I was at the SF Apple store today, and the "genius" I talked to couldn't give me a date, but said they hoped to get the quad-cores in "very soon, hopefully next week." This was very surprising to me since everything has the Nov. ship date. Maybe this guy just didn't know what he's talking about?

When I was in the store earlier this week, they told me they would have the 27" in the store on Friday. I was also surprised when they had them on the floor today. They were every bit as awesome as I expected.

I haven't ordered my iMac yet, because, well, I just don't see the point. I'm still torn on the i5 vs. the i7, but if they get the i5 in next week, I think I'll just save some dough and dive in.

*waves arms a bit*

My i7 after a whooooooole day is still saying delivery of 03 Nov, 2009 - 06 Nov, 2009

That's like "next week" - I mean - ... give or take a weekend :p

And is before the 17th ...

To change gears on this conversation slightly...

I have not had the opportunity to see this new
27" iMac in person at the Apple Store so I am
particularly interested in hearing from those who
have.

I said this earlier. I own a Mac Pro. Been using
it with a Dell 30" display. Always wanted the Apple
30" Cinema display but the price is just inane.

My first question is, will I really miss much going
from the 30" Dell to the 27" iMac? I know what
I will gain is far better resolution and that beautiful
glass screen.

Secondly, does this 27" display outshine the
30" Cinema Display?

Where do you find that specific information on the
Apple site?

Just clicked on my confirmation order email number
and all I get is "Ships November"

Is there an area where I can get specific date
information as you have? I assume this is from
Apple online?

27" iMac smokes the 30" ACD. If you don't mind the glossy screen (wasn't noticeable in the Apple store) it's fantastic. The 30" design wise looks antiquated. There really isn't any comparison between the two. The 21.5" iMac looks fantastic as well.

Mine still says "Ships November" as well. The chips aren't coming till mid November, so don't expect anything before then.

I think no as well for the same reason. I was trying to save shipping costs, since Apple doesn't ship to APO addresses (military overseas) by going somewhere else. But since I'm pretty sure I can only get the i7 from Apple, I'm stuck. Of course, I get a military discount from them, so it's still cheaper, even with the extra shipping cost I will have to pay.

MacMall does have the i7 option! Although they mistyped and call it a 2.8 quad-core i5. That's how I missed it earlier.

MacMall does have a couple downsides (for me) though. First, on the customize page, there is not an option to get the wired keyboard with keypad. Not a big deal buster for me, but would rather have that. Also... I don't think they offer a Government Employee (in my case, Military) discount, which Apple does. Just that Apple doesn't ship to APO boxes... darn you Apple! So I'm still sure I'm going the Apple.com to ShipItAPO.com = 60 extra bucks, route.

I've heard a couple people say they would only order from Apple incase something went wrong with the computer. MacMall seems like a reputably company, right? No one should fear buying from them, right?

Unless your getting a stock model I found that macmall, clubmac, mac connection, (all the same company BTW) to be no cheaper than the education discount at apple. Plus you don't have to deal with rebates that you have to send in.

And now I just wait impatiently....

2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x2GB
1TB Serial ATA Drive.
1 TB Time Capsule

I know you shouldn't pay Apple prices for RAM but with my discount I couldn't really be bothered going the Crucial route. Also couldn't afford the 2 x 4GB configuration, but figure that 8GB of RAM in a 4 x 2GB configuration exceeds my foreseeable requirements. 1TB drive as if I'm editing video I'd prefer to punish an external hard drive rather than my system one so was really a no brainer.

One interesting point the sales guy said was not to order the Apple remote as it could potentially delay the whole order as the wait for these was genuinely likely to be 4 weeks - might be hot air but no problem for me as I can pop to an Apple store and pick one up at my leisure.

I can't take it any more first I wait for the mac to come out. now I wait for it to ship in Nov.
27-inch
core i7
1tb drive
8gb of ram

For those of you wondering, Sweetwater has listed that they are receiving the Quad iMacs on the week of November 15th. One can assume that since they are receiving during this time period that everyone else might as well.

I, myself am waiting until someone can clear up this "external input via HDMI/DVI controversy" before I make my purchase; this feature alone is the deciding factor of my purchase. I hope someone can come with a workable and inexpensive solution.

