Waiting for 27" Quad to SHIP thread

Waiting would have been sensible, however, my ancient Pentium 4 is about spent. It will surely just stop altogether any day. I'll be ecstatic to finally be rid of it.
wow I actually hope they don't ship until Nov 6th as I took a huge gamble and ordered mine for my new house I am renting in another state. Problem is I don't move in until the 8th. I would hate for it to arrive before I did and walk away.
As mentioned previously, there are a couple of things you can do:
1) call Apple and ask them to just ship to the local UPS/FedEx hub and then you can pick it up when you (or the machine) arrives.
2) call Apple and ask them not to ship it until 7 Nov.
3) cancel your order and then place it again after you get there (or after the initial bugs are worked out).

I'm counting on that myself. Come tomorrow, Nov 1st, Apple has to update the "Shipping in November" right? Would love to see it updated to "Shipping in 3 -5 business days" but I suspect we'll see "Shipping in 2 -3 weeks."
"Shipping in 3-5 business days" would surely sound good. There's probably a better chance of it being later than sooner.

I wonder if it's the same for the i7 models? People seem to have mixed results when asking Apple about both quad core models, so I'm not going to hold my breath. It would be fantastic if it actually happens though.

online store but could not find it.

And folks, The Samurai is as real and as reliable as it gets. Provided that the sales chat associate was not making this up, the quad-core iMacs are definitely on their way.

Oh, good...I'm not the only one checking this 10 times a day. My chat rep said "November. No specific dates yet." I liked the first week of November response better.

I don't usually believe sales staff cause they are usually in the same position as us. But in this instance, he didn't say "erm, maybe or i think"... the guy just gave a straight answer... "first week of nov".
Again, it could totally be horse dunk... but I have every reason to trust the guy
I shouldn't have a reason to doubt Apple, as this is the first Mac I have purchased. I wonder why they didn't just say "ships in 2-3 weeks" for the people that ordered right when they were announced. I'll still plan on the end of the month so I won't be let down by an online chat rep that only has access to the same info we have.
Thanks Samurai! My birthday is the 12th (this was my 27th birthday gift to myself -- though it's also going to make a nice write-off) and I'm totally hoping I get it by then. If I don't, obviously I'll live, but I haven't been this excited about a purchase in years.

Looks like to me there is very limited information
available through these reps and that the one
may not be reliable (with NO disrespect intended
for the member/poster that had the chat).
All I am saying is go ahead and be optimistic
but something tells me we may be waiting at
least another two weeks yet for these to ship.
I hope I am proved wrong.

Your bang on mate - totally agree. Sales staff are clueless like us for the most - but that specific person (Ronnie) gave me a precise time frame straight up. He could be right or he could be wrong. As soon as that chat ended, I spoke to a different rep who said 'come back on Monday for an update'. Two different stories, but yet similar in nature - I think its going down in the next week... at least those who ordered first, will see them shipping in the next few days.
Again, its my thoughts after analysing the situation.
All i'm going to say is - big Ronnie IS the man.
Ronni can be as awesome as you think but I wouldn't put money on it. While it would be awesome for it to ship sooner than later, I wouldn't get my hopes up. Apple will ship when they are ready. If they would ship first week of Nov. they would have said 2-3 weeks originally. The store manager a my local store (largest and busiest in the region) checked his inventory update yesterday for me and it is still listed as Nov.
