Thanks, I almost bought the 24-inch in June, but decided to wait for the next model release. I am so very glad that I waited. The quad 27-inch exceeded my expectations.

I gave the Core 2 Duo 27s a test drive at my local Apple Store over the weekend. The display is impressive indeed. I have big hands and I liked the Mighty Mouse. The little finger side of my hand and wrist were able to rest on the table surface with my middle and index finger over the mouse. It felt quite comfortable. The person testing the machine beside me was complaining about the mouse's wire and said he wouldn't use it because it wasn't wireless. I told him the computer comes with a wireless mouse but these are secured to the table to stop thieves. I don't think he believed me.

I'm ordering the 27" i5 with 4GB RAM and the 2GB HD. Money is not the issue for me, but I don't like throwing money around either.

I understand wanting to save a few bucks, but don't you think a 2 GB hard drive is a little small? I mean my gosh, the iPod shuffle can hold more than that.

:p
(just teasing ya)

"We have a great relationship with Apple and we'll receive this item as soon or sooner than anyone else in the country.?

Don't you think Apple will send then out to the people that purchased from the Apple Online Store first?

funny stuff

just chiming in.

11/8/09 seems like a good date to release them. i can wait that long :p

will wait a week or so to read benchmarks/temperatures/possible problems.

core i7 here i come!

ha - i noticed that as well. also in regards to not needing more than 4gb of memory - i would agree with you if you aren't running parallels, but if you are dedicating 4gb ram to each OS would be mighty nice. nice thing is you have room to grow.

I'm with you. I already have the i7 in the shopping cart and I will be holding my left finger back from clicking the button for a week or two, but it will be hard. I can't wait to get my hands on this machine!

oh dont worry i have the same problem! there are three issues that i am worried about.
1. screen flickering (as identified in this thread). dont worry though, it only happens when you turn the brightness right down, put the computer to sleep, then turn it back on and leave it on the lowest brightness... still annoying though.
2. overheating. i doubt this will be an issue. i have seen the dismantle from ifixit and the heatsyncs are massive now!
3. benchmarks. i want to see how beneficial the i7 is over the i5, tests show a nice increase, somewhere around 5%-10%. i can justify the extra costs for that, but hopefully SL can give the HT in the i7 some nice extra increases :)

dont know if this will help anybody here but:

I called the apple store in NYC today and asked if they were going to get the quad cores in soon or if they had them already, and the employee said they plan on getting them in next week. And he said from what he knows about the apple store they should be shipping them at the same time, at the latest the 2nd week of november, so....ughhhh...

gotta stick it out with my old g4 powerbook for just a few more weeks.

Same! :p
My one and only computer has been my PowerBook.
Its been great, apart from a broken superdrive and a couple of broken power adaptors, but it's been slowing up recently...I think it can sense what's coming.
Although I'll still be using the laptop for MS Word during class, but as soon as I get home it'll be the 27" :D

yup same here mate with the laptop for Word at uni (except with an original CD MBP lol).

literally cannot wait!!! its going to be awsome!

also; can anybody help me out with my RAM question?

I, too, placed an order on 10/20/09 for a 27" quad: 2.8 GHz, 8GB, 2 TB.

I am wondering if anyone is getting cold feet, due to some of the negative reports regarding slowness and display issues (dead pixels and blotchiness)?

I totally have cold feet, I mean I actually went and logged into the My Account section and looked at the cancel button for a few seconds :-S

I am pretty worried about the screen issues.

I'm getting extremely cold feet, the wow factor has died down, its becoming more and more apparent that using this as a input from a PS3 / Bluray player wont be possible and I've witnessed the screen flicker first hand. I've also felt the 27" while its been on about 8 hours and it was HOT.

My only concern is, maybe I should use someone other than apple to save on tax.

I'm a little nervous. The screen flickering thing is not a problem for me because I almost never sleep my current iMac (Intel Core Duo, January 06 ;)) and hopefully the memory leak issue will be addressed in a software update before the quad cores get to market.

I'm most worried about having some dust trapped under the glass because I'm anal like that.

Either way, though, there's no way I'm going to even consider cancelling my order. My 1.83 GHz Core Duo and Radeon X1600 (128mb) are just not cutting it these days. Especially for WoW, blah.

I'm still buying but I may cancel my order and reorder in a few days.

1. It will give Apple another 7+ days to figure out any problems.

2. I was so exited to order last week I went through the regular store and didn't take my education discount. ($140 Savings)

Hmm, the screen flicker is actually making me a little more nervous now. Seems like it's happening at full brightness as well. And without relation to the computer sleeping.

Is this issue in ALL 27" iMacs? Or is it limited to just a few?

Hopefully. I called AppleCare for the hell of it and, FWIW, they had no idea what I was talking about (screen flicker). But then, the tech support seems to be last to know (or unwilling to talk) about these kind of problems.

After returning the C2D, I put in an order for the quad core on the hope that the major problems will be ironed out by the time it ships. It's a bit of a gamble.

Sounds like a power supply issue to me.

I have to admit these problems are disturbing, although I wont be cancelling my order just yet I will just keep following these issues and see if they get worse or better, I have faith. :)

Sounds like a power supply issue to me.

That sounds likely since someone already mentioned the power supply area was very hot, if the power supply is a problem now then how bad will it be with a i7 and a 4850 I wonder...

I live in the UK and the lady I spoke to said that the i7s would start shipping November 9th from China. She seemed very exact and even checked some papers...

I ordered a i7, 4GB RAM, 1TB. Nice.

I sure hope this is the case. Seems strange that Apple wouldn't update the orders on the online store with this info, though.

Very nice. Now, does anyone have an estimated time of shipping from China to the United Kingdom?
