What they would be disappointed by is if they bought the first set of M1 Macs, then are expecting the next set to be tons better than theirs, only to find out that it was a minor spec bump. They would be disappointed by the NEW macs coming out this year, not the M1s they already have.
All reports and rumors so far point to the M1X chip being an absolute monster. I haven't seen a single rumor or leaked report to the contrary. That's not to say it's true, but there is nothing pointing to just a minor spec bump so far. If I were a betting man (and I am!) I would certainly put money on it being significantly better than the M1. If it has double the performance cores and quadruple the graphics cores it's going to smoke just about everything out there.

Plus there are so many other things that will go into this computer to make it fresh. I can't see any disappointment apart from the MiniLED screen. Let's hope that isn't going to be an issue.

I have a number of eager video editors who want a desktop + laptop, but I told them to wait until the announcement. If it stays like the MBA-13MBP-iMac24, so we get the same chip in MBP14-MBP16-iMac30, then there is no need for a desktop machine for performance reasons. I love disrupting technology like that and I'm hoping these rumours turn out to be true. I'll probably get one for myself as well.

Sounds like you need the PowerBook with the Duo Dock! 😁

Interestingly the 16" MacBook Pro shipping times have slipped to mid-October. All 13" MacBook Pro models are available immediately.

Not necessarily - can’t always make that connection. It’s definitely noteworthy that there’s such a delay in availability, though.
Yeah in this case it could easily be either the component shortages, Apple ramping down production ahead of discontinuation, or (likely) a little of both? If they’re struggling for parts and that’s restricting supply, Apple might not think it’s worth the trouble to fix that at this late stage, if the announcement is set for next month (which hopefully it finally is! 🤞🏻)

That makes perfect sense to me. I don't believe the 14" will replace the current 13", so there's no reason for the 13" shipping times to be slipping.

I just sold my 2016 MacBook Pro, fingers crossed there will be little issues & the rumours hold up given the wait.

I also guess the rumours of a MacBook Pro with a Oled screen next year have been squashed.

With the recent rumours that Apple will not be signing up for Samsung’s Oled display.

I'd like to see a 13/14 inch Macbook Pro that can drive two 5k displays at full resolution and 60 Hz. Currently this seems to be only possible with the Intel MBP 16" versions.

"All reports and rumors so far point to the M1X chip being an absolute monster."

What does that mean, exactly?

Finally October!! First milestone will be October 5th (just 4 days away today) as a possible invite date for an event on October 12th. The 12th would be somewhat early in the month (I’m betting on the 19th or 26th).

The fact that Mac OS betas are already showing signs of the new MacBooks is a good sign that we are VERY close. The new screen resolutions also show that the 16” will have a slightly different aspect ratio than the 14” (both of which are moving away from 16:10).

This further supports the theory that the 16” will once again be it’s own class of machine and not just a larger version of the 14”. If that’s the case, then we can expect the larger Jade-C Die M1X variant standard and exclusive to the 16” (although in a binned version for the base model with probably 24 GPU cores). The 14” will most likely stick with Jade-C Chop with a binned 12 core GPU at base and the ability to upgrade to the full 16 cores.

I think sometimes people forget there are 2 versions of the M1X.

How so?

The m1x may have enough video rez to handle the diff between the 14 and 16.??
It certainly would. The M1 (7 or 8 core) is capable of driving a 6K monitor for anything except demanding games. An Intel integrated GPU from years ago can drive a 4K monitor for non-gaming tasks no problem. [EDIT: For comparison, rumoured 16" resolution is less than 4K, no MBP has ever had a 4K screen]

But, the bigger MBP has always been more powerful than the smaller one. Always had more cores (up to 8, whereas 13" never had more than 4), always had a discrete GPU, where the 13" has always been limited to integrated.

The 16" is bigger than the 14" (no surprise). The 16" can dissipate more heat because of that. Whether the difference in chassis TDP capability is really that large, I don't know (I doubt it), but there's like a full decade or more of precedence for the bigger MBP to be significantly more powerful than the smaller one.
