How likely is that they will announce it in October?
I mean I would personally peg it with a high-90s % chance. With the exception of last year (which was an off year in so many ways) the post-September Mac events have always been in October.

Specifically, there have been October keynotes in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018. 2019 had no fall Mac event and 2020’s was pushed to November with the delays of all the other products. And it sounds like these new MBPs already went into mass production a month and a half ago (https://www.tomsguide.com/news/macb...ters-mass-production-and-it-could-be-this-big). Should be ready to launch soon!

Come on apple. Same specs in both machines. I have an iPad Pro 12.9 with the magic keyboard next to me and to have the world's most powerful notebook basically (in 14" form) be the same size at the ipad pro, and be silent?

Yes, please.

Yeah, I hope they do this and bring the 16” starting price down closer to the 14”‘s. I’ve written about this ad nauseum, but there’s really no reason why people who want a larger laptop screen should have to spend $600 over the starting price of the smaller model. Screen size increases in the Pro iPhones cost $100, and $300 with the Pro iPads (where an entirely different screen technology comes into play, it was a $200 difference when they used the same tech).

I'm really excited for the new MBPs however I really don't know if we'll see them in October. Historically we would, but there really hasn't been a year like 2020/2021. The chip shortage is only getting worse and with the holidays the demand is only rising while the supply is suffering. Even if they're announced in Oct, we may not get them delivered until December.

Furthermore, so many rumors have been so off lately that it's tough to really say forsure what we'll be seeing this year. Everyone thought the AW would have flat edges and some additional sensors, and they did not. I hope something like that doesn't happen with the MBPs.

Speaking about higher end specs, is there any indiction that I would benefit from the HIGHER end CPU if my work involves lots of heavy web apps and external 4K monitors? I know I need to load up on RAM and GPU, but what about CPU?

The bigger disappointments will be for those who picked up last year's model, especially with M1. Barring changes with the Touch Bar, those that would be let down would be those who picked up last year's model and see that this year's models are only minor spec bumps. Those who have waited longer (say, 4 years or longer) to refresh will definitely see something they'll want, regardless of how on or off the rumour mill may be.

why would anyone who purchased an m1-mbp/a be dissapointed?

Because if those who purchased a M1 MBP from last year are also going to purchase this year's model, if the specs for this year's model isn't big enough to warrant the change, they would be more disappointed with purchasing this year's model than last year's model.

I’m looking to jump from my M1 Air to the new 14” MBP and I don’t think I’m expecting to be disappointed at all.

Looking forward to ports on both sides, more than 1 monitor connection, slightly faster CPU and much faster GPU + that extra inch of screen real estate and resolution.

Anything extra will be like a cherry on top and not at all expected.

good thing nobody's forcing them to upgrade if the spec-change compared to last year's model isn't big enough...

and if anyone is dissapointed by the first m1 mbp/a they have a very wrong perspective of these types of prooducts.

Hi @ all,
want to join this leak-thread:cool:.
Just sold the macbook pro 16 i9 / 64gb / 2Tb / 5500m to buying the new unit (16 ").
Hope in a reasonable-price😄

It wasn't that they would be disappointed by the first set of M1 Macs.. that wasn't the point. What they would be disappointed by is if they bought the first set of M1 Macs, then are expecting the next set to be tons better than theirs, only to find out that it was a minor spec bump. They would be disappointed by the NEW macs coming out this year, not the M1s they already have.

maybe i'm reading too much into this, but also for quite some time now the apple store in my country doesn't have 16gb/512gb-configured mbp/a in stock. looking at the remaining 4-thunderbolt models the 16/512 config is the base model (much like 8/256 is for the mbp/a). maybe due to the all the shortages they started moving resources for 16/512 configs to the new 14"/16" models?

probably because people who are sick of the 15" trouble makers bought the cheapest available 16"s
