Hello to Mac Forums

Hi, new to forum. Ordered 27 inch i7 iMac today. Store in San Diego, CA had 27 inch i5 in stock! Delivery stated as December 4. I have heard of some tech problems with the new iMacs. Is that over or are there still problems?

oh, the horror

got my i7 today....
opened it up, set it up on my desk, removed the protective sheets from the screen and found the most wonderful computer complete with a SCRATCH ON THE SCREEN.:mad:
so it gets to go back tomorrow. wonder how long i'll have to wait for the new one to arrive...
just my luck

The only problem I am aware of that is still happening since 10.6.2 is the screen flickering issue, but the consensus on a different thread (look it up!) is that it is an ATI software driver issue, and their responsibility to fix, not apple's.

That's almost as bad as getting one DOA.

My first 24" dual 3.06 was bad coming out of the box. Wouldn't boot.

Called AppleCare, and they said to box it up and return it asap, then give them a call as soon as I had the tracking #.
They didn't even wait to receive the old unit back, they shipped the new one as soon as I gave them the tracking number, and I had the new one set up and running within 48hrs.

After a year of heavy use, the new 3.06 went up in flames, almost literally. Smoked the power supply, and a whole slew of internal components after a fan failed.
Called up AppleCare again, and they sent a rep to my place twice attempting to make repairs, then decided to replace the unit. I did upgrade to the i7, and I should receive it Wednesday morning. That's about three weeks after returning the last one.

So based on my experience, you should have your new one in between 48hrs, and three weeks.

I just noticed tonight that today Apple put a $33.00 pending charge on my card today, which is what my 2-3 day shipping charge was for. I'm really hoping that this means they may be getting ready to ship sometime shortly. I'm not holding my breath though. I ordered my i7 on 11/12 at around 10:30pm.

Hey Guys, been following this thread for a few days as i was curious on when my new iMAC would be arriving. I was happy to find an email from Apple today with a tracking number to FEDEX. It was shipped from China this morning (11/16/09) and is estimated to be delivered this thursday the 19th. I ordered the 27" i7 on November 5th. I've always been a PC guy and looking forward to making the switch to the iMAC. I look forward to learning from all of you in the months to come.

Well my order for a 27"/i5/Num-KB/US-Docs&OS
Ordered: Oct 28, 2009 at 09:33 AM PST - Order number W9142xxxx
Estimated Delivery Date: 28 Nov 2009
I guess Apple is sending mine with a junk across the seven seas!!!!
How else can it take 10 days to ship an iMac from China to Switzerland? :(

That's what it means :)

Apple put a $33 hold on my card 4 days before they shipped my computer and charged me the full amount. In two days I will have my i7.

Waaaah, but I don't wanna wait four more days! Haha. Just kidding. I shipped off my Mac Pro last week so I've been using my 13" MBP since then. Don't get me wrong... I love my MBP, but for my main computing I REALLY miss that big ol' screen :D

Now I am waiting my new Apple Remotes to ship. They are taking longer. Guess Apple pulled the Apple Remote workers over to the Quad assembly line :)

AFAIK there are still problems (there's a thread about the problems over on the Apple Support forums). I received my 27" i7 last week and just started to get the display flickering issue today. I did a PRAM reset and so far so good, but I don't remain optimistic that the problem is fixed. I also read posts from two folks who received their i7 iMacs today and they had the display problems right away. It seems to me like it's a very, VERY widespread problem. Hopefully it can be fixed via a software/firmware update but no one yet knows for sure.

naj.......Have you boxed up the unit yet, or called AppleCare?

The screen is very easy to replace, if you have an Apple Store nearby, they may be able to replace it there, rather than send it back, and have to wait.

I haven't seen the quads disassembled yet, but did get to watch while the tech took apart my dual 3.06. Stick a couple of suction cups on the screen, and it pops off, new one goes back on in about ten seconds.
If you request it, and either a store or certified tech is nearby, they may allow you to make repairs there, rather than shipping it back, and having to wait for several more weeks.

Adios Amazon...hello Apple

First post here - woohoo! Been watching this thread since like Page 3. Had an i5 ordered from Amazon since Oct. 23rd, but still with no word from them (called up and spoke to several different customer reps today - all said the same "we don't know yet and can't find out...") decided to say forget Amazon and ordered an i7 from Apple. :D

So Nov 16th order date, Order #W6585xxxx, ships Dec 1st, delivers Dec 4th. We'll see who arrives first...i5 or i7. :p

This will be my first Apple since I went PC back in 1993. Previously owned Apple I, Apple IIGS Woz Edition, Mac Plus, then finally a Powerbook 120...w00t! - excited!

UPDATE: Just found on the Amazon order status page for my i5 order....
"Shipment 1 of 1: The following item will arrive after December 25, 2009.
Not yet shipped
We'll notify you via e-mail when we have an estimated delivery date for this item. It will ship separately. You can cancel at any time."

Order cancelled....buh-bye Amazon, hello Apple for real now.

Normally it would not take that long. Is there some kind of strike at the Chinese airport? Does anyone know?

Edit: I just Googled it. Pudong Airport was where Barrack Obama landed. Maybe his extra security effected normal operations.

Update:
I had another conversation with Apple this afternoon, especially in regards to the fact that i5's are being stocked in stores in the US, and people ordering them after me are receiving them before me.
It took a few times insisting that i needed to know what the truth is, and i bounced to another operator.
Anyone that thinks that the first come first served theory was enacted is sorely mistaken. Priority was given to the US customers, both on-line and in-store.
Australia is somewhere else down the line...
There is also a discrepancy in the order status vs order fulfilment for anyone ordering before November (it might actually be a few days into November when the first units went out).
People who ordered after this date are getting their orders, and people who ordered before are mostly still sitting on "Not yet Shipped".
My suggestion is to give apple a call and (remaining calm and constructive) ask what they can do to expiate your shipping or status.. They will say they cant do anything the first couple of times, but see what happons..

I kept the operator for a little longer than i should (we went through the customs excuse, the shipping excuse, the high demand excuse and then the its only new excuse which might be valid, but not all in the one phone call.

He said my i5 will ship by the 25th of november, hopefully with delivery before 31 November. mixed feelings really, with the light at the end of the tunnel im feeling a bit better i guess. There must be another run of i5's going down the production line again and some might be heading down under.

Ill update when i hear something further...

Ordered i5 through business store here in Italy, 11/13 ...no updates yet! I guess there will be some time to wait :( (I had ordered the C2D in october, then change to an i5!)

so angry

I'm so angry with apple its not even funny any more. The level of incompetence is astounding. I ordered mine 10/28 some where around 11/4 they put a hold on my credit card, released few days later, and ever since nothing! I'm tired of seeing people here, who order well after me, and have gotten there's. I'm also tired of the fact if you go on and order one today, you get a delivery date. Mine still shows delivers in "November". My first and probably last BTO. What a crock!!

Give them a call, see what they can do, you fall into the "just before november forgotton generation" Lots of people in the same boat im afraid (im over on the stern, chucking up the vegemite toast and iced coffee i had for breakfast)
