Again dont have high hopes for release date soon for these mbp..
The event yes, but the release date can be even in November

What is the guess on the wait for BTO? Last year I waited about 6-7 weeks for a M1 MBA, but that's because I didn't order straight away.
What's the usual wait time on BTO if you order as soon as it goes live? I'm guessing 2 weeks...
I think most people will be happy with an event, then at LEAST we know the next gen MBP's exist.Again dont have high hopes for release date soon for these mbp..

Yep seeing the new design, teasing the performance and pouring over what spec combos are available for a few weeks will be almost as cathartic as getting one in your hands 😂I think most people will be happy with an event, then at LEAST we know the next gen MBP's exist.
I think they should be available quite soon after announcement going by the increasing scarcity of 16" models, not just at Apple but third party places are out or very low on stock too. Interestingly the 13" Intel model is still widely available... maybe that means the 14" will launch later, or that the Intel 13" will stay on sale (which would be a bit weird).Again dont have high hopes for release date soon for these mbp..

I have enough 16" available at Best Buy Chicago and one at Apple Store Chicago...I think they should be available quite soon after announcement going by the increasing scarcity of 16" models, not just at Apple but third party places are out or very low on stock too. I’m sure some places will have stock right up until launch day (Amazon also still have stock) but I think at this point it’s undeniable supply is getting tighter for the 16” in particular. On its own that could be down to component shortages but there’s other clues like the leaked resolutions. We know they’ve been in production for a few weeks now (since early Aug) so why wait to November for no particular reason?I have enough 16" available at Best Buy Chicago and one at Apple Store Chicago...
Go with the 16/1tb we don’t know when or if the new one will bee released this year evenHello guys, I'm still using MBP 2020 I5 16/256gb and have possibility to replace it to m1 16/1TB with no extra charge by me side. Is it better to wait a few months for the latest model?

Haha... There could be invites sent out this Tuesday for a digital event at Apple next week to announce the new machines! They could then be released this month! At this point it's looking extremely likely we'll get new kit this year.
Of course, if TranceX only wants or needs a 13inch and it sounds like they can get one for free (?? Not sure I understand the money side of the situation), then that is the reason to go for the deal. Guessing they may not be released until next year based on zero intel isn't a good reason when all the rumors point to an event in October and a release date this year.
If TranceX really wants to get new kit, but this offer has tempted them, then that's a tough choice. Does TranceX need a bigger screen etc? We don't really know enough info.
I'd recommend TranceX to wait at the very least until Tuesday this week to see if there is any movement at the station.

For iPhones it's usually 3 months between production kicking off and the announcement (June-September) but iPhones are an order of magnitude bigger operation. 2 months between an early August start of production date and an early-mid October announcement seems about right for MBPs. Especially given there could be a few weeks after announcement before they start shipping, which would make it comparable to 3 months between iPhones starting production and shipping a week or so after announcing. I can't find any more precise info for the M1 MBA/MBP, but Ming Chi Kuo believed they went into production in Q4 2020 (So presumably around the start of October) before being launched on November 10, and available on the 17th. So looks like they turned those around in under 2 months.Start of mass production is usually many weeks before availability. Nothing’s really surprising here. Stock levels have to be built up for a launch to cover initial stock for online orders, the local stores, and retail partners. That stock needs to be distributed to the various regions. In normal circumstances, 4-6 weeks of sea freight for the first palettes worth of goods is pretty reasonable. Due to the pandemic, ports have been snarled, containers are hard to get a hold of, and even air freight can get ugly. And that assumes issues aren’t uncovered during mass production ramp up (hint: there usually is something).
Apple does have a few tricks that let them announce products a little closer to start of mass production, such as drop shipping online orders from the factory until manufacturing has caught up. That doesn’t mean they can go ahead without any retail presence at all, especially since 3rd parties like Best Buy and Amazon may rethink their stance on selling Apple products if they start getting cut out of launch supplies.
Logistics for a worldwide launch like this requires good planning and coordination. Mass production has to be in good swing without hiccups, more supplies have to be flowing in to keep the factories fed, stock has to be in place to reach retail partners at the right time, etc. This is all pretty standard lead times on a product like this, IMO.
You’re absolutely right.A thought crossed my mind about the possibility of invites being sent tomorrow. I'm not sure that's going to happen. Tuesday, October 5th is a very solemn & sacred day at Apple. It marks the 10th anniversary of Steve Jobs' passing. I don't think Apple would distract on the solemnity of the day with a product invite — or would they? Apple's homepage will probably pay tribute to Steve & so I'm leaning towards no invites tomorrow.
Agreed. As much as I would love to see invites going out tomorrow, I don’t think that will be the case. Although on the flip side, they could make the invite part of his tribute. They may remember him like those coffin dancers… No offense.A thought crossed my mind about the possibility of invites being sent tomorrow. I'm not sure that's going to happen. Sure, the event invite for October 12th may come on Wednesday this week.Weds. or Fri.
I bet my Diet Pepsi on it.
Maybe it could be thought of as a certain type of celebration of his legacy, though? Steve Jobs certainly loved a big product reveal, and I could imagine them somehow tying the "original Mac that changed computing forever" to "the next era, starting today" etc. You know how they do.A thought crossed my mind about the possibility of invites being sent tomorrow. Both13" and 16" availability has shifted to Oct 12.
This always happens in the weeks leading up to a new release. They need to sell down their supply of manufactured 16” Intel MBPs before announcing the new generation, or else they run the risk of having a boatload of unsellable old MBPs, which would be bad for their bottom line… oh, and the environment, too! It’s all for the environmentIn the UK there's still lots of 13" Intel machines available for pickup and next-day delivery, but the 16s are still on a two week delivery time and there's none available instore now.
I still think its amazing Apple doesn't get more attention from the media for only having one 15/16" model available in their lineup. Not to mention how long it has gone without an update when we all know its living on borrowed time. And now you can't buy one at all?
