Aye, December 29th delivery here too...perhaps the same shipment?

Definitely looks like it. Seems like a lot of people got theirs shipped out today.

I hope all of us that get outs within the next two weeks report no cracks/yellowness/noisy hard drives/et cetera!

Mine also shipped early - was supposed to go out on the 29th, but went out on the 24th. UK delivery estimate is the 8th January, but it'll be here before then by a day or two.

Bit pissed off that Apple's idea of "expedited" shipping is just as slow as normal shipping to the UK though...

My iMac arrived 6 days quicker than the initial estimate, so you may get it quite a bit earlier than the 8th if you're lucky.

My original i7 arrived 2 days earlier than Apple's latest delivery estimate (they said between the 8-11th December, it came on the 9th), so I'm not expecting much. Just narked that when they ordered the replacement I was told it would be faster than the original, yet it's still going via the EMEA Fast Ship method which takes ages.

No change in ship/delivery status

I ordered my 27" i7 on Dec. 16th. It still shows shipped December 31st, Arrive January 6th. Looks like they are making some good headway on earlier orders though! :)

UPDATE:
This is the first time I've ever had a package delayed because the driver couldn't get them all delivered, but I guess it's understandable because it's so close to Christmas.

I thought I was going to be in the same situation until the FedEx guy knocked on the door at 9:32 PM to deliver mine. :D

He was "almost done" at that time...

I ordered an Imac i7 from a reseller on Nov 19th they are still telling me they don't know when they will be receiving it. Would it arrive in 2 weeks if I ordered straight off the web?

Merry Christmas.

Hard to tell really--this time of year can be strange. That being said, one thing Apple WILL do is make sure that they have their supply available before they supply resellers. In other words, you'll get it from Apple more quickly--but two weeks? Probably, but not certain.

There, here, somewhere over there and back again!!!

We ordered a stock iMac i7 on Dec 11th. Was not supposed to be shipped until Dec 28th for delivery on Jan 3rd. Yesterday I watched the shipping info change from "Not yet shipped" to "Preparing to ship" to "Shipped". It's being sent via FedEx. On their site I watched as they recieved my iMac in Shanghai. Today it arrived in Anchorage, AK. I am ecstatic. I live a short distance from there. However, I'll have to sit back and watch it leave here and go to Memphis to be sorted. Depending on how long that takes, it will be sent back to Alaska for delivery to me!!!

:eek::confused::):apple:

Well... I guess due to bad weather my iMac i7 is still just miles away from me in Anchorage or is circling over Memphis!!! According to FedEx's website "Inclement weather conditions at Memphis hub may cause some service delays and disruptions within the U.S. today." Hopes of sitting in front of my glorious shiny brand new iMac on Christmas day have all but faded now. With no movement happening with FedEx on Christmas, I guess 'My Precious' won't get here until Dec 26th or 27th!!!

:eek::confused::(:apple:

Not Easy To Order

I am not exciting about getting a new computer through the mail due to the distinct possibility of it being damaged in shipping. So I went to my local Apple Store at Legacy Village last night with the intention of getting one there.

I was under no illusion that they would have one in-stock and was prepared to wait 2-weeks for it. However, the salesman I talked to told me that not only did they not have any, they refused to take my order for one! He told me to order it online, which I ended up doing today. I paid for the 2-3 day shipping, so it will be interesting to see how long it takes to get here. Oddly enough, they are also charging me sales tax.

I don't understand Apple's logic. It would seem to be easier for them to take my order at a store and sell me one off a pallet than have to package and mail them individually. What gives? :(

More than likely... Being that Christmas is rapidly approaching, I'd venture to guess that Apple has either caught up with their back orders or fixed the "anomalies" with the iMac's. It seems by reading the last couple of pages of this forum, a person might believe that the flow of iMac's are now bursting onto the scene. So I'd say, we might see the 2 week delay abate now!

I ordered my i7 (with 2T drive) from Apple on Dec 8th and received it on the 15th.
Buying through a third party is like waiting around until a bus is totally full before it goes anywhere, while buying through Apple directly is like getting a taxi and moving right away.
Third-party dealers want to fulfill their own order obligations each month (x hundred orders minimum to receive their negotiated contract price/discounts from Apple) – a dealer gets a better deal if he contracts to buy, say, 500 units a month than if he is only obliged contractually to order 50. So if they don't have the numbers they need, the dealers wait until they have enough to top up the order. The delays aren't due to Apple.

Why??? It's short and simple. Direct sales cuts out the middleman!

I ordered an imac i7 from a reseller (B&H) on cyber Monday. (Dec 1st) They've been on backorder and they said they didn't know when they would be in. Well, I've been informed that mine shipped yesterday so maybe Apple is starting to meet demand. Mines in transit (UPS) and wont make it by Christmas but sure is better than the mid to late Jan others have speculated. Glad i didn't cancel and reorder now. Can't wait to finally get the beast!

