Yeah finally got it. Thought this day would never come, and the best thing is all my gear is in Sydney, and will be shipping form there on a next day delivery. It ships in the morning.

My heart goes out to Dronus, who is still in the land of "Not Yet Shipped", and by all accounts, is in for another couple of weeks pain.

Yay for you!

And I hope Dronus gets some resolution/happy news soon!

I have heard if you can get past the call centre monkeys, and get onto the Customer Relations people, they have the power to do most anything. They are the ones that upgrade people and hand out goodies, to smooth the waters.

In extreme cases of bad service Steve Jobs himself has been known to answer emails (sjobs@apple.com), however I would probably wait until Dec 1 before trying that.

ha yeh he might only be interested if a complete government department gets screwed over.
My milestones are:

The end of today (25th) which is the date the n00bs on the orders line gave me that my order would ship and status change.

The end of the month when the promised Ships: November expires
The end of the year when its more likely ill receive my computer.

I wont write here my plans who im calling today, but should report back tonight if i get some movement.

The reason why im reluctant to cancel my order is two fold. One it might not help me get a machine any earlier. Two i believe there are cancellation fees involved with DJs.

Anyway, have a good day :) Congrats to everyone getting their machines :)

Looks like today is your day! Congrats!

Like Dronus states - this is exactly how my order is, having placed it
with Myers in Adelaide on 28 Oct!! for a Quad Core I7.

Many calls to this department store usually result in "there are none in australia at the moment due to vast orders - another 1 - 1½ weeks"

I have considered canceling and re-ordering direct from the Apple Store,
but if I do now, I don't think anything will be achieved timewise.

Very frustrating is'nt it - especially as my Imac G5 sits idle with no vision
due to video card gone "bust"

My investigations are showing that DJ's and Myers might share a "buyer" within the retail channel (not yet confirmed). DJ's and Myers are Apple resellers, but order their stock through their buyers to the retail arm of Apple.
Other non_apple_store retailers such as Next Byte and another one i wont mention are currently stocking i5 on the shelf (limited supply, but they are there). They have a different buyer or account manager who has managed to get them stock. The account managers estimate stock levels and almost 'bid' for stock from their channel partners.

If the current "constainment" for the retail channel was true, then it only is affecting certain retailers inside that channel, unless there is a heirachy where the dedicated apple resellers get preference over other stores.

What does that mean to the average Joe? Well, it means that unless the buyer or sales manager for the store that you ordered through goes and puts pressure on their channel partner at apple, nothing will happon until the constrainment is lifted and stock flows through. They estimate this will happon in the second week of december, but with Apple being as nice as they are, they have a global sale coming up THIS FRIDAY which will pump more orders into the system... can you guess what this will do to demand and our order timeframe?

I had an indication yesterday that my order may be sent to the manufacturing facility next week but i have heard enough BS from people at apple to not believe anything unless it is in writing. unfortunately i dont have much in writing!

The average punter cannot really talk directly to the channel partner, they will get directed to talk with the store which you purchased it from. This is probabaly correct as the store should be putting pressure on crapple to fullfill their orders before their customers get narkey and pull the pin. I have spoken to them directly but its more about who you know at that level..

let me know if you hear anything from Myers, id be interested to hear when they get orders flowing in.

Well I almost thought this day would never arrive, but here it is!

Late to the party, but i paid for an i7 from Next Byte on Nov 4. They got some standard i5 configs yesterday, but my order is still 'In Process'. So, what dronus wrote sounds about right - the resellers (and their customers) appear to be getting the short end of the stick right now.

On the other hand, it's not really the end of the world. In the grand scheme of things a week here or there isn't really a big deal, right? (please say right, because I'm trying to convince myself as much as anyone that I should be more patient in times like this) :)

My reseller has given me an order number!
(probably so I'll stop bothering them!)
So now, I can at least monitor the progression of my order which is nice and of course currently it says "Not yet shipped".

I spoke to a friendly chap in Singapore (probably one of the monkeys mentioned in the above post) and he informed me that the order (i7) is being shipped out in a couple of days...arrival next week.

I know, we've all heard it before. I am going to ring him every day until I have a change in status.....

I'll keep you guys posted with any new information.

Are you monitoring the progression online or via phone? If online, what URL can assist?

I hope so.. the apple singapore guys wont have accurate info on reseller orders, best bet is to keep on the retailer to get things moving.

After ringing 133622 quite a few times today and speaking to three different people. (also got 3 different stories)
You're right dronus, they had no information for me what-so-ever, because I had purchased through a reseller.

I managed to obtain a special Apple Reseller phone number out of them.....(They were very hesitant in giving it to me too!)

So I rang the number.
Got the true story.
MID DECEMBER!

and so the wait continues.........

I would have thought Apple would fill the resellers and the Apple stores first, not last. People ordered online, have already ordered, locked in, and don't allow them to cancel. Fill the stores first, get more people buying, that have not already ordered. Then fill the orders for all the people all locked in. Don't get me wrong, I am glad they don't or I would be waiting, but wouldn't you think they would sell more this way?

