Have you looked at Aomei Backupper? They have a free version (and pay versions as well):

The latest thing I am investigating on my journey towards Windows.

I think this is not too famous. People also use Acronis True Image.

But for me, I always install Windows in one partition. And data in another partition.
Then I use Windows Backup to backup the whole Window system image.
I will keep some different copies for the system images. Once things go wrong, just restore
the suitable one. It takes very little time.

And for data backup, it is much easier. File History may do the jobs.

I am replying on PC too. But you will miss time machine for sure. :D
Windows Backup or File History are not on the same level as OSX.

PS: Once you are using PC, remember to try mechanical keyboard (with cherry key switches).

Timemachine is very easy, yes. Windows has a history system too, works a bit different but does the same basically. I don't use windows backup but a other tool (can't remember the name) still have to set it up properly. Also using greenshot for the better use of making a screenshot like osx.

For the rest, i am trying to adapt in Windows and let go the OSX tricks that works great for OSX, but not in a other os.

I have bought a K65. It took me a week or 2 to getting used with it. Awesome keyboard, lot of extra functions, and led colors.

This seems to be in line with the latest rumors, might happen.
Still, will rMBP come with Kaby Lake? It was also rumored that Apple had ES for some time from Intel.
I'm selling my 13" rMBP and if no nMP is in the horizon I might get a new 15" with the OLED strip. However, there's the question of no Kaby Lake SKU available for the 15" yet, or any for that matter.

At this point I m considering to move to an iMac and setup an crunch number node to run remotely some heavy tasks I build.

I currently have an iMac and was looking at upgrading to the next Mac Pro (if it ever will exist) but i'm not so sure anymore, since i would use the horsepower mostly for encoding and rendering it would be much better to buy a dual socket workstation from HP or Dell (or build my own), for some workloads the Mac Pro is so out of touch/sync with the market.

I hate the design of the iMac though, there is probably alot of people that would want Apple to get rid of the chin (personally i would like to mount the iMac on a VESA mount so i can use it in both portrait and landscape, current iMac with its chin + multiple monitors, yeah it sucks), a 3 monitor setup with an iMac and 2 5K Apple monitors would be awesome if they had a very similar front design and a superslim bezel

But, since our favorite CEO is at the helm at Apple this future is pretty much an impossibility

Yeah, claim the CEO for not implementing fantasy of users.

Some claims on this forum are sometimes beyond ridiculous.
Ooooooooooooor my complaint was rather that the CEO is doing absolutely nothing on the Mac side of things, the state of the Mac and almost all of it peripherals are in a miserable state, if you deny that you are delusional

I'd do a custom build on an X99 - the new 10-Core. You get to choose the hardware you want and can change bits as you need to. You didn't say which apps you use, but I'm assuming they run on PC too from what you've said.

Thats correct, well, i do use some OS X applications like FCPX and Compressor but i will move over to Premiere Pro and Media Encoder, when i do that switch i might as well switch to a non Mac workstation, i'm not in a hurry though so i will wait a couple of months and see whats happening with the Mac Pro

I'm getting to that point too. Have a 6-core nNP, that is 2 1/2 years old and is now beginning to struggle with the number of VM's I run. Looks like I'll be doing a MB, CPU, RAM upgrade on my PC and selling the nMP - still interested in what Apple may do though, just out of curiosity.

http://www.theapplepost.com/apple-reportedly-planning-keynote-24th-october-refresh-mac-line/

Was it posted before? Took it out from Waiting for Skylake Macbook Pro Thread. I know it is clickbait, but... maybe in this rumor there is a little bit of truth however...

21st October is the release date of Battlefield 1. And Rumors in the industry say that there may be AMD event with Vega architecture showcase in it.
I thought the invitation to keynotes was suppose to happen..I mean announcement before keynotes unless it's a private keynote.

October 21 is a short period of time to get the announcement going.

One thing I don't understand about the delay and/or ambiguity about the future of the nMP is the fact that ISV's have to wonder whether it is at all worth the trouble to write applications for the macOS platform. Why target Metal and all the other APIs if the hardware isn't moving forward? I keep getting this bad feeling lately that Apple is just going to drop desktops completely and just focus on laptops and iOS stuff.

Maybe Apple will introduce it in their late October event?

From the article referenced
"... The fact that AMD / RTG plans to launch the card this year, doesn’t mean that they will have too many to sell ...."

Like the Nividia max top end card these would be priced in the stratosphere where the number of buyers are relavively few ( relative to even the narrow confines of the workstation market ) .

Or have an event at Supercomputer show in November. Available couple of months later? Apple has been AMD's biggest PRO customer..

This product is not for AMD's biggest ( volume ) customer. So what is the point of synchronizing with SC Nov. ?

macOS Sierrra supports ARM "Hurricane"

An ARM mac imminent? sure but no that mac you think.

ARM chips are gaining Market among servers very fast, Apple needs both to keep alive its macOS server (h/W orphan, mini's don't account those cans are servers), also Apple needs an Follow on device to replace its loved much needed but crappy Airport Extremme Timemachine, also the NAS market has grown fast and most NAS sells devices Aimed at Mac Users (I own 2 Synology, favorite NAS among Mac users), so I wont strange to see soon an all-new macOS Server running on "ARM Hurricane".

Why not a Macbook Air on ARM?
- simple have you used an ARM based Chromebook yet? let's go try an ARM based Chromebook and find your answer.

Has anyone heard any details about Win10 not supporting Thunderbolt2 properly or at all? As an example on the HP site they state explicitly that you need to run Win7 or Win8.1 for TB2 support.

Apparently Microsoft is throwing their resources into supporting TB3 in Win10.

This is getting better by the minute. Now jumping ship isn't even easy anymore.

Thanks Apple!