They are a very reputable company.
I order from them all the time.

However, not big ticket items. No way.

This is their refund policy...

Apple products are non-returnable: Apple Computer offers a one year warranty on all new equipment. During the warranty period, you may call 1-800-275-2273 to receive warranty service. Apple will attempt to solve your problem via phone. If they are unable to solve the problem, they will either dispatch a replacement via Airborne Express or will direct you to the closest Apple service center. In most cases, contacting the 800 number is the most expedient manner to obtain warranty service on Apple equipment. If a situation extends beyond Apple or an Apple service center's ability to resolve, please contact your MacMall representative for further guidance.

This is sort of fine and dandy, but if my
$2,000+ computer arrives and it is broke
out of the box or malfunctioning within the
first few weeks, I have the satisfaction of
knowing I can go to the Apple store and
have it taken care of immediately - in some
cases an in-store replacement.

What you're saying is true, but for those of us without any education, military, employee, or other discount...a place like mac connection offers free shipping (same as apple or obviously not an issue if you buy in person), but more importantly no sales tax, a $100 rebate, and a $20 discount on apple care. This will end up saving me close to $350 on my new iMac...twice the price of applecare! So yes, there will be some kind of hassle if something is wrong right out of the box...but it will get addressed and fixed, and $350 is just too much of a price discrepency to ignore...

IMO

Listen, don't blame you a bit.

As I said, great company. Highly reputable.

Just wanted to point out the downside, that's all.

If your new iMac is broken you can take it to an Apple Store and they will fix it regardless where you bought it. It is under warranty, they have no choice.

Shivetya,

I'm not certain that is the case.

I did some research on this forum months ago
about MacMall. I would suggest you do a search
as well.

I asked members here what they thought of
MacMall (though I have been a customer for
years) and was told that if you did not buy it
through Apple directly the store would refer
you to MacMall's return policy.

Even though they don't list this on there sites, Stores like Macmall will allow you to return a "defective product" for 14 days for a full refund. If you buy the product and decide you just don't like it and you want to return it, your out of luck.

November cant come soon enough?

My Mac History

1. IMPATIENTLY waiting for a customer to buy my Quad Core Win PC . CHECK
2. IMPATIENTLY waiting for Rumors of the next iMac update. CHECK
3. IMPATIENTLY waiting for apple to announce new iMac. CHECK
4. IMPATIENTLY waiting for it to be released to the public.......
5. IMPATIENTLY waiting for it to be shipped to me......
6. IMPATIENTLY trying to earn money for next years update........

And the circle continues...

Hurry up Apple!

Well, I just did it! I ordered my first Mac: the 27-inch iMac, i5, 8GB (4x2GB)memory, iWork, and Applecare. I'm excited and a little apprehensive that I spent more on a computer than I ever have.

Now, I'm thinking I'll need a new desk too! Who would want to put that beauty on what I have now?

I've had to suffer using this old Windows homebuilt Pentium 4 for too long. Every time a virus scan, video stream, or pic loads on this old heap, a siren (similar to an ambulance going down the street) starts with an awful distracting ruckus. If I were not afraid of hitting someone on the sidewalk seven floors below, I'd throw the hateful thing out the window. Maybe, I'll just settle for the relief a few hammer blows to the hard drive will surely bring. :D

jddar,

This is your first Mac?

Trust me, you will never go back to a PC.

I was a devoted PC user for nearly 20 years.
When Windows started crashing on me constantly
and I was being rampaged by viruses a friend
recommended I try a Mac. He had recently bought
one and loved it.

However, like most PC users there is this myth
that Macs are more complicated to use and that
they just aren't as good a computing experience
as Windows.

Wow! I believed that myth too until I bought a
Mac Pro back in 2007. Immediately I was finding
my way through OS X. Found it works exactly like
Windows with a few slight changes -- but most of
all BETTER than Windows. No crashes. No viruses.
No registry to deal with. Everything just works.

And the software you get is QUALITY and highly
intuitive. Within days you will be making your
own movies, webpages and organizing your photo
collection like you never did before.

Now I am selling my Mac Pro and waiting on the
27" i7 iMac. It just doesn't get better than this.
