Video card...

Did someone post this already?

When you configure the base model of the 27'' with the ATI Radeon 4850... the shipment date jumps from 3-5 days to november. Is this the item holding everyone's orders up?

CORRECTION - someone did post this ... sorry... disregard

I'm from Canada too. I just called them again as I wanted to add a printer to my order. I asked if they had any more info on the shipping for my i7 but was told they don't have any information. :( I ordered my i7 on Oct 20th.

So I just got off the phone with an Apple rep about the money being taken from my credit card. I'm from Canada and he said that it ment that the computer was being prepared for shipment but that they were just waiting for the 2-3 day clear time to go through. So I called my credit card company and they said it would clear for Apple by tomorrow. The rep also said to keep checking my status of my order and that it was most likely to change by Mon-Tues. Hopefully this means its being shipped next week.

That would be awesome! Means mine would not be too far behind yours!

I called my credit card company. There is a pending order from Apple dated November 5. However, when I called Apple, they did not have any updated information available.

I almost had a heart attack just now...

Just got an "Your order has been shipped" E-mail from Apple.

But, it was for my Apple remote and VESA wall mount kit for the 27" iMac.

That order has been saying "Shipping: 25th Nov - Delivery: 1st Dec" from day one and now suddenly it's been shipped!

So I guess Apple can suddenly surprise you and send an order out a month before the suspected delivery time :)

EDIT:

The online order status for the above order now states:

Shipped on: Nov 6, 2009
Estimated Delivery: 01 Dec, 2009

That can't be right... I know Post Danmark (the Danish post company) can be pretty slow, but not THAT slow :)

So I ordered on the 27th. The next day I had the hold on my card, that was then removed. Today, I have the actual pending transaction (they already charged me and processed payment for the remote and the Apple Care). Don't know what this means, but I think it indicates that shipping is soon.

I ordered the i7, base RAM (I'll add another 4GB myself).

Imaginary iMac

So I ordered a 27" i7 w/ 8GBs of RAM the 5th of November with a dual male mini display cable. Today I got a shipment notification from Apple saying that my order was shipping. So naturally I got excited and was gonna hop on here and tell everyone when I discovered that it was only the cable. So the cable will be here by the 10th. My plan is to sit at an empty desk with my display cable hooked up to my Mac Mini and the other end to my imaginary i7 iMac and play iMac for the rest of the month. It's gonna be so cool to edit video and play WoW for the rest of the month on my imaginary iMac. By the time the real thing gets here I'll be burnt out.

Maybe Apple just want to be sure that nobody can complain about delivery.
I think they just opened a big time frame to equal delivery delays of vendors or manufacturing delays.
.

Well...yes...setting such a poor standard of expected delivery (up to 41 days, provided they respect it, otherwise even more) with no additional information definitively gives you no reason to complain :D

on a second thought, order only says "november", maybe it's november 2010 (the year is not stated anyplace) just to make sure apple has removed any right whatsoever for you to complain.

many peddle the argument that if you can't stand the heat (not iMac's clearly)...you can cancel. True but that does not make the laggards any less slow.

for what its worth I've called apple twice and gotten this:

the first time they told me it was indeed due to shortages in in the 4850's and the *rumor* inside Apple is that they wouldn't begin to ship until the end of November.

second time I called (today) they told me again that the *rumor* was end of November, but said that my card had been charged, and per Apple processes, that means it is shipping soon (within the next few days), but she said she couldn't confirm that

i live in US, ordered (i7, 8GB, 1TB) on Oct 21st, and I also have not seen the iMac be cancelled and re-added to my order as some have reported...

Has anyone in the USA had their order cancelled and re-added? Seems like most of the posts stating that happened are from other countries.

Card Charged

I am among those who also have a large pending charge on the ole CC.

Who knows what to make of that, but seems positive...

The is my first plunge into Macs.....looking forward

The forbidden :apple: tastes so sweet......

I have had no change yet. Still says November and I still can cancel (ordered October 20th).

