My week 6 machine arrived yesterday - real sexy bit of kit......

...except my screen has such a yellow tinge I could see it while on the initial white booting up screen.... along with 1 dead pixel!!!

Not happy, mostly coz I will have to wait an age assuming Apple will replace it with a new one.

Does anyone have experience of getting replacements for yellow tinge on models ordered online? Will Apple ship out a new one, and collect the old one at the same time as delivery, or how does it work?

Base 27" iMac

Ordered and shipped same day from Mac Connection yesterday. Hope to receive it by this coming Wed or Thurs.. I notice they show it's already out of stock today "on order". Now I know what all the anticipation is about. Can't wait!

Ordered my 27" i5 on 6.1.2010, arrived on 11.02.2010

And its absolutely perfect. No tinge, no buzz, nothing. Display Firmware Patch was already applied (produced week 5).
Its a huge speed improvement compared to my old 24" Core2Duo. :)

I ordered mine on Feb 2. Even though my invoice says it will take three weeks to ship, I'm hoping it may ship by the 16th, since delays supposedly went back down to 2 weeks. If that happens I could possibly have my mac by the weekend. :)

Ordered mine 30th Dec 09, recieved 1st Feb, i unboxed and boxed it in the same week :(, called apple and they arranged a TNT guy to pick up the iMac at home, and in the same day i called them i recieved an email saying that my replacement was scheduled to be shipped at 25th Fev (still is).

So yes, Apple will ship you a new one and send someone to pick up the current one. You just got to call them and ask. :)

Hey,

My iMac just arrived today, week 6, and at least a quarter of the screen suffers from a yellow tinge, as well as a horizontal shadow across the screen. Not too happy about it. I'll edit with photos as soon as i get some uploaded.

I dunno if it shows up well in this, I checked on my MBP and it was hard to notice it, but on the iMac it was evident. On first boot up I was looking at the screen from below and saw a lovely yellow gleam. Bit of dust behind the glass too.

**UPDATE**

Just off the phone with Apple, a replacement is being sent, I'm keeping my iMac until it arrives and it should be out pretty quickly. The guy on the phone was super nice, explained the whole process and I was off the phone with a replacement on the way and possibly a bit of compensation too within 5 minutes. Have to wait until the new one arrives to see how much, if any. Not happy that i need a replacement, but I couldn't be happier with that service.

Well Apple aftersales were friendly and helpful and have arranged for a replacement to be sent... but the quoted shipping date is 8th March... here's hoping that will jump forward significantly!!

Your screen looks pretty good man, I wouldn't worry about it. Really, do you think you'll be using the computer in such a way whereas the shadow will be in the way? I would keep this one.

The yellowing of the screen isn't that noticeable now, it doesn't seem like such an issue and only annoys me because i know it's there, however there is a scratch on the LCD, thought it might have been dust but i took the glass off and it's not shifting. And since this morning the fans are stuck on and the Airport card has crapped out. I think I've just got a bad one.

It's a beautiful machine no doubt, however the vacuum like fan and screen scratch have overshadowed my original worries.

Hey guys

I just received an email from apple saying that my iMac as just been shipped. A week early than they estimated (25th Feb), and will receive on 25th Feb. but there's no tracking number. I read somewhere that there were people having the same situation.

Why?

Order mine Feb 1 ..Shipped yesterday [Tuesday] and with fed-x/apple 2 day shipping it will be here ..................Friday!

This is my exact problem...I cannot really notice the yellow. The screen is so much better than my old Core Duo iMac, but it just bothers me because I know it's there. Darn these forums! :D:D

Got mine Thursday night late. Set it up Friday and WOW, what a beautiful machine. Looks better in my office than at the store for sure. :D As far as I can tell there is no yellowing or dead pixels and my PC fan is loud enough to drown out any buzz if there is any.

Since I am a Mac newbie for the most part and have very little idea how to use all the features of this beast I bought a book over the weekend and am learning as much as I can. So far it is definitely a purcahse well worth making.

No video of the opening but my wife did take a picture of me giving it a big hug.

are you in the US? Mine still hasn't shipped yet, but I'm checking my email like crazy... hopefully it'll ship today. btw, Apple still hasn't charged my account yet, is it normal for that to take so long?

That's why I'm not going to use the test when I get mine. Just gonna give it a quick look over with a white screen.

I didn't do the test either, but I can see it on the grey boot up screen, and when I have a safari page open with a lot of white on it. It looks like mine is in the bottom center of the screen and the bottom right of the screen. 99% of the time I don't see it, and even when I do see it, it doesn't really bother me, I just know it's there.

I returned my i7 last week. Shipped and everything. I went the refund route - but someone made a mistake and I got an email notification this morning of my order being shipped. Apple has shipped me another replacement instead of giving me my money back - it'll be here Friday and it's a week 7. I don't know what to expect. We'll see.

I just ordered my i7 27" iMac.

First iMac, second Mac computer.

Despite all the horror stories, I took the plunge and I'm staying positive.
Happy waiting...

see if you get lucky you never know :D

Is there anyone else waiting to get the iMac (shipped from Shangai) and have information that there was an unforeseen event that may change the date of delivery? According to the UPS website.

Shipped from Shangai to Tampa in one day. Probably get tomorrow as it has to across the Bay!

anyone know if the 24 and 30 led monitors have this problem of yellow tint too? can't believe apple's still got this problem - it's getting close to my birthday now

They never gave me the option of a replacement, they said they could only offer me a refund which took a couple of weeks to sort out. I have now received the refund but I'm unsure how long to wait to re-order because of the problems people are still having when their new machines arrive.

It wasn't the yellow screen (which it had) that bothered me as much as it would freeze every 10 minutes and throw up a kernel panic at least once a day, despite having a freshly installed system out of the box.

I have used macs since system 7 and have never had a mac with as many problems as the one I returned, having said that it would have been the best mac I'd owned by far if it had worked as it should. The phrase "it just works" was beginning to sound a bit sour to my jaded ears.

Hey everyone!

I've been reading about these 27" iMac issues... had a question for yall.

I just ordered mine brand new about 2 hours ago.. :)

.... soooo given all this stuff that is going on, do you think I will have any issues? and also... do you think mine will be delayed in shipping?

I ordered a 27" i7 Quad

The only real answer is that no one knows. You could be fine, maybe most people are, maybe not. The problems haven't been eliminated, people are still getting screen issues but not everyone.

As for shipping, mine shipped out last night and is scheduled for delivery on the 23rd. There is an exception on the order but so far no delivery delay is estimated. At least one person had theirs shipped last night with a delay noted. The truth is that the reason for the delay will likely pass before your computer is built, let alone shipped.

On another note... I am officially a week 8 test dummy!

Model: - iMac (27-inch Late 2009) (CTO)

Codename: - ?

Build Country: - Your Mac was built in Changhai, China.

Build Year: - Your Mac was built in 2010.

Build Week - Your Mac was built in week 8 of that year (February).

Production Nr.: - Your Mac was number 330 to be built that week.

Changhai... wonderful... 330 sounds lucky, right?
