SMAPple orders (singapore) just called me and explained my order has gone missing and they cannot track it.

Thats just awesome news one day before it is meant to ship from shanghai..

GREAT..... one of the many problems with trying to be cheap and having the production line in that country...

Weird

I was lurking around the whirlpool to see if anyone elses order was on the same flight etc (as my status hasnt changed in a few days). I found an i7 obviously on the same flight as mine being delivered to Perth (mine is going to Sydney).

Below are The shipping details of both orders. Any one else on this flight or have any insight on why this is as it is?

Update: Gah just refreshed my shipping and got the same deal as

Maybe they should upgrade our i5's to i7's for the massive fu*k up.

Ok here is the Goss.

If you have ordered an i5 with the 8 gig of ram and the 4850 video card and received it in australia please reply below.

The retail arm of Apple just told me that they have not shipped into australia and are "constrained" until the second week in december.

I have an i5 as part of my order, and no sign of shipment.

Me too. My order has been in Hongkong since saturday too. I called in with TNT and raised an enquiry. I just got a call back and he said that there's a delay in shipment out of HongKong. When I asked the reason he said that the 'Excess Baggage' issue. He also sent another enquiry as to whether it will be in Sydney today. He would update me again once he have the answer.

Well, I got an update, but not a good one by the looks. Like a few others have already posted, I too have been delayed it seems:

How the hell can there be a "connection delay" when it has already been sitting there since Sunday morning? Probably got a massive backlog of iMacs all sitting there and no room to pack them!

Ok people, I have finally had some movement on my order. I finally have "Prepared For Shipment", and the guy at Apple told me it will be here Thursday. So my mission now....lets get Dronus order sorted.

Maybe I can start an online petition for you man?

Mines not.:( At least it's not coming up that it's sitting in Sydney anyway.

Called TNT. She told me that their scanning system was contradicting itself because the information their website was telling me was totally different to the information she had in her system.

Seems to think mine was "released from bond" at 4:05 this afternoon but doesn't know where it went after that but added she doesn't even know if it's really here or still in China!!??

What's the point of a tracking system?

How it is

Ok i did quite a bit of investigation today, and over the past few weeks and here are some interesting bits of information.

Apple has several departments in relation how you and me receive orders.

There is a business department that deal with business orders.
There is an online department which deal with internet orders.
There is a reseller department which deal with resellers.
There is a government department which deal with Government orders.

When the new iMac was released it was done so before it was physically being manufactured. There was a hold up with video cards and CPU's and the relating software (10.6.2).
The Imac was released for order via all of the channels listed above at the same time, taking pre-orders until production started. The shipping status was "Ships: November" for every order.
When production started and Apple were able to start sending out the units they cut over to a different orders database, leaving the preorders on the old one, and the new ones went onto the new one. They started shipping with some inhouse orders, then started on the new database of online orders only. The other ordering channels were put on lower priority while the online orders were filled.
Unfortunately for anyone who was on the preorder list your order didnt even make it to the production facility for fullfillment. Only in the case of you calling up to complain was the order cancelled and recreated in the new queue, taking on the current shipping timeframe. At this stage, shipping was changing to 5-7 days around the world.
Production ramped up and mostly US orders were filled.
Soon after, the shipping time changed to 3-5 days and the US apple stores started to stock various configurations. Overseas orders were trickling though for orders placed after the changeover date.
New orders which had shipping 3-5 days took precedence over the older 5-7 days, and the Ships: November.
Pre-orders were untouched unless complained about, their shipping was still anytime in November. Partner channels like retail and govenment had pretty much no orders released.

Recently as people complain the preorders are being filled, and online orders are taking less than a week to most places in the world, with the occasional shipping bungles here and there. Video and hard drive issues were being reported and fixed. Australian Apple shops start to stock base configurations, and any configurations the account holders have ordered to stock. Reports of the November shipping cut off were fading fast.

Retail outlets (David Jones, JB HIFI, DSE, Myer) etc are currently as i type this not receiving any units. The shipping date was supposed to be the 25th November, but the Retail resellers arm of Apple in Australia (excludes apple stores) is currently not receiving any orders to allow constant supply to the online and apple store orders. This is called order constraint. If you are CTO or BTO forget it, but if you have a base config you could get it shipped if you complained to the right people. Most retail resellers insist you go BTO when you order so not many were getting out.

Bottom line is.

If you ordered through the online apple shop and your status still shows "not yet shipped" call apple orders support on 133 622, option 1,2,1 and give them your W order number. They will be able to move your order over to "the new system" and you should be on your happy way. This might involve cancelling your current order and reordering.

If you ordered though a business or educaition account, call your account manager and your order can be either made, or shipped from stock allready in Australia (Sydney).

