Not really - what he doesn't realise is that charge is most likely the bog standard holding charge that will get put back onto his card in a day or so.

PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE.....

...that I sorely lack.

I had that charge the day or so after I ordered. Which was now 15 odd days ago

My 27" i7 with 8Gb Ram & 2Tb HD is still showing a prospective shipping date of November 27th and a delivery date of December 8th. Only TNT could take 11 days to ship a box from Holland to Spain. Boo, I say. Hiss!

From Holland? Is that where the imacs are being sent from? (in europe)

oftheheavens, why do you think it takes a week to be shipped to Japan?

It's supposed to come from easter China... quite possibly from Shenzen/Shanghai, so it'd be landing sooner in Japan than the US, wouldn't it?

2 reasons.

first and foremost is the fact that I am stationed in Japan and have an FPO box which apple does not deliver to. BUT they do give me a 17% deployed military discount through a company called APOBox.com that caters to deployed military and diplomats. So here is how it works; I order from apple and give them the address that APOBox issued me. They ship it to APOBox. Then APOBox slaps a new sticker, and insurance on it and sends it to my FPO box address.

2 reason: Apple distribution is in the states.

Also to add note to this;

I went to the apple store in hiroshima today and asked about the quad cores and the lady said (note that my japanese isn't the best) that the quads weren't coming to the store till 12/20/2009 and that the japanese online store was shipping the same day to be in time for x-mas. Hope that doesn't effect us, although there has to be something going on due to the fact that all the early buyers are just now getting their charges and they aren't for 1$ but for the price of there mac.

P.S.S.- The 27" that they did have looks amazing. Still wish that it looked exactly like the apple 30" monitor (or whatever size) that doesn't have a chin at all because that was right next to the 27" and looked way better! Still the 27" is beautiful!

Well I already got my 4 extra gigs of ram, just no iMac yet :(

Also, was kind of surprised the new ram is so tiny. I've only ever seen the older ram which is pretty big. These are like tiny lil' slices. Well, neat, I guess.

I stand corrected!

If apple is just randomly charging 2207$ to my card and allowing it to go from pending to approved and effecting my balance we will have some words...

what if someone was to have bills pending and were rejected due to apple "checking" to see if you had money. The normal procedure for companies is to charge 1$ to make sure that the account is still active. Anyways..

Well, in my case I'm based in Tokyo and use a normal shipping address. In my previous experiences with the online Apple Store they shipped directly from the factory to Madrid, in Spain, going through Apple's distribution hub that yes, is placed somewhere in Holland (that is, let's say, the european version of the american Anchorage in Apple Shipping terms). It took like 3 days from Shanghai to Madrid... my guess was that this time it'd be in Japan sooner but well I'll let everybody know when my 'status' starts changing from 'Not Yet Shipped' to something I can track :)

And yes, the design of the 27 incher is great but I wish it was all screen and only screen... reaching to a thin border. That'd make it perfect! :D

Well hopefully this will mean we will have some meaningful stats on the performance differences between the i5 and i7 instead of the guessing based on what PCs do with them.

I had a £1600ish less credit available on my card the day I after I bought it (21st Oct). This then seemed to disappear the next day and I had my full amount of credit availabe so it looks like they do some sort of 'checking charge' to make sure funds are there.

yeah they did the same to me as well..

I paid for the mac with a CC and then did a transfer from my bank to my CC and now I am £1800 in credit with my CC company now..

as others have stated, I don't see the point in this due to the fact that the day they take it back people can go max their cards and then not have funds...

I agree but I guess it's a standard procedure in place that serves it's purpose 99% of the time when there isn't going to be a one month wait for stock to ship.

yeah i guess, you would think that apple would wait though. Another thing that weirds me out is the fact that it only charged my card, this time, for the mac itself. I got the remote and apple care on separate charges. I dunno it is getting late here and I will just have to wait and see tomorrow.

I placed my order via the Uk HE website and the order shows 9.51am PST on Oct 20th.

Apple have taken a pre-authorisation twice from my card now, and they seem to cancel and re-order items such as remote.

What is funny today is that the option to cancel items is no longer allowing me to press it or remove/change items?

My order did show a delivery between 6-9 Nov but this changed a few days later back to Nov.

I am not really fussed if they are having issues with supply my worries are if they are having issues with the performance or are these orders ready and waiting but needing the next SL update?

When you pre-order something, the amount due is reserved, your balance remains the same until the goods are sent, then the money are transferred, though the amount at your disposal gets smaller instantly after you have placed your order.
It's a safety measure, the company you buy the goods from can count on you don't spend the money. It also makes things a lot easier should you cancel your order, then the company doesn't have to transfer back the money and so on

yeah my imac is still showing november as the ship date. BUT, I cannot cancel the imac and I cannot add a 'gift message'. I still can for the remote which has not shipped

Now thats what I am talking about. This, in my experience, usually means that its being prepared for shipment.

My 'cancel items' button is still showing. I ordered on the 29th via the UK HE store as well.

Has anyone called a service rep at their credit card company to see if these are authorization holds or actual charges? The CC online managements sites do not (usually) distinguish, but a rep can tell you.

Ordered an i7, 8GB, 2TB on the 20th via debit card, and I'm in the US.

My bank shows two separate listings for "posted transactions" versus "pending transactions". Back on 10/20 there were two "Pending" transactions -- a $182 for AppleCare and a $1 for the iMac itself (presumably).

With a couple days the AppleCare transaction cleared into "posted" and the $1 charge disappeared. Sometime within the last 15 hours or so a new "Pending" transaction appeared for the full remaining amount. We'll see if this posts today or not, but for now it's just an authorization.

Yep, I think all Apple Store orders ship from the Netherlands in Europe :) All my orders have originated there, MacBook, several iPods, AppleCare, Snow Leopard + iWork + iLife bundle, Airport Express...

I live in Sweden, and it usually takes about 2-3 work days from shipping till I have it here.

i7 and remote ordered this morning...

So I ordered the i7 with the 2TB hard drive option an hour ago...
Says the iMac is shipping in November and the remote I ordered says "ships Nov 23" and "delivers Dec 1"
