I ordered an i5 with the online store on 23/10/09 - Order No. W5745...

When the benchmarks for the i5/i7 started to come through, I changed my order to the i7 on 12/11/09.

It has taken until this morning for the online status to change from "Ships: November" to "Ships: 5 - 7 business days".

Maybe I will get it before xmas after all...

The average punter cannot really talk directly to the channel partner, they will get directed to talk with the store which you purchased it from. This is probabaly correct as the store should be putting pressure on crapple to fullfill their orders before their customers get narkey and pull the pin. I have spoken to them directly but its more about who you know at that level..

let me know if you hear anything from Myers, id be interested to hear when they get orders flowing in.

To follow up I have spoken to the "ENTERTAINMENT" manager in Myers who contacted Apple only to be told the same old story about too many orders and not enough machines. I tried to explain to him the views you people had gathered about Apple fulfilling on-line orders before dealing with Re-seller orders which he didn't think was correct. I asked him again to speak with Apple and express our dissatisfaction and to report back. So far nothing.
Today I rang the 1300 365 140 number and spoke with a young lady who thought the machines would be shipped about the 2nd week of dec. I voiced my disapproval and asked who to contact re a complaint- go back to the store I purchased thru was the reply- Because I'm not a reseller she couldn't help more but offered to transfer me to the applecare section. I didn't take up the offer but instead rang the on-line store and spoke with some rep in Austin Tx responsible for Apple customers in Australia & New Zealand. I asked if I was to place an order for a quad core i7 machine made to my orders how long would it take before I received it. He assured me that I would get it in about 7 business days time. I explained I already had an order with Myers and received a little discount thru them and may be penalised if I cancelled.
If I was to order direct then he would also give some discount - more or less similar to Myers.

Its quite clear now that Apple, from your observations etc, will mainly deal with on-line orders before any from re-sellers. I pointed out that I ordered mine on 28-10 at a time when apple's online store was saying shipping in November. Since then its come down to 7-10 business days and now 5-7 days.

I find all this very annoying and will think more carefully before ordering again.

meantime, like others before me, I will continue to phone to the point of annoyance until I get some firm news.

Unless he speaks with Myers purchasing team who give him the answer from the channel partners he is misinformed. Usually they would get stock of stuff pretty quickly, maybe even hold their own stock, but as they are in constrainment, its a different ball game. Hope he does speak with Apple again and go into bat for you. My rep at DJs is trying to do the same thing, call APple and the purchasing people from the inside and put pressure on.

Sounds about right. Its getting obvious they are trying to husstle the resellers out of their market and get ppl to order direct online. If Apple offered 48mths interest free like DJ's does, id consider it

Awesome, thanks for sharing your adventure! I hope more ppl do the same and put pressure on for the orders to be filled. My prediction is that you wont see major apple products in retail stores soon, it will be apple stores or online only...

Keep us informed as you hear more news!

Forgot to post back, my 27" iMac arrived in perfect shape - with zero defects of any type.

Got to say that 27" is definitely huge. Almost too large for me to handle. But now I'm getting used to it. It's a real beauty!

No wonder there is a shortage Brisbane Guy is buying 2 at a time ;)

Add me to the list of people who have ordered a stock i5 from DJ's (Brisbane)
on 31/10 and I keep getting the same story, there are delays becuase of CPU's and graphics card shortages, but 5 to 7 days online from Apple.

What I don't understand is why places like Myers and DJ's are getting such a raw deal, when they have Apple employees in the store.

I already have the dual core so not so bad, the other one is for work.

I am not convinced that David Jones use a reseller. I have been told they (and seen them fill out the special Apple order book) buy direct from Apple. Myers I know buy there Apples diffrent to David Jones as I have been told they have a limited range they have on offer to them. A friend tried to buy a new revised version of the Macbook about 2 yrs ago with Myers and they could not order it in as it was not on there list of available Mac's. But David Jones on the same day where able to do this for her and ordered it in even though they had the older versions in stock (unlike Myers). I ordered a Mac Pro from DJ's about 3 yrs ago and this was direct with Apple as a BTO and I recieved it with in 10 working days.

