well considering the OP went with the insta gratification of not getting the quad core they had to have speaks volumes for some people's rationalization of why they are buying in the first place. It rarely is need on this site.

ha, you guys are funny. If you read my post as to why I got the C2D, you'll see why I did. I didn't have a computer at all and couldn't wait the month to be without a computer, so I had to get one.

This is a thread for those waiting for their quad to ship, but not one for people complaining about theirs not shipping yet because it's November 1.

Most of us (if not all) are part of Gen-Y aka: the "we want it now" generation. So 'waiting' typically means the same thing as 'complaining' ;-)

Personally, I'm waiting for them to show up in stores. I'm not in a rush to drop +$2000, but I am in a rush to stop using my 1st gen MacMini as my everyday machine

I hope that was a typo and he means "7th of November".

Isn't Apple pretty good at keeping it's word? I don't think they would mess up that bad.

I hope that Apple ships a computer that doesn't have any bugs and is fast out of the box without issues and don't rush it. If it is December 7th for a computer without problems vs. one shipped November 7th with issues, give me the one that ships in December hands down.

They didn't indicate mid-Novemeber. They indicated November.

I'm sorry guys. Just going by what I was told
when I placed my order over the phone with
the Apple Store.

The Apple rep told me Mid November.

If that is not what you were expecting and were
told something else than I can only be one of
dozens throwing out dates that were promised by
different Apple reps.

Dude, there should be more people like us
taking that attitude. There are quite a few
reported issues with these iMacs. I said this
many times -- I would rather wait longer to
make certain that those issues are addressed.

I ordered the C2D version and have enjoyed the last three weeks with it doing things for family and friends that I wouldn't have been able to do otherwise.

Three weeks? You must be living in the future. The new iMacs haven't even been out for two weeks.

good point.
but at the same time they should have some type of transparency. if they decided to push back the shipping date for w/e reason.... they should inform users - at the very least an apology letter to those who already placed an order don't you think?

Hahaha, guess the C2D 27'' must be that fast; fast enough to time travel! Can't wait to see what the quad core can do. :D

It is literally the first business day of November!! They still have plenty of time to meet the "Ships in Novembre" note on the website. If it rolls around to the last business day of the year and they haven't updated anything, then I think we should have an issue. Let's give them some time to figure everything out. I know that as soon as they know when they can provide a reliable computer they will start shipping.

It will ship when it ships. That is the only given at this point. All else is speculation... Direct from my contact at :apple:

4850 has been shipping in iMacs now for over six months as BTO parts.

The delay is almost certainly the i5/i7 chip or the motherboard required for them to work being delivered in large enough quantities.

Do you still think it is the i5/i7 chip?

I called Apple (again ) today and the rep told me they are gonna ship the quads this week an by the same time gave me free express shipping! (2-3 days) . With so many poeples giving different shipping dates it is hard to be sure which one is the good one!! Ill stick with the nov 3rd date and pray to recieve it by friday ( yes im optimistic). This is what i had to say and will be refreshing this page at least a hundred times today and see other speculations on THE shipping date.

Sorry for my english

On the UK Apple Store the base spec 27 inch iMac is now listed as shipping in 5 business days (as opposed to 24 hours previously). The quad-core machines are still listed as shipping in "November".

Make of that what you will...

Then why hasn't Apple updated their website with "shipping in 24hrs?"

I think we should just realize that the delay for the shipment in the quads is due to production. I think Apple is well aware of the products they ship out. Apple has tested and retested quad builts of the iMac well before any announcement was given regarding the new product. So if anyone thinks the delay is because they want to be sure it works... well. That was done a long time ago. I'm sure its due to production, inventory, not "Let's see how many bugs need to be fixed before we ship out the quads." :D

OKAY!

Word from my local Apple Store as of 2 minutes ago is Apple has told them that the quad-core iMacs will start shipping tomorrow, November 3rd. This seems to be consistent with what a number of retailers are showing, including Best Buy, as well as what others have reported on here.

Something has to be going down tomorrow.

Who's your contact? The little boy yelling "Extra! Extra! Read all about it!"

These days, everybody, it seems, has a contact at Apple. For 99% of them, their contact is as high on the food chain as a manager at a retail store.