Nothing to do with any Apple backlog. The dealer has most likely been stockpiling orders to meet his contractual quotas before ordering. The dealer doesn't say to Apple "Here's an order for one iMac and I'll send another tomorrow." He says "Here are my 100 orders for December, as per my monthly contract which gives me x amount of discount"
If the dealer has to wait three weeks until he has enough orders to fulfill his monthly (or quarterly) order quota, you have to wait too. But of course, when you ask why there's a delay, the dealer says there's a backlog at Apple. Actually, any backlog is the dealer's.

The stores receive their shipments exactly the same way (a Fedex truck, after a flight from Shanghai) that you would receive yours at home. There is no more chance of it arriving at your home broken than if the same machine was delivered to the Apple Store. Apple doesn't run its own fleet of trucks to deliver to its stores.

Guess what. We must be on Santa's 'good' list. Our iMac is on a truck heading to us as I type!!! Apparently, who ever I talked to at FedEx yesterday was mistaken. I called them yesterday when I saw that our iMac had arrived in Anchorage. The FedEx rep told me that our iMac was in a container with dozens of other iMacs. This container was to be sent on to Memphis to be 'sorted.'

Well... I just had finished replying to a comment in this forum and decided to once again check FedEx's website. Low and behold our iMac was shown to now be at our local FedEx location. I then called FedEx again and the automated system told me that indeed our iMac was there and delivery was scheduled for Monday, Dec 28th. I thought to myself, "Okayeee..." So I called back once again and briefly waited to talk to a 'live' person. I asked if I could go and pickup our iMac at the local FedEx location as I didn't want to wait until Dec 28th. The FedEx rep asked me to hold one moment while he checked. When he came back on the line, he told me the most wonderful news anyone would want to hear... "Your package has been loaded on a truck and is on its way to you."

After I calmed myself, I explained to my wife the situation. While I went back into a frenzy of excitement, my wife checked the website again. Evidently during my fit of excitement, FedEx had updated its website to show now that our iMac is 'On FedEx vehicle for delivery'!!!

UPDATE #2:

So as I described in an earlier post, I had an i5 out for delivery yesterday the 23rd which never made it to by house (the driver ran out of time and it ended back at the local facility). This morning the 24th, it was out for delivery again but I called to make sure it would be delivered today. Fedex said they couldn't guarantee anything but that it should be delivered today. Otherwise, I could go to the facility and wait until the driver gets back and pick up the package myself.

Well anyway, we had a candlelight Christmas Eve service to go to at 4pm and the package still hadn't arrived at by 3pm. Then, about 5 minutes before we left the house, the package arrived! I couldn't believe it. I had no time to open the box to see if it was in one piece.

Got home later on, everything looks fine from the outside. Booted up the machine and got to the Migration screen. My old iMac is a 24" early 2009 model that recently died (screen won't come on anymore but the computer boots fine otherwise). I wanted to transfer everything from the old one to the new one, so I hooked up an ethernet cable and attempted to do the migration. However, the program told me to input some code on my old mac after running the Migration Assistant. Well, the problem is that I can't see anything on my old mac and so I could not open the program or enter the code.

Then I remembered I had a firewire cable! I hooked that up and was able to restart the old computer by holding down "T" and the new mac saw it right away. And thankfully, the old computer needed no input to do the migration with the firewire cable like it did with ethernet. The data is transferring right now as I type this, but so far it looks great! There were several gray screens during setup and I could not see any color tinges, but I'll have to see white when I get done with the migration. Haven't seen any flickers or unusual noises.

My 27" is a week 51 i5 with the 8GB RAM upgrade. I will report back when I'm able to put it through its paces.

Here I am boys and girls typing on my just totally awesome iMac i7. This baby arrived at Dec 24, 2009 5:44 PM according to FedEx's website. Opening the boxes up was a total family experience. We got her out of the box and took off the outer wrapping. Guess what we saw? We saw the mighty splendor of a perfectly pristine totally hot iMac 27 inch screen. I set it up, plugged it in and with the whole family present, turned her on. Yeah baby!!! Guess what we saw? We saw a perfectly working and running iMac!!! We, I am in nirvana!!! Ooh baby!!!

Merry ***** christmas everybody! We wish that all your Mac dreams are as joyous as ours!!!

An update for Dec. 16th orders

My page at Apple still shows shipping December 31st, arriving January 6th.

That said, it sounds like several excited people got their iMacs earlier than expected, and in GOOD SHAPE. I think that is good news for every single one of us.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! :)

UPDATE #3:

Woo hoo! I've gotten everything transferred over via the Migration Assistant, and wow is THAT nice! It evened transferred all of my iTunes music and library settings. That MA saved me a LOT of work. Yeah, had to reinstall some apps but that is painless on the Mac!

As for the hardware, my week 51 i5 seems to be problem-free so far. The screen is stunning, the computer is very quiet, and no flickering or yellow tinge.

I don't know if this means I just got a good one or if they have fixed most of the problems with week 51+ units?

This is a shipping thread.

Mine is still listed as "in transit" from Anchorage...the same way it has been since yesterday afternoon. Meh.
