So who else bought their quad-core iMac to power their Stargate?

I did, well... not really, havn't ordered mine yet... but I'm gonna make some redecorating in my apartment and my folks will be taking my projector+htpc and I'll change it for a i7 (I think)... worst part of it is going from 104" to 27", but then I will get rid of my Vista infested computer :)

If your tests work out, I might also try to power my stargate with it! Who, knows, it might even have enough power to get me to Destiny! ;)

the quality of the image will make up for the loss in size ;)

Chatted w/another online rep last night. Initially she (Melissa?) towed the party line that it hadn't been announced yet and that no one knew. After a little more enquiry she did say that she had heard they would be shipping the 11th.

As for you:
Couldn't agree more. This whole thread is ridiculous. You have a bunch of clowns bothering Apple support reps, to ask questions they don't even know the answer to. They can take an educated guess, but that's about it.

Apparently it'll make people feel better if they keep calling back until one rep will tell them what they want to hear, so they can go to sleep with visions of sugarplums dancing in their heads.

No coincidence customer service continues to be one of the highest expenses any large company has....

...speculation and anticipation is the point of this thread ya troll. Why even spew forth and waste your breath on "a bunch of clowns?" Buzz off.

Nov 7th

Oh no, bestbuy.ca just changed the release date to Nov 7th.
What's worst is that's a Saturday. I'm sure that date is wrong too.

I popped into my local apple store today as I wanted to get a first hand look at the 27" iMac and also the new Magic Mouse. While I was having a play a apple rep came up to me and asked if she could help. I explained that I was just having playing as I had ordered the i7 and was waiting for it to ship. She replied that it should not be too long as he was told that they would be getting stock week commencing the 16th.

I took it with a pinch of salt but you never know.

Just ordered my 27" i7 on Sunday. Very excited to get a computer that will not hold up my work and freeze periodically. My present iMac 2.0 ghz has been surpassed by the software I run.
The sales rep told me to go with the i7 and 8gb ram and 2 T drive. Do you think they are trained to sell the most expensive model they have ? She said I can't upgrade the processor, so I should not take a chance with the dual core, i5 at least and i7 would be better. I am running Aperture and CS4 for my photography business and I have been putting off certain projects because of my present iMac's pokey, choppy performance.
As far as people calling customer support and asking for shipping updates, this is what my husband who is in sales says - customers just like communication. He will call his customers that are waiting for orders just to keep in touch and tell them the order is still in process. He says customers are happy just for the communication, whether it is bad or good news, they appreciate being kept in the loop.

You guys must earn some serious bucks to afford that. I can barely justify getting the i5 for the price, WOuldnt be able to afford it without my girlfriends University discount!!

Sounds like you picked a good machine out.

iWoz87 :

lol - We are not college students ! Our kids are even out of college ! So more money to spend.

you reckon?? i imagine supply chain & logistics would be massive.

welcome to macrumors btw :D

Thank you.
I was just speculating :p. I'd imagine it too. Too bad they are clueless about delivery dates ("november" is not a date, even more so when november is... now). I'd rephrase it: s.chain & logistics are massive at least as much as the room for their improvement. :D

iWoz, sounds like you have a champagne taste on a beer budget ;)

When i was a student I was using a PC held together with bailing twine with Gentoo....

Now I make videogames I *ahem* have an excuse to spend the money :p

I don't understand why everybody keeps calling Apple for a shipping update. Maybe it's like continually pressing an elevator button

When the new Quad-Cores were announced, Apple stated they would ship in November. That was/is their estimate -- shipping sometime between now and November 30. Could that change to December? Sure, but we all hope not

The Apple website will have the latest information. You will receive an email notification of shipping, and that's when the waiting period really slows down

This thread is really getting crazy with everyone speculating. If, worse case scenerio, you can't wait until the end of November, why don't you just buy a different Mac? If people are in such a rush to get the Quad because they "need it now," then maybe it would be better for them to pick up another computer. Apple estimates it will ship in November. It is now the 2nd business day in Novemeber and people are getting all upset that Apple hasn't shipped no updated the website.

The funniest thing is that people are trying to hear what they want to hear. You have some guy in Australia that says the online rep said it would ship November 8th. So everyone takes that as being the truth. Then you have a guy in Spain that says he was told it was the 6th, so everyone starts believing that. Then you have a guy in Scotland and America told November 3rd for sure, so everyone agrees that must be true but completely ignore all the contradictory dates that were given previously or all the people told that Apple really doesn't have a date set yet since they aren't ready. Obviously we all want the new Quad, myself included, but all this speculation based on no real evidence is just crazy. Every time an earlier date is noted, everyone starts getting excited as if it is true. Once Apple confirms the date, we will know for sure. We should just wait until we get an email notification or the website is updated.

I made up the dates and location above to make a point as I didn't feel like reading the previous posts to get the exact dates given or their location.

Youre probably the 10th person to do that. We love speculate on the date so let us be specularive and go on another forum thats all.
