I received my replacement i7. No cracks, discoloration, warps, video problems etc... perfect condition.

I did notice they changed the design of upper Styrofoam blocks that hold the top of the iMac in place.

Good luck to you all :)

Very nice. If you don't mind, could you post pictures of the new styrofoam blocks? We would be interested in seeing how they differ.

Btw, how long from ordering did your unit actually ship?

Does every order actually get slowed down by the Chinese customs clearance? I thought it was just random orders that tended to get picked and are subsequently slowed down as a result. Can't image the Chinese having the man power or time to go through every since order. I really think it is spot checks and some are unlucky to get picked.

All the clearances are bulk....the units are in containers and they clear all the units in the container with one swipe. ALL units must be cleared by customs, not just some of them. FedEx International told me today that the holdup can be several days.

Oh ok, thanks for the clarification. So why is it that some seem to be picked out for further customs processing than others? I am guessing that the whole container is picked for further processing while the rest go through the "standard" route?

I have high hopes that mine will show up tomorrow!!!!

Well, my package just arrived at the sorting headquarters in Memphis. Here's hoping it heads out on its way to me tomorrow morning!

Updated tracking below:

They don't "select" any for special processing... before any product leaves the country it is inspected by customs for that country. The problem right now is the demand on shipping exceeds the capacity to ship. Apple is not the only vendor trying to ship products from this port... all the makers are located in this area and export to the US.

The same is true in Alaska when the plane lands on US soil... all are cleared by US Customs.

Is *anybody* getting appropriate updates from UPS on their tracking page? It's very frustrating to me.

My UPS tracker still says that the iMac is in Germany, but the delivery date is still today. I called UPS, they confirmed that a package was actually on a car today.

5 minutes ago the UPS driver called me, and said he had a 17KG something package in his car - to be delivered between 0900-1500. :D

So, I would call UPS. :)

Hei guys, just a question.

Do all the iMac's that have to be transported by flight, are made by the FedEx company?

I ask this because about an hour ago coming to work i saw a big ass airplane from FedEx, and it's not usual to see one flying by the city to the airport, and i see a loooot of them everyday lolol.

And, as the stores haven't got no i5/i7 for sale, neither the people who have already bought them online have recieved it, i'm guessing they're arriving today.

Yesterday Apple Call center said me that my iMac was shipped from the czech republic....Today, with TNT tracking number, I saw that was shipped from Shanghai....really really strange!!

Still waiting for mine to ship, day 5!

Edit: Does anyone know when Apple charges your credit card? I've been checking every day in a hopes that it will provide some information as to when the i7 is going to be shipped. Right now I've been charged by Apple twice, but only for $100 and $40, which I'm assuming is just for the printer and shipping. Anyone know?

:)It's here. It left the Czech republic yesterday evening and arrived here this morning. It does not have any problems so far, including dead pixels.

I've got a charge for my Apple Care thingy + the express shipping cost on the iMac, but no charge for the iMac itself. I'm expecting it soon, though, as my computer shipped on Monday.

Speaking of efficiency:

Once it got moving, it moved PDQ. Called FedEx and they said that it's expected at my door by 11 am. So, total transit time from Shanghai -> Anchorage -> Memphis -> Houston -> my doorstep should total about 35 hours. Not bad for a trip of damn near 8,000 miles.

I am talking specifically about those few who have been held up/delayed for 1-2days in China before being flown out vs. those that go straight on the plane and are flown out.

Comes down to timing... space available and you are on the plane. I was held up for 2-3 days and now about 900 miles from Anchorage for Monday delivery of my second i7. Also some who do not identify their location it could be EU or AU, also some are UPS and some are TNT and some are FedEX Same with order dates... some received their units before me and ordered later. It is not an exact science and who knows what other variables are at work.

All I know is that FedEx Intl. told me customs was delaying shipments because the demand was so great at this time of year. We are competing with Barbie Dolls and other gifts for flight space....:D

That is my understanding as well. I can't remember what page of the thread is was talked about, but there were some iMacs heading to NA where they were scheduled for the same flight for Alaska as others and somehow their order was pulled for some special customs exam. I just can't remember if it was leaving China or coming into Alaska. But I remember it was only a few of the computers and not all of them. Someone made some joke about someone trying to smuggle drugs with the iMacs. :p
