I am placing an order for the i7 on Friday
And how much ram is a good amount to have? I cannot imagine needing more than 8GB of ram to use any Adobe CS4 programs all at once...

are you a heavy CS4 person? Because 4gb would be perfectly fine for more than most people.
but if you want to bump it up to 8gb, I would recommend getting the other from from a 3rd party vendor and save your self about $100

Recession? What?

If only more companies in the US of A could get people excited to buy their products when they didn't have enough money to or weren't planning on it, we'd probably get out of this mess sooner rather than later.

KEEP SPENDING!

...

I have a feeling that if you release a tablet, 6/12 core Mac Pros and 4 core MBPs by Q1 2010, you'll only do more to help it.

LOL - so very true. Every time I spend more than I expected.... I just tell everyone "hey, I don't have a spending disorder - I'm patriotic! How have you been helping the economy?"

OR... maybe it would just mean that more people would be living above their limits and taking out even more loans for stuff. It could go either way ;)

Yeah... I usually buy ram from crucial. But I was going to order the iMac with the 2TB hard drive... I upgraded my current iMac but will be a little afraid to mess around with the larger display...

So I paid for the imac about 3 days ago via bank transfer (not credit card) and it still shows "to be judged" (translated). Is it normal to take this long for them to update their shipping status page with confirmation that they received the cash?

Edit: Nevermind, ten minutes after I posted this I finally received the email.. figures :)

Took me 4 days to get a confirmation and I was a bit anxious. When I bought it from the apple store I got a reference number but when I tried to put that in the reference number box in my "internet bank"* it said the number was invalid. So I had to put the number in the text field and hope for the best. Luckily all went well tho and apple got my reference number.

*not a native english speaker so apologies for not knowing the proper term

FWIW, I just gave in to temptation and rang Apple to ask for an update on shipping and the chap I was talking to said "end-of-November" though "it could be earlier" and added that he had seen some orders marked as prepared for shipment. Take that as you will.

"It is already happening"

Just phoned about getting an update on the shipping date of my i7. Was told they didn't know yet and that my expedited shipping would be free.

Can everyone just be patient and chill out? I ordered one too but complaining all day isn't going to help speed the process.

I just ordered my 27" now.

2.8GHz i7
16GB RAM
2TB HDD

Shipping date is listed as "November". Most likely, that means late November to early December. It's going to be a long wait... O_O

I just called Apple to "check in" about my order. The agent I talked to had no idea when the i7's will ship.

That's not really why I called. I called to get bumped up to 2 day shipping! Which she was glad to do! HA, HA!

Is everyone purchasing these on a credit card or something? :D

Im scraping my pennies together for an i5 so wish I could afford the i7, Definately wouldn't be able to afford either if it wasn't for my gf's Uni discount!

A lot of you guys went for the i7s. I ordered the i5. Now I am recontemplating :-S. Im getting tired of the lagginess of my 2.4 ghz iMac...will i notice a diff between the i5 and the i7?

Btw, Apple rep told me that the holdup is because of the 4850s and that they knew about this well ahead of lauch but wanted to get at least something out the door. When I asked why, he said it was due to the lauch of Windows' new OS. Figures...Anyway, that notice that the apple employees in middle east and africa got, the guys here in North America didn't get anything of that sort.

I still have my hopes high.

I just called Apple and they say nothing is shipping until the 25th

That means i will not be getting mine this month but more likely dec:(

This blows.

Ordered on November 2nd

I am replacing the old white 24" 3GB with a 27", i7, 8GB, with 2TB.

Everyday I check and it says "Not yet shipped".

I did get the email for the survey. Why would they even include questions about shipping, they should already know what everyone will say.

One has shipped????

I called Apple just now and was told by the rep that she has seen one ordeer with a shipping date, but she did not tell me what the date was. She indicated the demand was very high and could not give me a date. She indicated that the units will be coming into the US and will be shipped the next day to fill orders. I asked about the shipping cost but she did not upgrade my order from Standard shipping. Really doesn't matter to me because if they ship from China I get things in 2-3 days... if from CA it still only take a few days to NV.

Oh well... read on, and on, and on...................

that is awesome

i just put an order for the i7 27in, lets see what apple says about shipping date

You do realize that the screenshot was a joke, I had a talk with one of those self-learning AI online bots and after asking about machines taking over the world I asked about the quad iMac shipping date :D

At Least It's Something . . .

Bad News Guys. After hounding apple stores and 1800myapple I finally got a fairly conclusive answer. I told them I needed to know for business so I wouldn't be out of town and the rep put me on hold for at least 5 min. She finally came back and told me her supervisors looked deeper into the system on my order and that it would not be shipping until . . . Nov 25th . I asked her if they were sure and she said that due to the high volume they would be taking a while to get out but since I had next day shipping (for free), that I would receive it on the 26th. I ordered mine about 3 hours after the store reopened. Its an i7, 2TB HD, with 4GB RAM. This sucks as I WILL be outta town when this arrives.

At least I finally got a non-convoluted answer. : D

I am glad that mine hasn't shipped yet. I was reading through some posts and one of them reminded me that I should get an educational discount.

I called and now my iMac is $177.79 cheaper.

Of course 11/26 is Thanksgiving Day... I don't think anything will be happening that week.

The 25th is the date they assigned to my new remote from the very beginning, projected to arrive Dec. 2., though the CPU still just says November.
