Waiting for 27" Quad to SHIP thread

Apple has not charged me the $2700 or so for the 27" iMac I ordered, however, they already charged my card for the AppleCare Package and the 160gig iPod Classic I ordered, they probably charged me for my iPod cuz it shipped right away, should be here on Oct 28, Wednesday.
 
Bit the bullet and decided to join the Mac family. Spent the better part of this week debating between a new iMac and building a new pc rig. Tough decision as a life-long PC user, but the i5 iMac and it's 27" screen won out in the end.
 
On the old 3.06ghz 24" iMac, it was only $50 to upgrade to the 4850.

It is now $150 to upgrade. So I'm thinking it's desktop....

That's because it had the GT130 as the base card. I hope it is the desktop version, but I doubt it highly.

As a life-ling PC user recently gone Mac in the
last three years I promise you that you will never
want to go back to PC after using Mac for a week.

The difference in overall computing experience
between Mac and Windows (outside of gaming) is
like night and day. People make fun of Mac
devotees without understanding the exact reason
why we are so enthusiastic about the platform.

The software yuur iMac and the things you can
do with it will amaze you. You are in for a
life-changing experience, and I am not hyping
any of this beyond what deserves to be hyped.

You are actually 100 percent CORRECT. They delay is not for the quad core, it is definitely for the 4850 card. If you go on the Apple Store, and you select the base (core 2 duo) 27 inch iMac, and then upgrade the video card to the 4850, then the core 2 duo iMac immediately goes from 1-3 days ship time to november. This does not happen if you customize anything else in the iMac.

I'm not 100% sure about that, I ordered a core 2 duo model with the 4850 (apple canada had a glitch on their site where you could get it for free for a few hours ;)) and mine shipped from China last night. When I ordered it said it would ship in 3-5 days and it shipped in 3 ;)

If you go to the US store, and you choose the 4850 in the C2D, you still get the "november" shipping date instead of the normal 24hrs..

We just keep getting more tid bits of a early november release, so I hope I will get my i5 soon.. :)

It's the same thin in Canada but when they were first released it said 3-5 days instead, and that's when I ordered....and my order has already been shipped

Order an other one and see if it ships within a few days as well.. ;)
 
I can't believe they are shipping already. I hope the US starts shipping soon. That YouTube video shows that the video card hasn't delayed Apple that much. I would be curious for him to run some benchmarks to answer if is is the mobile or desktop version.

How long ago did you order it? I heard they take the money out just to make sure you have it then give it back in like 3-5 days. But then charge you once it ships.

That's not true. They can just take the money out a few hours in advance to make sure you have it...
