I had just gotten of the phone with Gilbert from Apple. I have a little issue with my debit card and it's "limit". I went to the bank the day I ordered but they only gave me a temporary window that last until 4 o'clock today but ofcourse Apple hasn't taken out my money yet, so, I called Apple to see if they would go ahead and charge my debit in advance so I didn't have to mess with the bank. The Apple guy spoke with his boss and said they couldn't because they weren't given "authorization" yet. I hope this doesn't put me farther behind on the list of getting my core i7 :(

You people worry too much.....

Apple will not charge your card until shipped. I went through this back in April when the 24" 4850 was delayed for a month. In the end, it shipped exactly as Apple said it would and my card was not charged until it shipped....

So take your mind off this and take a look at these great pictures of Mars. Pretty darn :cool::cool:

I ordered an i5 stock iMac on the 20th direct from Apple for delivery here in CA. It still shows that it ships "November" No charge on card. No pre-authorization on card. Waiting...

Robotkiller,

How could your time lapse already when the
iMacs did not go on sale until late October?

Just need to know the details of what happened
to you before I contact Apple.

Thanks

It has not lapsed yet (won't lapse until the 26th).

Just thinking ahead - don't want to be caught without being prepared.

Im going crazy with all this waiting! Im following this thread since its start... im like a zombie in front of my tv (on my ps3 that im using as my computer while waiting for my imac ) and my iphone whos never been used that much since i have it! just **** update the shipping date so i can finally relax a bit! everyday i tell myself it could THE day and finish deceived . there always clues of imminent shipment but doesnt happen! im exhausted but will wait as i dont have any other good choices!

I'll call Apple now. But Barclay Visa told you that
Apple needed to reset the date of the purchase or
if it lapses they will charge you the interest?

I ordered my i5 imac just now, this will be my first apple computer. I'm excited and hope they ship soon.

i5 - American Express

Los Angeles checking in...
Ordered i5 on 10/22 -- only upgrade was 2TB HD.
Charge does not show on my American Express card online but I just called Amex to check and it's gone through...real charge, not authorization. Will be reflected online tomorrow. These Macs are packing their bags and getting ready for a plane ride...

Tristan from Apple phone support just told me that they are waiting on the 4850 cards from ATI. He informed me that any shipping dates are speculation but that the 4850s are definitely the hold up because he has hard information on that.

what a nice fellow!! i bet apple is so angry over the wait dates.

I wonder why Apple uses graphics card from ATI.
In this case ATI isn't actually able to serve Apple their requested GPU's.

I don't know why Apple isn't using NVIDIA GPU's for iMacs anymore, because the new MacBooks are also supported by NVIDIA 9400M graphic cards.

ATI is owned by AMD - AMD is a competitor of Intel.
I don't like AMD or ATI, I don't know.

I think that AMD/ATI and Intel are a bad match.

What's your opinion?

completely agree with you! nvidia would much better and able to serve apple

If you paid with a debit card linked to your checking account (like I did):

My debit card won't accept transactions of more than $1500 (my i7, 2tb hdd, 8mb of ram = more). So Apple tried to charge my card last night, then sent me an e-mail that there was a problem. So, I flew to my bank (in my car) and signed a form saying that I authorize $3500 to be charged at any time to the card over the next week--only catch is it's not gonna be authorized to accept the big charge until sometime tomorrow.

I then came home, called Apple, talked to Margaret, sweet girl, and found out that they apparently just keep trying your card over and over again until it goes through. So, my card should be charged soon. I just thought I would share this in case anybody else might be having the same problem...

Also, I asked Margaret if she knew when the quadcore iMacs are shipping. I was told that my order just says "November", but since they're charging my card, it shouldn't be long before it ships ;)

I want to grab one of the i7's but I'm not buying until the ship date is clear. I just couldn't make myself to order anything that doesn't have a concrete ship date!

Anyhow, better sooner than later...

I just talked with AX and they received a request from Apple yesterday to authorize a charge for the Quad 17. She indicated that normally when this occurs, the actual charge will usually follow within 24-48 hours. She also said that they will not make a charge before they ship otherwise I could have them (AX) contact Apple for a disputed billings since I had no notice of shipment or delvery. I ordered the stock 17 on 10/23.

It looks to me like the flood gates are about ready to open....:D
