Yes, it has gone up. I bought the same memory awhile back for $52.99 w/ free shipping.

Memory is a commodity so it depends on whatever the price levels are in Asia (it's a supply/demand thing). You'll always see prices fluctuate, but what I'm planning on doing is sticking with my 4GB of RAM until the prices return to say, July or August levels and then I'll do the DIY upgrade to 8 GB. I can go to 12 or 16 in 2010 or 2011.

Is apple the only place? I was hoping to avoid paying taxes for it.

Some online places will sell the i7. However if you run into issues, their return policies aren't as good as Apple's. Read their return policies carefully.

Well, there is a banner ad across the bottom of the page for a reseller that highlights the tax-free nature of thier business. I clicked through and they are offering the I7 for order. So...

(Disclaimer: I'm not advocating anything, just pointing out that a possible solution is right in front of you.)

Interesting... :D

Sweetwater.com has now changed their status from saying they would ship out within a day or two...

to

We've confirmed this item will ship soon from Apple and should arrive in our warehouse the week of 11/08. Go ahead, place your order now. We will ship it immediately, the very same day we receive it from Apple.

Hopefully we all see ours ship out from Apple by the 8th. That would be great!

Order Status

So on my Apple Order Status page, it now shows three categories - the iMac and new remote are in the "Not yet shipped" category, the new Time Capsule is in the "Shipped" category with a tracking no., and the AppleCare order is in a category labeled "Complete."

There was nothing shipped for AppleCare - will the current TechTool diagnostic utility, etc. be shipped with the iMac? (This is the first time I've mail ordered a BTO rather than buying in the store.)

is it just me or did this just change: try making a BTO 27" with dual core then upgrade the graphics card... i read that it changed to november when you did this, but now it says 4-6 weeks instead...

looks like it's going to be a late november ship for the 4850 cards...

EDIT: This only happens in the Australian education store, sorry....

hmm 4-6 weeks. i GUESS i can wait that long. my uni exams will be finished by then so it will be a nice present :D

(australian getting the edu discount btw) :D

AppleCare apparently just comes tied to the computer now. Ridiculous that they bill you for AppleCare right away when you don't even have the darn machine yet, but oh well.

Your Time Capsule shipped, the remote and comp haven't.

However, something strange happened with my order today:

I logged into my bank account, saw a new charge from apple....$20.33?

Confused at first, then figured out it could only be the remote (with tax). I check my order status and the remote now says:

Prepared for Shipment
APPLE REMOTE-USA
Ships: Nov 18
Delivers: Nov 18

And of course, my i7 still has vague "Ships: November".

Did this weird remote business happen to anyone else today?

Also, if Apple ships me the remote for my iMac before I get the actual iMac, my brain might explode from frustration.

Moreover, memory is a commodity which manufacturers have, in the past, conspired to keep artificially scarce to maintain high prices (and thus higher profits). I don't know that there's good reason to believe this practice has completely ended. :(

Sounds like the diamond business to me.

Sniff...sniff.....Waagggh....

I've seen comment like this in several threads now. You ordered a remote and AppleCare...and now your upset because Apple is shipping them to you as soon as they are available? Get over it...

I picked up mine today from expercom.com, they had a amazing deal. I couldn't refuse.

This is what I ordered

27" iMac 2.8 Quad
8 GB Ram
2TB Drive
with Apple Care

for 2605$ shipped, no tax, 17$ Ground Shipping

Received My Shipping Notice Tonight!!!

...for the remote ;)

It was sent via Fed Ex from China. Scheduled to arrive on 11/4.

So now I've received Apple Care, the remote will be here next week, and the iMac i7 *sometime after next week*

It's okay guys. I know we are all anxious for the quads to start shipping. Just consider this time as being perfect to get your house in order, spend time with the family, watch the trees change color, and get your desk ready for the new beast. We will all make it, I promise. ;)

No, I expect them to ship it as soon as they are available.

I'm frustrated that I have been billed for a 3 year warranty for a machine THAT I'M NOT USING RIGHT NOW AND WON'T BE TIL NEXT MONTH.

And I WILL be frustrated if I receive an ACCESSORY for my iMac that I can't even use until the iMac arrives. Feel me?

Don't take this the wrong way, but you could just as easily wait until they're officially shipping. If you don't like the presale process don't get involved. I'm not trying to antagonize, but anybody who preorders makes the call. All that being said I'm looking forward to getting one of my own soon via presale or otherwise.

We all interpret anticipation differently. Quad-core iMac! Very exciting.