Maybe not, people will buy when they need to buy I suppose.

Your idea is good, but defeats the purpose of people pre-ordering online. What would the point of someone ordering online only to receive their iMac AFTER the people who just walk into an apple store and buy one?

The shipments should occur at the same time

Update.

I have been speaking with DJ's head office after making an official complaint to the local store.
They contacted Apaull and guess what... same excuse the first time (worldwide shortage), same excuse the second time (Not making the video card) but the third time the truth came out. Apple are aware of DJ's orders but are not filling them until at least early December, no matter when you ordered.
I have explained that the units have been made etc etc but the Purchasing Officer for DJ's and the Account manager at Apple have decided to not ship our orders so that the initial rush of online orders have been filled.

I was given the option to cancel my order and reorder personally through the online store, but there is still the cancellation penalty (I recall 20% being bandied about, ill check my order form tonight.)

I explained that i find this disgusting and very unlike the kind of treatment that i would expect from DJ's, they should be going in hard to get the fastest result for us. They dont make money selling Apple products, they make money by selling you things while you are in the shop, and creating a pleasant shopping experiance. I was considering purchasing a new TV and entertainment sytem when i was going to pick up my Mac, but they have bucklies chance of that happoning now.

Apples behaviour is also terrible. If you are going to constrain retail orders, at least let the customers know, and offer them something to stay onboard. If customers are getting as annoyed as i am about this they might not just goto the online store, they might goto dell, or someone who can give them what they want..

The purchasing and account executives should be very aware the consequences of their inability to get orders for their customers - they wont have any customers!

My advice to anyone considering going to a retail outlet (Read: David Jones) to purchase Apple products, or take up their 'special interest free deals' is to think twice. I thought that by supportig local people working in local jobs at local stores was a good thing, but the way this is panning out you are better off just buying it direct from overseas. The complaints people just believe what they are told and they will not take it any further to get a result for you.

I am not prepared to lump the cancellation fee for the Imac order, so i am going to just wait for the order to come though.

By crikey i will be calling them every day checking for order status's. Wasting their time is bound to cost them more than what this whole saga is worth.
I am also forwarding the official complaint to DJ's head office and board.

The fight isnt over, not until my imac arrives, and then i will never set foot in DJ's again, and let my experiances be known to my networks...

...Oddly enough about 8pm local time I noticed it changed to say it was in Sydney at 4.23pm "in transit". Hopefully it makes it to Adelaide tonight. I doubt I'll see it tomorrow from there where I am but still. Fingers crossed and all that!...

Well it got to Adelaide at 5am today but then stopped moving again. I'm not surprised. Stored in a warehouse until tomorrow apparently. Grrr...

How about people who pre-ordered through the resellers? Surely thse orders should be filled at the same time as the other pre orders?

I have also called this number, it is in Sydney. You are right they dont like you having that number as it is the number that the resellers call to get status updates from apple.
I have it on speed dial now, and DJ's who will recieve at least one call from me every day until the day i pick up my imac.

Hey dronus,

When you called the 1300 number, did you get the same story about mid December?

I am never purchasing from a reseller again!

The resellers are uninformed and absolutely helpless.
Which is very evident with this very messy release of the iMacs.

So here's my experience.

I ordered an i5 though a reseller (Mac1 in Canberra) on 11/11. They were vague about the ETA, but said "should be by the end of November".

Then three days ago (21/11) I got an email from them saying they had an ETA from Apple - first two weeks in December :(

I had just geared up to wait for three more weeks, when I got an email today (24/11) saying it was in, and I could pick it up any time! So I'll be in there tomorrow :D

I don't know what this means for anyone else's order, except maybe that no-one really has a clue...

Hi, New to forum but have been watching since the start.

I am also going to be buying through Mac1 but not in Canberra. Just the Stock i5. Since reading this post i have emailed the guy at Mac1 and have had no reply but i expect one at about 9 in the morning. Can't wait. This will be my first Mac and will be moving from only a 12 month old Toshiba windows vista pc to an Apple iMac 27" i5. All i can say is that it is going to be 27" 's of pure bliss. :D

Hey dronus,

When you called the 1300 number, did you get the same story about mid December?
What did they say?

Yes i got the same constrainment story, shipping second week in december. The lady there sounded like she gave less of a s*#t than the others, which in itself is impressive. Must have been having a bad day/week.

DJ's complaints department started off sounding interested, but after the third time i sent them back to apple they got less and less concerned and basically hung up on me.

I am drafting an official written complaint to lodge with DJ's, and further if i do not get an appropriate resolution. Ill post the contact details for DJ's complaints and board once i have sent it.

This is not fair, and no one gives a crap apart from the consumers.

If Apples objective is to get rid of resellers so that everyone has to buy online, their dream is becoming a reality, no sane person would resell a product that they cannot get in stock for months after it hits the market.

I have heard that mac1 in canberra had stock shipped a few days ago so your milage may vary, at least they can get them in from sydney warehouse quickly if you order a standard model.
