Very anxious to get my hand on this baby as well... ordered the i7 version a week ago and every day the wait is getting harder and harder and in true Apple style... no one knows anything or they're not telling us but there's plenty of rumors to make up for it! ;) Anyway, my think they were just waiting for those Radeon cards in the first place but now that there's all those little problems with the 27" and all seem to be related to the graphics system, my guess is the wait is for the Snow leopard build 10.6.2 to get ready...

This is getting crazy. If Apple doesn't update the shipping status tomorrow, I'm going to plant a big stink bomb in their lobby.

Coming from a 2.16GHz iMac, this new Mac is going to be 4-5X faster. Can't wait. Literally.

pretty much coming from the same situation as you, 2.16GHz MBP. torture isnt it!! im thinking more like 10x faster haha.

It's like waiting for Xmas only you don't know when Xmas is...

Well, today is Nov 1, so now there are only 29 days left in the month.... So my prediction is that they will ship within the next 29 days..... Heard this directly from my sources at :apple:

Precisely. It's worse than waiting for Xmas. I never have a problem waiting for Christmas. This, on the other hand, I do. I like to know exactly when I will have the device that I spend 90% of my waking hours with. I can't tell you how much frustration I've had in waiting for the beach ball with my current iMac. Chances are good I'll be at least 25% more productive with the new iMac. Over the last two years, I've had to have logged at least 5 to 10 hours just sitting in my chair WAITING for my computer to go faster.

I'm hoping it feels like it -- that's why I twisted my arm and am waiting for the quad-core! In reality though, should be about 4 or 5x faster since it's 2x faster than the 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo model and the 3.06GHz is probably about 2x faster than the 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo. Is that right? Someone check my math.

sorry, i am referring to a CoreDuo computer, geekbench for my computer is 2495. latest iMac 3.06GHz is 4297. i guess you were right eh :p

it will feel 100x faster to us though :D:D

I cant wait for mine to arrive as well. However, it is no use feeling, being, acting or performing faster to me when it is not on my desk....

I do hope Apple hurries up and publishes a reasonably precise shipping date / range of dates. After all, it's the not knowing that's killing me.

Waiting

I will be 78 in January and if you don't think I am anxious to get this Quad 17 on my desk, you don't understand reality...

Come on Apple... time is a wasting....:D

:apple: ROCKS!

Me too! Bonus points for mine having a bad logic board/graphics card where I get crazy graphical aberrations followed by beachballing that can only be fixed buy on/off.

I have to turn on/off about 20+ times a day. No lie. (begs Apple)

Holy crap! I have the exact same issue. My temporary work around was to install the fan control and I doubled the fan speeds. Worked WONDERS! No longer had to restart 10 times a day, but it still freezes up from time to time.

I ordered an i7 from MacMall last night and received a call from them this morning to confirm the transaction and to try to sell me a warrantly (which I declined). While I had him on the phone I asked about an estimated ship date. He said they received an update from Apple this week and I should expect shipment around Nov. 16. I'm not sure how much faith I have in the estimate but I thought I would share anyway.

I've never ordered from MacMall, hopefully I don't regret it but $2115 shipped for the i7 if a good price.

Well, I'm 87. And my doc says I'm in miserable shape. I tell him "that's why I need a quad Apple - the faster the better, I have so little time left on earth". He goes "if you wait on that computer another month, you'll lose more time than you gain by the speed from the quad". I say "Would it help if I went with the i7 instead of the i5?". He goes "in your case, you'd need a supercomputer that's faster than light, so you can go back in time". Sigh. Plus, I had to pay the bastard for his advice and sh|tty attitude. So you see, waiting is hard for everybody, but harder for some of us.

Delayed Shipping

I just noticed, yesterday the 27" core2duo said 24 hours shipping and today it says 3-5 days. Maybe Apple is investigating the much hyped problems?

Retail Store Employees

I walked in the Apple Retail Store in Leawood, KS yesterday w/my wife & asked an associate about the new 27" Quad-cores and when they would get them in. The guy just looks at me a little mystified and then mumbles something about the Mac Pro's.... I clarify that I'm talking about the new iMacs, and seemingly being energized that I have now mentioned something that he might know something about he tries to sell me one of the dual core iMacs.

*sigh*

I gotta quit going into the Apple brick & mortars--I've been disappointed too many times.

BTW, I also started a chat this morning with an associate in the Apple online store, but was quickly told that they didn't know anything and to keep checking back. Oh well.

wmt

Heh, same here. Don't get me wrong, the people are ALWAYS very nice and the Genius Bar rocks (replaced my MacBook's hard drive while I waited a few months back -- talk about service!), but it's almost a given that I'm going to know as much if not more about the products as the sales staff.

My fiance went in last week to look at the new Magic Mice and got the same kind of "huh?" response when he asked about the shipping status on the i5/i7s.

The Australian forums have had reports from people with authorized dealer connections as saying the first week of November date (and shipping by the 8th) for the i5s practically since the new stuff was announced, so that's just sort of what I'm thinking, at least as far as the i5s go.

The only thing Apple told me when I called last week was that the video cards were the reason for the delay and to order now so that I could be up in the queue as high as possible.

All the waiting is just like Christmas. Although I wish I knew a date -- whether it be further off than I want or not -- I'll admit that this only increases the excitement and will inevitably make the arrival that much better.

Yeah!!

I just spoke to an Apple representative to make a change to my order ( keyboard) and asked him when my order should be shipped and he told me he have heard about nov 3rd. Bestbuy canada and futureshop canada show nov 3rd as the shipping date so lets be positive and pray. Its been three weels i sold my computer and i'm in need of it right now...

Sorry if my english is bad

My wife has a photography expo on the 14th. All I want Apple to do is to let me know if we will have it by then so we can plan ahead. It would be great to use as a display during the expo. A date is all I need. There is more suspense in not knowing than actually waiting.