If you ordered from a retail shop that does not yet have stock you are up shi* creek without a paddle. With the current demand our orders will not ship from Shanghai until an estimated second week in December, arriving with any luck on your door step in the 3rd week of December. This is at current demand rates, and can slip either way. Cancelling and placing another order with the reseller will not help. Reordering though the online shop probably will. Hounding the retail store to put pressure on their apple account manager is probably the best thing to do.

I have talked to many people at Apple in Australia, Singapore and USA, and most areas are isolatated and cannot cross boundaries. The Orders help number has been instructed to not give any information to customers who didnt order via the apple online shop. They now insist that you contact the retail store for information which, chances are, they dont have.

This is a very annoying situation for anyone who has ordered via the resellers, and for the resellers themselves as people get pissed off and cancel their orders to order directly online. The lack of communication, and the unfair dropping of the preorders will have consequences that have not yet been felt in the media.

I personally preordered through a reseller so i am double screwed.

I Hope this is of some entertainment or information.

Dronus mate I feel for you. I had really hoped that we would both receive our "Prepared For Shipping" status changes on the same day and be on the same flight. I think it is very very piss poor that you might still be weeks away from getting your machine.

I still think it might be worth your while to see if you can cancel DJ's and order direct off the Apple Store. Looks like DJ's is still a way of getting their stock, but it appears that people ordering online are getting theirs pretty soon. Having said all that, the minute you cancel your order with DJ's, their stock will arrive. That's for certain.

I do feel you have a case for some sort of compensation from Apple. They promised November shipping, and you have not received that. See if you can get past the monkeys on the 133 number, and get put through to Apple Customer Relations, lodge a complaint, and see if they fix you up with some goodies.

I have heard if you can get past the call centre monkeys, and get onto the Customer Relations people, they have the power to do most anything. They are the ones that upgrade people and hand out goodies, to smooth the waters.

You got it! One of the longest waiters.

In about 24hrs you should get an "Apple Store Shipment Notification" email with a tracking number in it.

Yeah finally got it. Thought this day would never come, and the best thing is all my gear is in Sydney, and will be shipping form there on a next day delivery. It ships in the morning.

My heart goes out to Dronus, who is still in the land of "Not Yet Shipped", and by all accounts, is in for another couple of weeks pain.

So here's my experience.

I ordered an i5 though a reseller (Mac1 in Canberra) on 11/11. They were vague about the ETA, but said "should be by the end of November".

Then three days ago (21/11) I got an email from them saying they had an ETA from Apple - first two weeks in December :(

I had just geared up to wait for three more weeks, when I got an email today (24/11) saying it was in, and I could pick it up any time! So I'll be in there tomorrow :D

I don't know what this means for anyone else's order, except maybe that no-one really has a clue...

waiting for quad core 27" iMac-australia - how it is

This is a very annoying situation for anyone who has ordered via the resellers, and for the resellers themselves as people get pissed off and cancel their orders to order directly online. The lack of communication, and the unfair dropping of the preorders will have consequences that have not yet been felt in the media.

Like Dronus states - this is exactly how my order is, having placed it
with Myers in Adelaide on 28 Oct!! for a Quad Core I7.

Many calls to this department store usually result in "there are none in australia at the moment due to vast orders - another 1 - 1½ weeks"

I have considered canceling and re-ordering direct from the Apple Store,
but if I do now, I don't think anything will be achieved timewise.

Very frustrating is'nt it - especially as my Imac G5 sits idle with no vision
due to video card gone "bust"

Late to the party, but i paid for an i7 from Next Byte on Nov 4. They got some standard i5 configs yesterday, but my order is still 'In Process'. So, what dronus wrote sounds about right - the resellers (and their customers) appear to be getting the short end of the stick right now.

On the other hand, it's not really the end of the world. In the grand scheme of things a week here or there isn't really a big deal, right? (please say right, because I'm trying to convince myself as much as anyone that I should be more patient in times like this) :)

You guys still in recovery limbo?

Nah mate, not anymore (for me at least). Oddly enough about 8pm local time I noticed it changed to say it was in Sydney at 4.23pm "in transit". Hopefully it makes it to Adelaide tonight. I doubt I'll see it tomorrow from there where I am but still. Fingers crossed and all that!

Interesting how vsebastian got word straight away his was in Sydney yet mine took about 4 hours to update.

In preparation I pushed the stupid-nothing-but-trouble-PC aside tonight. Theres a nice chunk of desk space just waiting to be filled with 27" iMac-goodness now! :D

It certainly does seem that Apple is shafting the resellers nicely. No one seems to have any. I was in David Jones Brisbane on the weekend, and they had a 27" C2D in display, but when I asked about the i7, I could swear I could hear crickets chirping.

This puts all of you who ordered and were promised November shipping up sh*t creek. Surely compensation is in order?

Hopefully we'll see some major movement overnight! :)
