Easy.

AppleCare does not start till you register it.

So, you have the box and information to register
with Apple for the care. Once you get your i5
that's exactly what you should do.

Noticed Amazon now has the i5 listed for presale for around $1972.

Noticed and ordered on Monday. That makes Amazon cheaper than Apple, even with my government discount. Being a member Amazon Prime makes it even better, since I got overnight shipping for $3. Now my only concern is that they get them near in time to the Apple Store, otherwise I'll just go up to the mall and buy one there.

Ordered my i7 yesterday. AppleCare has already shipped (so unsurprised) but the iMac is still showing "November" and the remote shows shipping November 25.

I paid for expedited shipping so I'm hoping that with any luck, I'll get my 27" iMac in time for my 27th birthday (November 12).

I absolutely cannot wait.

I got a UPS notification this morning on my i5 order. Hooray!

Then I looked more closely, and they're shipping me my applecare. How can you ship me a warranty for a product I don't yet have?

I was wondering about this myself. I only hope they don't take the position that the three years starts before you get the hardware!

Jim,

AppleCare comes as a box and a phone number.

You call Apple and register your new product.

Your AppleCare begins the day you register
the product -- not the day you receive AppleCare.

I don't know about the telephone option (it's entirely possible), but with the two laptops I've bought with AppleCare, you register it online and use a code that is included in the box. That's when it starts. Sort of like .mac is.

Foxer,

I think you have both Internet and phone
options as some people have one, the other
of both.

Been a while since I registered anything with
AppleCare but I do remember back in 2007 I
did it with a phone call and just gave them
the code that came in the box.

Thanks guys.

The last AppleCare I bought was for my iPhone 3G, which was bought in a store with the phone (some good it did me there :().

In this case, the iMac and AppleCare are also on the same receipt along with the Time Capsule, so hopefully they'll all be auto-linked, though I'll go online to register anyway to make sure the date of purchase is the date I get it rather than the date on the receipt.

I'm sure I'm gonna get the Quad Core iMac, Core i7.
Just wondered. Would this be enough for full HD video editing, graphic designing, some music recording/editing.

Absolutely cannot wait! The screen is just absolutely beautiful.

Just spoke to Apple Canada and got November 13th.

Mark was kind enough to elaborate they have not updated the online orders shipping status because of the supply constraints.

What ever that means,

4850's ?

iMac in general; more people ordered than predicted......

Thought I would let you all know.

I dont think it would be a over-demand issue - as as far as i know November was the shipping date since zero-hour - so it must be a known constraint.

Of course that doesn't stop 'November' being slipped to (late)'November' - if they run out of aluminium, but still :p

maybe they just have to leave a full spec iMac running for a month to see if it catches fire :D - that would be a much more fun reason :D

Yeah this machine should do the trick! ;) For graphic design & music editing this will have plenty of horse power and for video editing, well Full HD is not rendering in real time even on the latest Mac PROs so this will be powerful enough for very decent editing with a fluid workflow but just don't expect things to happen in real time...

Yeah. Thanks! I'll be purchasing this one. Do you think it would be better to upgrade manually and buy a 3rd party RAM for this? or buy an 8GB RAM right off from the site.

most of the programs you listed are not multi-core applications, so i dont know if you would benefit from quad core..

upgrade 3rd party, you can buy 2x2GB sticks from crucial for around $100. that gives you 8GB RAM total! all for $100!

So, pretty much with an i7 and 8GB or ram
I can render/burn a DVD in iDVD while surfing
the net and not have any lag?

Just askin' cause I can do this on my 2007
Mac Pro (8 Gigs Ram) without breakin' a sweat.

Of course wait and buy it from Crucial or Newegg. Wouldn't cost you more than ~$80 to get 4gb extra from Newegg since the iMac comes with 4gb. Apple wants to charge you $200. It is literally a 3 min job to add the RAM.

even i can do that on my CoreDuo MBP :p

a little bit of sweat is broken though (ok alot)

That's pretty lame, the economy bit that is. It's still way cheaper than going through Apple though.

always has been. they add a nice markup to it, a lot of people pay it because they think their warranty will be voided (which ISNT the case).

i will purchase from cruicial, its about $120Aus all up i think. hopefully the Aus dollar gets higher then the US dollar there for a bit too :D:D

Always have, always will. They have gotten a bit better though.

The US Dollar isn't worth much, so it might happen :p
