December ? Thats hefty - maybe because its a BTO option. i7 is BTO

i think its a combination of the 4850 and the quad core chips, but the GPU seems to be the one that has less availability.

if you configure the base 27" and upgrade to the 4850, shipping goes from 3-5 days to 4-6 weeks. then configure the top end 27" and its "november".

I live in Hong Kong, and knowing that these things are assembled at the Foxconn factory about 45 minute drive from here (in Shenzhen) is killing me. I just hope they don't have to go to a centralized location in the US before being distributed worldwide... hell, I'd like to pop up there and pick mine up in person!
Hahaha! :D;)
I'm going mad waiting, I might just get the C2D version so I don't have to wait!
Really? Don't think the few weeks of waiting is worth the better computer for next few years?
Probably my 2-year-old daughter. Highly unlikely it's connected with any Apple products shipping, though...
LOL!:)
This has been brought up so many times, he most likely changed the processor name on his computer. You can do that.

Apple Canada rep refused to speculate when I phoned today (fair enough, if they don't know, better to not mislead customers).

Didn't offer upgraded shipping, either... :(

All this talk of upgraded shipping, i've never seen this option when ordering from Apple. Is it only available to certain countries i.e. Canada and the States?

My guess it that it's not available.

Just a few Apple reps doing a good thing.

Once people start reading this all over the
Internet and call Apple in droves they will
probably pull the plug on the upgrade.

Just a guess.

extra shipping time?

Maybe. But Apple ships directly from the factory. Don't see this adding weeks to the time, maybe a day or two. FedEx can go west just as fast as they can go east. It is probably the same distance to Amsterdam than it is to LA from China.

I have ordered my imac 27'' i5 today here in poland... i was told that i can expect my machine in mid november... the guy said that they will ship it in probaly 2 weeks...

fair enough. have you ever had a product shipped to Holland though? thats what i thought :p we both have no idea how long that would take.

Your point is?

It's not a question of shipping taking longer, we're talking about the ship date being on 12/1, not delivery date. The point is some orders from other countries are getting specific ship dates (for the time being), but they're on a different system, with different country kits, so it offers little insight into when the Quad-Cores will be shipping to USA buyers.

A forseeable additional problem for
those like myself who signed up for
the financing plan..

I believe that anyone who signed up
for the 12 month no interest Visa card
may only have 30 days to make the
purchase.

Now I could be wrong about this, but
I thought I read that.

This means that if you preordered your
i7 and i5 in late October and applied for
the Visa card, something needs to be
charged to that card within 30 days for
the offer to be applicable.

Again, I could be wrong but something
to be looked into.

Personally, I don't anticipate a December
delivery.

Actually, it might add quite a bit to the shipping time. Apple tends to ship crates of hardware with identical specs together. For example, when my previous iMac (G5) shipped, it shipped together with a whole bunch of other iMacs with the same specs, all traveling the same convoluted route to Canada. Similarly, my first MacBook also shipped with a whole bunch of identical machines destined for Canada. In both cases, the model was either a higher-end model or the specs were upgraded. So, a buyer from Amsterdam might have a slightly longer wait for an iMac to ship with similarly spec'd machines also going to the Netherlands.

I believe that is the second time we've seen someone mention a shipping date for december.

However, both of them are from countries outside of the U.S.

Also, a December ship date would make sense if you ordered yours this week, when everyone else ordered earlier in October.

Then again, maybe i5s mid november, i7s at the end of november, but I doubt this highly.

Either which way, after doing some thinking about this, I've come to the conclusion Apple doesn't have a definite date they're shipping these out...yet. If they did, they would update our shipping status so we would stop harassing their reps about it. They can't do an "estimated" shipping date because if it got pushed back everyone (ie most people, I know some people on here like to present themselves on here like they've never been angry or upset in their entire life) would be up in arms about it.

So, you can draw the conclusion from my above conclusion that something is affecting Apple's certainty about having a definite shipping date... Is it the 4850? Are the i5s/i7s causing too much heat? The screen issues? The Flash problems? Or something else? It's anyone's guess.

Finally a well thought out response. We will just have to sit and wait patiently.

Got my Time Capsule!

Now if only I had my new iMac to set it up with... little brother got the 20 for school, mom has her MacBook, and now I've got a 2TB Time Capsule and no Mac to use it with! Stuck with the work machine.

Come on Apple - I put in the big 16GB unit order, ship my machine!

You know, I went overboard with having
8GB of memory put in my iMac. I thought
perhaps it was overkill.

However, I run with a lot of programs
at startup, due a lot of multitasking and
run Windows via Parallels or Fusion.

I would be interested to know why
someone needs 16GB of ram in their
iMac. I can't see any advancements
in the next few years that would cause
a person to need that much memory.

I routinely use 16GB, and often quite a bit more at work. I sometimes try to do work here at home, but end up having to use the machines back at work, which can be a pain w/ firewall & VPN issues. It'd be nice to have that sort of RAM here at home.

That being said, I don't have the cash to spend on such things so it's all academic :)

Well I certainly CAN see the reason for a lot of memory. Trying to edit full HD raw video files and having to work with photoshop files as big as 1GB quite often there definitely is need for a lot of memory and with a new Final Cut Studio around the corner and the new CS5 studio coming out next year and being re-written from the ground up to work with 64-bit, big memory, multi-core systems this is a good investment for some. If you use your iMac for iPhoto & blogging then 16GB RAM is an absolute overkill but for pro editting and if you have the money to burn... why the hell not!

What programs are you running that need 16gigs of ram? Just wondering.

...and by the way. Not insulting anyone
here. Just curious. I mean, I can't see
any program -- even CS5 -- that would
demand 16GB of ram even under multitask
situations.

But then again, I have never done any
of the work some of you are planning to
do.
