iMac 27-inch 2.8GHz Quad-Core i7 4GB SDRAM + 4GB self-installed... I've been waiting for this for more than a year, almost loosing hope for a decent iMac upgrade but this certainly was THE update I was waiting for and my old PC is already shaking and sweating, it knows it's the last of it's kind ever to enter my home! :) Being a designer and using Macs for more than 10 years at work but never having one at home this certainly is a big move for me. Ordered it on the weekend and now I just need to wait for it to ship, easy right???...

This will be my first "at home mac too. my last mac I worked on at work was a IICi 20 years ago. Yes, Im old. Been a PC guy since. Recently ordered a 24" just before the new mac update thinking that the new release would not be all that great. One month later my order was cancelled a day after the new release.. THANK GOD I must add as the new release was much better than i thought but not quite as good as it easily could have been. Now I have a 2.8 quad i7 on order and will have to wait yet another month "plus" to actually get it in my hands. This wait time is killing me.......2.5 months from the day I made the decision to go mac. My PC has already made friends with the hammer I placed beside it a few weeks ago. Good things come to those who wait........;)

In the meantime, someone locate that great Star Trek Wallpaper on the Apple site.... Keep your mind off the speculation....

It's not a cap from the movie, nor is it an official wallpaper. I'm guessing it's a custom render just for Apple that we're never gonna see :( Or at least a piece of concept art we're never going to get our hands on :(

I want it too.... So so bad :(

i found a present for you ;)

the only problem is, its an actual screen shot from the movie! (thus the bad quality). i shall try to find a good quality copy for you fans

edit: no luck finding it, sorry guys.

I cashed out some stock to purchase the i7 model with 4 GB of ram and 2 TB of HD. I now have the money but here is my de lima, I am moving from florida to North Carolina on Nov 8th. I already have the rental house paperwork signed but wont have the keys until the 8th. i want to go ahead and order my mac with the new address but if it shipped early I may be in trouble.

Do you think its safe?

Has anyone in the UK noticed that Apple have changed their online order? I keep checking my order status and they keep cancelling my Apple Remote then adding it back to the order.

Also the shipping date is all over the place and goes between deliver by Nov 5th/6th and to Shipping in Nov? I also had it show recently that shipping was 3-5 days? (its a 27" i7 with 2TB)

My order was placed via the HE online store a few minutes after the new imacs were launched.

Today I got a "Thanks for purchasing your Mac" email that invites me to a free weekly workshop at the apple retail stores... never had this before....

You could ask Apple to have the delivery company hold the item for pickup at the NC destination depot. I know Fedex, UPS and DHL will do this. That way, you can pick it up yourself should it be delivered too soon.

Just wondering why not get the i7? Im wondering if I should send mine back (i haven't had it a month...) and get the new one... 9400m sucks... Still suprised they didnt drop it completely from the iMac line.

Well, considering the other options (i.e. Intel GMA), the 9400m is pretty damn awesome. It outperforms by (obv. outdated) NVidia 6610XL which way outperformed the GMA X3100. So, there. I'm really glad they haven't dropped it. If you want the better graphics, get the higher end iMac/MacBook Pro.

Not sure if this is related but when I ordered through the Apple HE store (by phone) the guy advised me not to order the Apple Remote as these were out of stock for the next four weeks and he reckoned it could delay the whole order waiting for them to come back on stock? Took his advice as I work close to Apple Store on Regent Street so no great shakes popping in and picking one up.

Are you able to cancel the remote from your online order yourself? or would I need to cancel the whole order?

I am not convinced anyone at the online stores really know whats going on? I just had an online chat and she said that the remotes were not in stock for 2 to four weeks. But she was not sure if this applied to orders with Macs shipped from China...

I ordered the 2.8quad, the remote & Applecare on 22 October 2009 by phone from the educational discount people & nothing has changed. Still have 'Estimated shipping November' unfortunately.
Although perhaps fortunately given the problems some are having. I ordered an MBP hot off the production line (Feb 2009) & had stacks of problems with it going into sleep mode on starting. It is OK now after TWO replacement logic boards & a new hard disk! If there's anything wrong with my new IMac I'll return it immediately-no messing about this time round. However, perhaps it will be perfect?

Whilst I have always found them helpful I would probably veer towards the above statement. The same guy also seemed to interpret "Ships November" as the 1st November - I took this with a large pinch of salt.

Has anybody got an update on shipping. My order still says "Ships November". I got just customized the processor. I want this computer so bad.

NO. Wait a couple days.

LOL

Nothing in life is perfect! But I would like to think its as near as damn it. I had a dodgy screen on my Feb 09 MBP, but they just did a new order and it was all sorted.

I would in an ideal world like to know a date tho, esp as they keep renewing the pre-authorisation on my card for almost £2k until the take final payment

I'm assuming anything before November 20th is a bonus and delivery between 20th - 30th November a more realistic expectation.

In the US, Apple ships items separately, so there is no delay in shipment of your Quad iMac even if you order the remote. For instance, my order page shows the new remote will ship Nov. 18, but the iMac states "shipping November."

my experience has been the complete opposite. When i get packages with estimated dates where I KNOW i wont be able to sign for it, i have called them and they said that they HAVE to at least make 1 attempt before holding it.

Really annoying and really DUMB. This goes for UPS and FEDEX.

Just spoke to Apple Canada and got November 13th.

Mark was kind enough to elaborate they have not updated the online orders shipping status because of the supply constraints.

What ever that means,

4850's ?

iMac in general; more people ordered than predicted......

Thought I would let you all know.

I got a UPS notification this morning on my i5 order. Hooray!

Then I looked more closely, and they're shipping me my applecare. How can you ship me a warranty for a product I don't yet have?
