in July.

Wanna bet? 🤣

I doubt it, but I‘d be happy if they did
I'd love to. :)

Seriously though, the writing is on the wall:
There's just too much going on for these to not be imminent. Now, they will likely ship a month+ out after the announcement and be limited for launch availability (a la iPad Pro & iMac), but they are basically undoubtedly going to be revealed on Monday. If you think about it it's a perfect time to show off the chops of what the Pro-tier of their Silicon is capable of and entice developers to come work on their ARM-based platform. And as somebody else pointed out that 16" MBP (their flagship laptop) is long in the tooth and needs to be replaced.

Mbp what to expect from gpu department

current 5500M 83W and that 3070 consume 93W, while this new M1x the gpu cores will consume around 40W being on par with 3070 and almost double the performance of the 5500M
This insane, and just Apple can deliver this because of the new architecture...hope others will jump the ship sooner than later and push the windows 10 apps on arm quickly because it will became ridiculous value/performance if they will not

If they can pull that off then it will be one of the most important product launches ever.
All tech and casual users already say the M1 started this trend and was the most important one...and that momentum will continue with M1x...and will end with the Mac Pro from next year....that 128 gpu core will be 17% better than Nviddia 3090 while consuming 160W, while the 3090 consume 357 W
This is becoming hilarious ....and in 3 years from now the gap between Apple hardware and the others will be even bigger IF the others dont start to do something....and that Exynos+amd it will be DOA because of windows 10 arm apps, support, developers
