I’m shocked at the lack of leaks. It’s been analyst reports constantly, the only information we’ve got is from that data breach from a few months ago.

Well, I think the most realistic day someone gets one delivered to their house is nearly 3 months from now.

Lots of waiting still.

Will be happy to be wrong.

No way it will be that long, if they’re already being manufactured. Tim Cook isn’t going to sit on inventory for 90 days, especially in crazy times like these.

Announce late oct. then take 2 weeks to ship. mid nov.

2 1/2 months of manufacturing. delay till oct for iphone rollout.

makes most sense right now.

This is Year 15 of the iPhone and it’s not a major upgrade year. The iPhone does not need an entire month to itself.

Apple will probably disagree with you. Also sept will be new AirPods and new iPad. And rumored Apple run rates for the number of iPhones is a super cycle number. Not in anyway a year 15 number that you suggest.

to say nothing of the first month of MacBook production is also slower and less than later months due to last minute assembly line issues.

We’ll see.

Not sure why iPads, Watches, and AirPods can be released in September without distracting from the iPhone, but MBPs would need to wait another six weeks.

Me too! Although Apple has been really cracking down on leakers. Even to the point of sending their lawyers after some of the more popular leakers.

That being said. The new MacBook Pros are now in mass production which means somewhere at this very moment there are both 14” and 16” retail models sitting in their box. I think it’s just a matter of time before we start getting some concrete leaks that give us a better idea of these new machines.

As a 2019 16” owner, I’m especially curious to see how the ventilation situation will be handled with the new flatter design. Being able to stay cool and run quieter will be a big factor in me upgrading.

will you order on day one or will you wait for reviews and such that discuss the heat solutions?

I know this was directed to @terminator-jq, but just as a more general point re: Day 1 order, vs wait and see.

I'm torn. I know I want to update my 2016 13" MBP to the new M1X 16" MBP.

On one hand, as someone who's "felt the pain" of being a Day 1 adopter of my 2016 MBP, I feel the smart move this time might be to at least wait a bit and see how first wave of users like it. Maybe even a month or two to see if any early problems appear.

On the other hand, I really want to upgrade haha. And although it's been annoying to have to get my MBP repaired twice (for both the keyboard sticking, and flexgate flashlight spotting issue on the display), they came out with official service programs for these on my computer. So I got my MBP fixed each time for free, and got a new topcase / battery, and new display, to boot.

I know not all models are covered in the service programs, but the first gen 2016 models did. So all the Day 1 adopters were "taken care of". Is that a good thing it happened? No, I'd still it rather not have. But net net, to me it hasn't been *that* big of a deal (I'm lucky I don't depend on it for work, just personal).

Plus, with potential supply constraints with mini-LED / chip shortage, and what might be big-time pent up demand, this could be a situation where ETAs get pushed out weeks or even months, if you don't get in right away?

Is this just me talking myself into getting it Day 1? Probably, haha 😂

I'll be ordering day one for sure! The M1 chip has been a great preview of what we can expect from Apple silicon. I think its fair to assume that the M1X will run warmer than the M1 but I highly doubt it will get anywhere near as hot as the Intel models. There's M1 iMac owners who use their machine for video editing and 3D graphics and they still stay cool and quiet.

Also with manufacturing delays, I think those wo don't get it on day one will be waiting longer than usual for a restock.

I reckon you're right. Absolutely it's going to be quieter and cooler than the piece of kit you have now. I think significantly so. Due to the bigger body I reckon it will be whisper quiet for the vast majority of the time you use it.

I think you gotta be crazy not to order asap with these machines. And then just hope your machine isn't screwed up in some way.

Why? That's quite a risk on the very first iteration of a machine with a new processor, new physical design and no doubt many other internal changes.

I will very definitely be waiting for a couple of months of reviews and extended "soak tests" from earlier adopters, which typically flush out a number of issues.

Also in my recent experience, new versions of MacOS need a couple of dot-releases before they are solidly reliable. BigSur had a number of issues on my M1 Mini until 11.3

As an owner of a 2019 i9 16” MBP I think this 1st generation fear is misplaced. How many generations did it take and they still designed a laptop as noisy as a vacuum cleaner and as hot as a toaster. I literally use mine in clamshell mode under my desk as a foot warmer in winter 😂

I'm going to be one of the early adopters. Not particularly nervous. Consumer-law in Norway is pretty good. AC+ is mostly if you are very clumsy etc.

There is always going to be problems in mass-production, hopefully the redesign is without too much trouble. Must say I'm pleased that my mid2014 13" lasted so long and skipped all the troubles future iterations had. Lucky, I guess.

Since mine will be BTO I will have to live thru people here for a couple of weeks I assume since they take longer to build usually.

I wonder what resolutions they'll choose for the panels. Maybe they'll go back to 2X scaling as the default if they bump up the resolution. I wouldn't be too surprised if they kept the DPI nearly identical like they did with the introduction of the 16". A heavy redesign might be a good time to increase the density!

I'm hopeful for a 3300x2100 screen for the 14".

also, rounded corners incoming?

it's been a while since i looked at a 16" pro firsthand.

16‑inch (diagonal) LED‑backlit display with IPS technology; 3072‑by‑1920 native resolution at 226 pixels per inch with support for millions of colors

Does this mean the native/retina resolution of the current MacBook pro 16"s is 3072‑by‑1920?

Cause lol. that's higher than my 5K iMac which is retina 2,560x1,440

?
