iMac i7 Out of Box Experience

Well, I ordered my iMac 27" i7 machine on November 1, 2009 from B&H Photo in New York City and I finally received it on December 3 2009. Whew! That was a long and painful wait but, anything good is worth waiting for right?

My machine arrived via UPS with it's three nested boxes in perfect condition. Having kept up with the news, the hype, and the forum threads, I was anxious for many reasons. Reports of cracked glass, dead pixels, not powering up, etc. caused me to have cautious optimism.

Well, out of the box and onto the table I had no cracked glass, it powered up perfectly, no dead pixels, and no other blemishes in any way! It was PERFECT in every way! It was what I had been drooling over for many weeks and so much more.

I installed Parallels Desktop 5.0 and Windows 7 Home Edition and let me tell you, this is freaking incredible! I now have a single machine which so far runs all my OSX apps and my Windows apps without a hitch! This is the greatest consumer innovation since the Dysan Ball vacuum cleaner!

Check this out. I am running Lumapix Fotofusion Extreme 4 under Windows 7. Since I am running Parallels in Crystal mode, the app looks as though it is a native Mac app without any real visual hints that it is a windows app. At the same time, I am running the OSX version of Adobe Bridge CS4 and Adobe Photoshop CS4. Now listen to this. I can drag a JPG image from Adobe Bridge right onto the Fotofusion app and BANG - THERE IT IS! Just like that! Nothing to it!

Man, who ever thought it would be this good? This thing is AMAZING!

Interestingly, though, you can choose one of the "Get It Faster" holiday options besides the Standard and then it ships within 24 hours. I guess they must still have some of those lying around that they can ship out.

And yet they still use the "World wide shortage" excuse as why no reseller orders are not being shipped to AU... ignorance to them is bliss i guess..

Woohoo! Status just changed to Prepared for Shipment about 10 min ago. Ordered i7 Nov 30th at 5pm EST. :)

Now hopefully the priority shipping will get it here Friday.

I JUST CHECKED AND MINE DID TOO! YAY! Maybe we'll be shipped together!!! Praying for a Friday delivery!

Interestingly, the UK store still shows 5-7 business days for the C2D and 7-10 business days for the i5/i7. It has been this way for quite a while now.

The UK store has now changed to 2 weeks for both the C2D and i5/i7 models.

Personally I think it's to make sure customers are aware that their orders won't arrive until after Christmas. When it was at 7-10 days, some people would look at that and presume it would have a chance of arriving in time for Christmas. Some of these people would then be annoyed that it didn't arrive in time. By changing it to 2 weeks, they are stopping this occurring.

I ordered mine on November 30th as well, but ordered from MacConnection.com ... they told me they expect to receive and ship on the 11th ... two more days ...

I ordered i7 on Nov 27th, still "Not yet shipped", though they charged the full amount.
Says 11th as a ship date.

same with Canada. I think what was said earlier is right. They are just letting people know that there is no way their order will make it for X-mas.

My I7 is in Alaska right now and should be here ( Vancouver ) tomorrow. It has been too long a wait really. Keeping my fingers crossed I have no screen issues causing this ordeal to carry on even longer.

Ordered my i7 on Black Friday. It shipped yesterday 2 days early. Should be here monday! Have a safe journey from Shanghai my friend. My desk will be clean when you get here, I promise.

I threw my hat into the ring earlier today for an i7/8GB/2TB BTO. Naturally, the 2 week estimate says shipping December 23rd, 2 weeks from today. I'm not in a huge hurry, so it's fine if it gets here the week after Christmas. I just would like it by the first weekend in January (New Year's weekend). :D

I'm in the US and ordered directly from the online Apple store.

Oh no. Something I just noticed. My order number has 666 in it. I am getting satan's iMac. :( :p

Ordered another i7 2TB on Dec 1st. Just changed to "prepared for shipment" within the last hour.

I wonder what's holding out the shipments for these Macs. Apart from the introduction of the MacBook back in early 2008, I don't remember any Mac still shipping in 7-10 business days close to 2-months after its introduction.

I was also waiting for it to hit ships in 24h so it would appear on a friend's EPP page (Apple employee) and he would buy it for me, but I'm tired of waiting, so I'll probably just order it without the discount...Not that big of a deal anyway.

First of all, hello to all of you guys reading this forum. This is my post #1 here.

I received my iMac i7 (4GB/1TB) 8th of December. I ordered it via Apple Store Online 17th of November. It's week 47 model and had cracked glass on it (bottom left corner). Otherwise it's in perfect condition.
Im getting it replaced with another one which will be shipped (according to Apple) 23rd and delivered 30th of December.
Apple agreed that I can keep the defective iMac as long as the new one will be delivered. Just got to remember to take out the extra 4GB of RAM I installed in it ;)

I hope this was helpful information for someone :)

I also had that special little number combination in my order number and the iMac showed up with cracked glass. I guess the little red guy with horns downstairs did not like the idea that someone else is about to get his new toy ;)

I hope yours will be in perfect condition though. :)

Mine shipped!

I ordered on Nov 30. Got confirmation of shipping today. Should be delivered by the 14 :D

ohhhhh yaaaaa
my i7 just left Anchorage at 18:30 local time ( well departure scan at 6:30). Still on track for tomorrow delivery. Having trouble locating the ups flight that it should / could be on. anyone got any pointers. Final destination is Vancouver but that doesn't mean its heading straight here. Not much in the way of ANC to YVR for UPS flights that I have seen. strange, I must be missing something.....

Minor update... I ordered my i7 2TB 8 GiB on Nov 5, received it on November 25. Yesterday I got an envelope in the mail containing the paperwork for the AppleCare and a disc with TechTools Deluxe.

The story is now complete.

As previously posted, ordered an iMac on the 30th of November, with quoted shipping date of the 14th with delivery on the 17th.

I check my email this morning, and the iMac has shipped as of today the 10th and will be delivered by the 15th.

Same exact thing, got the "Package received after FedEx cutoff" so I guess that's why it's going to take an extra day.

My stock i7 ordered on Dec 1 through Apple Online store shipped today (Dec 10) with an estimated delivery date of Dec 15. I can't wait to get my hands on this machine. :)

Stock i5 shipped a couple hours ago. Won't deliver till the 14th though. I was hoping it would have gotten out sooner. Damn weekends. I'll just make it a drunken blur so I can forget about it.
