This was sent to me by my reseller I ordered my I7 from:

Just a follow up update on the iMac order. Apple has identified a production issue with the graphics cards in the machines with quad core processors. This has resulted in machines with flickering screens or video problems. Many users that have received machines already are having these issues. Apple has re-worked the video card to resolve the issue, but this has created a delay on the orders. Machines with 2.66 GHZ processors should start shipping next week, those with 2.8GHZ processors should start shipping the week after.

Any machines that are currently available at stores will be the older models and will likely suffer from the flickering video issue. This would be resolved as a warranty repair on the machine.

We will keep you updated with any information regarding shipment of your order.

I don't know about anyone else but this sounds like an embellishment on the part of the re-seller to justify the delay - the video issues are well documented. As far as I'm aware Quads are still being despatched from Shanghai.

@93sr20det

Can you share info about when you placed your order and as a result of this info whats your revised delivery date?

Thanks

Just ordered on 7 Dec via Apple Store after the bad Authorized Apple Dealer got my deposit, keep me wait for 2 weeks but nothing to deliver !

The order no. email said I should able to have it by 23 Dec........... really looking for that day, I already prepared the migration path from PC to Mac completely :D

My CC was pre-authorized yesterday by Apple. Did anyone who has already had theirs ship or arrive, pay attention to how many days it was between your CC getting pre-authorized and when it shipped?

thanks!

Would also love to know if anyone has any information about this. I secretly convinced myself that I would wake up this morning and have an e-mail notification from apple saying that it shipped and when I checked my e-mail there it was! Except the e-mail was about gifting an iPod Touch. Such a tease!! Still in the "Not yet shipped" status :-\

My order was submitted to Apple on Nov. 20th and I received the email from him on December 2nd stating the delay.

Hopefully mine will ship the week of the 14th and I will have a merry X-mas.

Since I got applecare with it I am going to talk to the reseller about free overnight shipping and maybe a year of mobile me for the wait.

Got my i7 just now from FedEx. FedEx rules! Shipped 12/7 from China and arrived in the AM on 12/8. I can verify that the packaging has NOT changed and is the same kind that has been used this whole time ( I have had 3 i5's previously).

Apple also put a hold on my CC yesterday for my i7 2TB BTO ordered Nov. 28. They're still saying it won't ship til the 14th, but I'm hopeful it will ship sooner (but if waiting til the 14th means no video issues, I'm happy to wait). Applecare and remote were delivered yesterday.

I got it i got it i got it!!!

Its b-e-a-utiful! and huuuuuge!!!

Buuuut, i dont have the icon of my hard drive anywhere, can anybody tell me how to put it on the desktop?

Finally got a tracking number, of sorts! It's 10 digits and begins with an 8, and the carrier is currently "UK DISTRIBUTION CENTER" (Surely that should be CENTRE...) with the result that the tracking number doesn't work for UPS, TNT, FedEx or anybody else.

To anybody else in the UK, what did this mean? Should I expect it tomorrow? Thursday? Friday?

I've bought loads of Apple stuff from the online store  - when I have that number (I assume its the Apple Delivery Reference Number) its usually on an email which says the order has been shipped and gives me a date when I can expect the goods. The email has a link to the apple store - when you check the order status (under the accounts tab) it will tell you who is shipping (usually UPS) and they give the shippers code code as a link.

If you didn't buy from Apple but through a reseller then I can't help tho'

It was from Apple (like a reseller would have a 27" iMac...). I haven't had an email from Apple, this number is pulled straight off the order status page. The Assigned Carrier is down as UK DISTRIBUTION CENTRE.

I eat my hat. Now changed to UPS with the normal 1Z number, and tracking works!

Interestingly, Apple have split it into 4 packages (I'm assuming iMac, MBP Sleeve, Mouse + Remote, Headphones). 2 are In Transit, and the other 2 are on the Billing Info Received stage. Fingers crossed the iMac is one that gets here tomorrow!

whoa, status on Apple's order status page just changed to "prepared for shipment"! could it be that I will actually get this beast before I leave??

Ordered my loaded i7 on the 27th of November, a couple of days later apple updated that status to "ships on dec 11th", it has been sitting there ever since. I even paid for the express shipping charge hoping it would speed things up....waste of money.
I have called apple a couple of times to see if I could get a better estimate since I am going abroad for the holidays and I am leaving, of course, on December 11th!
Apple has been as helpful as they can but nothing has changed the shipping date, so at this point it looks like my brand new iMac will be sitting unopened until I get back in January :(:(

Should have just waited to order this in January....oh well.

I ordered an i5 the 27th as well at about 5pm central. Still days not yet shipped. I just want them to ship it right the first time.

That makes two people who ordered on Nov. 27 and had their machines shipped today, Dec. 8. Both of these cases also had an expected ship date of Dec. 11. That means it took 7 business days to ship (not including the day they ordered) and that the iMac shipped 3 business days before expected. So for those who ordered on Nov. 30th like me, 7 business days from ordering it is tomorrow (Dec. 9), but 3 business days before expected ship date is Dec. 11. So my *guess* would be that it is going to ship sometime between tomorrow and Friday. I'm really hoping for tomorrow because with 2-3 day shipping it might actually make it here by Friday. Lots of ifs and lots of guessing, but I can hope, can't I? Keeping my fingers crossed :apple:!

Yes, I read this before and friends told this kind of problem........... hope mine one is ok........... will wait and see........... 23-Dec.......... still 2 more weeks, what a long long 2 more weeks ................

Hi,

So I am about to pick up an i5 from my local Apple store. Will this also have the screen problem so should I wait?

Cheers!

I believe they did halt production

I cannot believe that it takes Apple 19 days to ship a computer.

That seems like a really long time for a massed produced computer.

Even BTO is faster than that usually.

I ordered mine on the 3rd and expected delivery is the 18th and more likely the 21st due to the weekend.

Well I think I can kill the halt production rumor.

I had my friend who has a flickering i5 send an email to Jobs. Got referred to an executive relations guy and they are replacing the machine and that engineering wants his iMac. Which means they still don't know what the problem is. He did say that it isn't affecting all of them, but is a known issue.

Now question is do I gamble or just cancel my order? Will I be refunded for the AppleCare charge?

:(

i got my i7 today, its perfect, good luck for all of you who are still waiting!
Its worth the wait!