That is correct. Apple will put a hold on your credit card for the amount of the purchase. You are not actually charged until the actual payment to Apple is processed. This is done so that you will not overcharge on your credit card. The credit card company just reduces the credit limit by the amount of the hold.

Probably makes no sense..........:confused::confused::confused::confused:

You're probably right, but usually holds are token amounts and not the full meal deal....but what do I know....probably deluded and aspirational hopes are clouding my thinking....;)

If apple is just randomly charging 2207$ to my card and allowing it to go from pending to approved and effecting my balance we will have some words...

what if someone was to have bills pending and were rejected due to apple "checking" to see if you had money. The normal procedure for companies is to charge 1$ to make sure that the account is still active. Anyways..

That's your bank or credit card company, not Apple. Basically, when you make a purchase using the card that amount of credit is "held", i.e. allocated by your bak or credit card company to cover that payment, pending charge. This ensures that when the charge is made that the credit is available to cover it.
It's not specific to Apple, it's just how the credit card system works.:)

12 mos same cash financing deal - Heads Up

For those buying with the Barclay 12mos same as cash deal - I called Apple to ask if the computer was delayed over 30 days from the original order date, would Barclays claim that I didn't fulfill the terms of the 0% offer and charge me 20%. The rep called Barclays, who told her that they would have no way of knowing that the order was placed before the 30d expired - so if the iMac was shipped and charged >30d after the day the card was opened, I could potentially be liable for the 20% financing. She did advise me to call Apple if the computer ships/charges after 30 days and have them call Barclays to have the 0% deal reset.

The rep did say she really doubts it will not ship before the end of the month (for what it's worth).

Long story short -- keep on top of the card if your 30 days winds up. Potential major headache.

Ordered on the 29th of Oct, and Apple took the full amount the following day (30th). Cancel button still remains as an option

p.s. I ordered the core i5

I have exactly the same scenario. Money out and still no iMac :( and I ordered the Quad Core i7. and I am as well from Scotland, where a brand new Apple Store just opened a few days ago.

I called apple today and and spoke with a lovely customer support agent. She said my credit card had the full amount put on hold, however she said Apple could hold the funds for 2 weeks. If it didn't charge by then it would be refunded and the process would start over when it was ready to ship.

She also mentioned that she's never seen it really go beyond a week for the hold to convert into a charge. She said her best guess (from 3 years customer support) was that it was likely my machine would ship out in the next week.

I asked if I could pay for overnight shipping and she mentioned it was not available for me in California, since the unit was coming directly from China. She gave me free 2 day express shipping though which was nice. I had previously paid for it, so she reimbursed it which was a very nice offer.

My sense is that units are shipping out soon, coming directly from China. Fingers crossed!!!!

p.s. I had ordered my machine at 10:25am Oct 20th. I place my order for a iMac i7 w/8gb ram and 2 TB drive. I've already received my new remote .

Well, I think i'll survive for this weekend as i've just got a 'dispatched' email for my Apple remote :D.

This is very strange, only yesterday was my remote scheduled to be delivered on the 3rd of December 2009. In a matter of hours, its already shipped and got all the tracking info for TNT.

I hope the same goes with these iMacs.

Good luck with TNT. They have "lost" 3 computers for me in the past on separate occasions which had to be replaced by Apple. I think every member of the TNT staff must have a shiny new Mac in their houses.
Hopefully they can manage your remote though.:)

Apple are holding the amount for my iMac, but the transaction date comes up as Nov. 9th (Monday) in my online banking.

Robotkiller,

I got an entirely different story and I need
to find out which is right.

I had the same concerns and called both
Apple and Barclay.

Both said that there is an "authorization charge"
on my card meaning that Apple checked to make
certain I had the funds.

Both said as long as the order remains the same
and that charge is fulfilled without any changes
then I am fine should the iMac be shipped 30 days
after I opened the account.

I am concerned, however, by your scenerio.

I too had an authorization charge, but this has since lapsed. I do not trust credit card companies, so I would take nothing for granted and remain proactive about this.