David Jones though is allocated special stock from Apple and this is where the hold up is I feel. Apple are the ones screwing us over here and they are the ones that need to be blamed for this.

Yeh its all a bit sus huh..

I heard back from my rep today and he has pushed really hard via his sales manager for the buyers to play a bit more hardball with the channel partners. With all of your enquiries to the stores going up to the buyers they might be starting to get an idea.. I am waiting for the end of November to lodge my documentation, but keep calling them for updates, the reps should pass the complaints or enquiries up through the chain which will help.

Keep calling everyday asking for updates and remind them that people are receiving orders around you. so the excuses that the retailers are getting from apple are hardly realistic. DJ's and Myers deserve more respect from Apple as they are giving them business, they should not be put on containment and their orders held back behind web orders.

Keep up the good work!

So what happens if in the Black Friday\TGF the iMac is reduced by 10% should we get that discount passed on, or would you have to cancel the order and re-order effectively putting you at the back of the queue, with a status of God Knows When ?

Crikey, i wonders whats going on there? This is your replacement unit yeah?
Have the teletubbies on the helpline shed any info?
nope this is my original unit! having been waiting overly long but by the looks of it i wont have it for a long long time.

Sh*t man, what is going on. I bet the call centre monkey's shed ZERO light on the situation.
cant call atm on holidays (thus my slow replies lol, so forgive me). they wouldnt be able to do anything anyway.

There's the doorbell, my pulse races.............it's the TNT guy..OMG OMG OMG.
Holy sh*t, i really had no idea how fricken huge this thing is. I mean, it is just awesome to sit here and look at it. I think I am getting a suntan from the HUGE screen.

It is beautiful, I just never realised until it was sitting on my desk.:D

wow. SOOOO jealous! you lucky bugger! please report if you have any issues with your screen and whatnot! it looks incredible and im so happy for you :)

So I've had an order with a Sydney based reseller since 6/11 and still have no firm delivery date. They are getting the usual no CPUs etc stories from their Apple supplier.
Do you think I should cancel (if I'm able!) and place an order at the online Apple Store tomorrow (hopefully with 10% off!) or just stick with my reseller order? Is the 5-7 days quoted at the online Apple store accurate do we think?

I am not going to cancel my order even though I am annoyed. I feel by canceling the order to just then re-order with Apple is sort of giving Apple what they want. I do not want my local shop to miss out on the sale just because they are getting screwed over as I am by Apple. What I should be doing is buying a HP or something in protest to Apple, but I just can't do this as the mac is so good (damn you Apple)! :D

Bubbles: You are buying i5 or i7? i5 is available in both retail store and some resellers now.

Getting Mine either tomorrow or monday

I have heard that mac1 in canberra had stock shipped a few days ago so your milage may vary, at least they can get them in from sydney warehouse quickly if you order a standard model.

I never heard back from Mac1, so i decided to give them a call. The lady on the phone was very polite and she said that she had ONE in Melbourne. So i decided to take it and it will be at my local store either tomorrow but most likely monday. Can't Wait. :):):):):):):):):):):)

I've got an i5 on order with Myer for my wife, mainly so I could do it 12 months interest free with my Myer Card. Have tried to get an Apple order number with no luck. They just say 'early to mid december, may be delayed a week or two' over and over. Thats all I can get out of them.

thanks for directing me over to this thread. Been some great reading and now I finally understand the unreasonable delays to my order. A big THANK YOU is in store for you and the work you are doing.

It would appear that exactly the same thing is happening to resellers here in Canada. My respect for apple has dropped more than several notches from this whole experience. customer service/satisfaction cant drop any further as they are already at the bottom. Tomorrow I must make a big decision......
