Thanks. My shipping method says "Priority". Is that normal for folks?

I'm a bit perplexed because I have a unique situation. Apple is replacing my old iMac with a new 27" under AppleCare and I paid the upcharge from base to i7. When I talked to someone there after the order was placed on 11/28, they said in such a case it would be overnight shipping. But IDK where the heck it would come from, etc.

Is it happening folks? Cuz of the credit card charging today?

So umm, my credit card was just charged for the total of my 27" imac i7. I ordered mine 5 min after the website went back up on the 20th I believe. This definitely must mean they are shipping this week. They do not charge unless an order is being shipped. I'm excited!!!

it's kind of funny... here we are trying to guess stuff from the most little detail and counting days for something to move...

I wonder if anyone at Apple involved with the 27 incher distribution reads this, it must be stressing to watch all this going on without being able to say a word! Or maybe funny?! lol

If I understand correctly, they charge you when you first order to see if you have the money and then put it back. And then they charge you again usually 24 hours before it ships, but I could be wrong.

Either you or someone else said that earlier in the thread as well. Here's my take on this:

Background info: I'm from Canada, and any Visa or Mastercard is a CREDIT CARD. I lived in the States for a while, so I know you guys have DEBIT Visa cards as well, and I don't know if what I will describe below will also apply to these debit Visas, but I'm pretty sure it's the same.

Lets say you place an order on 10/20 for $2,000. Your credit card limit or bank account has $3,000 when Apple "takes out money to check" on 10/20 or 10/21... Great! But, between 10/21 and 11/06, you buy $1500 worth of stuff, so now you only have $1,500. When on 11/06 Apple tries to charge you $2,000, you don't have the money.

So what's the point of charging you a while in advance to check, when account conditions change all the time? This is especially true with businesses. A business with high cash flow can have $10,000 today in the morning, $500 in the afternoon, and before they close at 6pm, they can have $32,000. So the whole charging to check idea doesn't make sense. I wouldn't be shocked to see them start shipping soon, since people have been charged.

However, it may take a while before all orders are fulfilled and retailers get computers in stock. Just because they are shipping now doesn't mean they are going to continue shipping continuously.

It may be insightful for those whose credit cards have been charged to list what they ordered: i5 or i7? Any other option upgrades, ram or HD?

Well, with these comments of cards being charged I finally went ahead and placed my order for an i7 + printer. Hopefully there's enough of them to go around, and that I can actually get one without too much delay!

My credit card was just charged and I ordered the 27" i7 - 1TB, 8 GB ram, ATI 4850 a few min after the site went back up. I must have been one of the first to order? Who knows, I just hope it means Ill be getting this computer by Mon.

OK - Historically, would this indicate shipping tomorrow? Or do they charge and let it ride 2-3 days before shipping? In the past, how close do they ship post card charge?

BTW- Is it definite that the apple stores won't carry the i7? There's something really nice about walking out of the store with a new toy.

yeah, I'm 100% sure they won't carry them.
I've asked various Apple reps (in-stores and over chat) about what type of customizations I can order with the iMac...and they said none - only base models would be available in stores. They also told me that the most they can do is install extra RAM they day I purchase if I purchased that in a separate order.
Bottom line: no i7 and no 2TB HDD unless you order on-line

many companies do this. many times they will leave a $1 "hold" on the CC.
Lets wait and see if the full c charge is still there tomorrow, because Apple (as most companies) do not charge you until the item is shipped/right before it ships

arg... I'm actually considering this now.
because they are going to fill all the pre-orders before retail stores see anything.
I actually just want a base i5, but if I order on-line...I might as well pay the extra $180 for the i7 (with student discount). hhm... we'll see if I make a large impulse buy tonight or not lol

If you're REALLY lucky and it leaves China later today you could see it next Tuesday. I say this based on the Time Capsule and remote I just ordered.

This is all assuming that they will have the system ready to ship today. It's about 12:20pm Friday so there are still a few more hours left in their day (+13 ET).

Well for those in doubt that we may be receiving our macs this week now that our credit cards have been charged... I already had ordered a fully loaded 24" imac before the 27" came out. I had it in my home and when my credit card was charged the first time, it ment the order was placed for shipment. I returned that unopened 24" box the day I ordered the new 27". So I am very optimistic about it being delivered very soon. Also, they upgraded me to rush shipping the day I ordered on the 20th because of the inconvenience of me purchasing the 24" imac.

I wonder if it has to do with location. I live in the midwest and ordered an i7 with a fullsize keyboard on the 20th. I was charged when I ordered but it fell off and I haven't been charged today. Guess that means that I won't be in the first shipment. :(

*sigh* I'm still waiting for my bank to unblock my credit card and take all the holds off the money on it, which they did the first time I tried to make a major online purchase on it a week ago. They say ring them back tomorrow and they might be able to take the holds off, only then will I even be able to think about ordering my i7, who knows how long until I get it! There's probably thousands of orders in ahead of mine

Yipes. Tuesday huh? I was told I had overnight shipping but I can't imagine it can get to the midwest from China that fast. We are sure they are coming direct from China?

New Info>>>

I ordered my i7 imac on the morning of the 20th and used a regular credit card for it, card was just charged TODAY but my shipping status hasn't changed...

DOES that mean anything?? Why wait until now to charge it unless something is happening? Any theories? Actually, now that I think about it, it is a debit card but like I said, they just now put a charge on it? I had heard about other people being charged and then taken off but why wait until now?

if it does mean stuff, your status will be changed in the next day i bet.

I ordered 5:33pm PST on Oct 20....i7, 2tb hdd, 8gb of ram. My card has not been charged yet.

Just to give you an idea of shipping times, I'm in New Jersey, on the East Coast (right by Philly). Along with "the beast", I ordered an iPod classic and the remote.

The iPod shipped out from Shanghai Oct 22nd, Thursday, and was delivered Oct 26th, Monday. This was billed October 23rd.

The remote was shipped from Shenzen Oct 30th, Friday, and was delivered Monday, Nov 2nd. This was billed to my credit card November 2nd.

So in my opinion, they are probably shipping out.

Don't get your hopes up too high though. It could be that Apple is making sure the money is still there....or it could be the card's policy for Apple to check...maybe? I don't know. Hopefully I check tomorrow morning and I at least have a ship date!

OHHH man! my card has been charged as well!
