There are also some trembling displays.....! and some hard disk noises...!
Not to worry anyone but my point is as you said when it is out it is out....and we should be patient.!

true, forgot about the displays, that is only under certain conditions (low screen brightness after woken from sleep). the hard disk noises are to be expected though because of head parking and whatnot.
Incorrect.
battery is about to go flat so i wont be back for a while, but can you explain the problem you know about then? does it flicker under low brightness?
I just ordered my first iMac (I already have a MacBook Pro). I got the 27" i7 with 16GB RAM and 2T drive. The only downside is the whimpy graphics card - 4850. Really... couldn't Apple at least pick a recent GPU. The 4850 is 2+ years old. I'm not a big gamer but occasional like to fire up a FPS. I don't understand the rationale. It would be such a fantastic solution with a little more beaf in the graphics department.
Anyhow, I have a monster PC (Quad@3.&GHz, 8GB 1150 RAM, 10K RPM Drives, and two Nvidia 9800GX2). However, I'd love to ditch the PCs but will probably have to keep it around for the occasional gaming.
Bummer.
It seems like everything is pointing to a release tomorrow (or starting tomorrow), since many people's are saying prepared for shipment, and someone said Apple store told them they'll have shipments this week.
Sorry guys/ladies...but I received the "prepared for shipment" automated message about a week ago (or maybe a week 1/2 ago). I ordered the imac 27" quad core a couple of days after it was announced but wanted to amend it because I forgot to order the printer (to take advantage of the $100 off).
The automatic message for the imac status was already "prepared for shipment." For a split second I was really excited but I knew it was too good to be true. And when I asked the rep who was helping me about the status... she indicated no, at that point it was still scheduled for a Nov release.
Wish I had better news. Eager beaver here as well!
Don't want to hijack this thread, but here's a whole thread dedicated to the subject. Basically, random flickering and blacking out of the screen. Here's a good video of the problem on the 2nd page. Frankly, I'm surprised this problem is not more widespread (which is a good thing)

Just tried to follow up my order in the Australia store with my order number but only got a generic "it's ready when it's ready" answer...
I just really, really, really want to kill-off my 5 year old PC which is just about to collapse and this waiting for any sign of a shipping date is killing me. Will the iMac arrive before the PC dies, or is the PC going to claim the win and die before I have a new computer to replace it... that is the question!![]()
I don't understand why everybody keeps calling Apple for a shipping update. Maybe it's like continually pressing an elevator button
When the new Quad-Cores were announced, Apple stated they would ship in November. That was/is their estimate -- shipping sometime between now and November 30. Could that change to December? Sure, but we all hope not
The Apple website will have the latest information. You will receive an email notification of shipping, and that's when the waiting period really slows down![]()

No coincidence customer service continues to be one of the highest expenses any large company has....
Agree. One of the highest expenses, definitively way higher than supply chain & logistics management. At least at Apple.![]()
