wow. SOOOO jealous! you lucky bugger! please report if you have any issues with your screen and whatnot! it looks incredible and im so happy for you :)

Yeah mate, I have only pulled my i7 out of the box so far, and it looks great. No dead pixels, no flicker, no cracked glass, fired up first time no sweat. Will be pulling the wifes i5 out tonight and setting it up.

I got a shipping notification from Apple this afternoon that my iMac i7 has been shipped. I click on the tracking number....

...it opens up a TNT consignment tracker details page...

and it says..

EDEN PRAIRIE 13 May 2009 Delivered

!!!!

Weird! I think Eden prairie is in the US? and I'm waiting here in Melbourne, Oz. Must be an old tracking number. How could this have happen

I am not going to cancel my order even though I am annoyed. I feel by canceling the order to just then re-order with Apple is sort of giving Apple what they want. I do not want my local shop to miss out on the sale just because they are getting screwed over as I am by Apple. What I should be doing is buying a HP or something in protest to Apple, but I just can't do this as the mac is so good (damn you Apple)! :D

Out of curiosity, did it cost you the same amount of money to buy it at DJ/Myer/Wherever as from Apple? If so, the only thing the local store got was one extra person in the store that day.

Same happened to me - my tracking number showed a delivery from earlier this year to London. I scrolled further down and saw my delivery listed with a different reference number. The number given to you by Apple is simply a Consignment number - these appear to be recycled every so often.

Yea I got mine on 48Mnths interest free and $200.00 off if I got apple care with it, plus I will probably get another $50 gift voucher from DJ's for my extra points on my card.

They do make some money off of it and this is done through end of year bonus to my knowledge depending on how many units they sell through out the year.

Most Corporate IT resellers are working on 1.5 - 5% GP on computer sales now but at the end of the year depending on how much kit they sell they may get a big $$$ bonus and from what I have heard Myers and DJ's work on a similar thing with Apple.

I went to my local DJ's store and the guys there where trying to be quite helpful and honest with me to what they know. I think I will get it in the 2nd week in December as they said that around the 2nd or 3rd of December there is meant to be a big DJ deliver of iMacs (he could not remember if it was 200 or 2000 that DJ's where getting country wide). This information came from there Apple rep I was told (Who is Apple not a 3rd party rep).

Also I was talking to them about how DJ's get there machines. They do deal directly with Apple but they have a special Representative who is assigned to all the DJ stores (like a sales rep for them only) they deal with. Most of DJ's stock is large bulk buys allocated to them from Apple and the guy said that some times if you do a custom order through DJ's for an Apple computer, they can come in quicker as it does not come out of this allocated stock.

holy ***** you bought 2 iMacs and a MacBook?.... congrats man! and Apple's finest designs yet. dont think these bad boys will get a design update too soon.

LOL, yeah, 1 iMac and the MacBook are for me, for business, the other iMac is for the wife. She will also be doing work for me. But seriously, these iMacs are so friggin cheap now, can't go past them.

You are quite right. DJ's order their units via their buyers directly to the rep at the retail partner channel at apple. Apple have account managers who deal with DJ's reps and buyers (purchasing).
DJ's dont hold too much stock, just what they forecast for that period, and they might get shipped from apple anyway, inside their current allocation.

Normally (if there wasnt a constrainment on) if you ordered a stock unit it would be shipped from this assigned stock. If there was no stock left, you would have to wait until the next batch came in. If you ordered BTO (just add ram or something) your order would normally go through the same channel, but instead of waiting for stock to come in, the order goes straight out for fullfillment. Did anyone else notice the rep saying when you ordered that by adding something, it would speed up the order? I did, and normally this would be true.

in the case of a constrainment, ALL orders - either standard or BTO are stopped at the channel partner level at apple.

This is where we need to ask DJ's to get Apple to lift the constrainment and ship some orders. Even if it is the pre-orders, or yanno, upto a certain date.
The 20th of Nov was bandied about as a cutoff date to release orders upto so that they got some stock, but didnt affect apples online demand too much.
Its currently the 26th so it makes you wonder what happoned.

Yes, they check the price online and thats what you are charged.

DJs dont make money from selling Imacs (maybe a small commission at the end of the year).

They make money by getting you in the store, giving you 48mths interest free on a american express card and hoping that you will buy something else with it to start paying interest, or to move other stock. They might get a commission from AE also, who knows..

I had planned to look at adding a tv or something to my order, but thats looking lees than likey at the moment. I might just take the interest free and cut the card up..

I ordered from Myer and the Apple Rep (actually works for apple not Myer) was kind enough to place the order with Apple immediately for me right there and then. He even printed out the copy of the screen which seemed to be from the online store and it said "Thank you for shopping at The Apple store" and gave an order number.

Yesterday I got a call from Myer saying to expect major delays, possibly mid to late December at the earliest. Yet I'm watching people order i7s on 23/11 online and have it shipped out on the 26th!!

I informed him that Apple was screwing them and selling directly with instant shipping but he wouldn't believe me..

To make matters even worse, Apple even tries to beat the discounts you get from buying from Myer/DJs if you order directly from them (probably the Apple sales rep trying to make commision)......so let me ask you...why the hell did I buy from the reseller if my discount was achievable from Apple and with instant shipping too?

The blame lies PURELY with Apple...I wish I could cancel my order and order directly from the bastards but Myer quotes a 20% cancellation fee on their order form

I reckon before long you will only be able to by macs from Apple. They seem to be bullying the people that helped them to establish themselves. I am losing a lot of respect for Apple and quickly as well. And I think if they do this we could be back at pre 2001 where Apple was not so good and sweet.

I've done exactly that. Cancelled my order with my reseller and placed an order at the Apple store online early this morning for a slightly lower price, with a 7-10 day shipping date estimate. Thankfully my reseller was very understanding and has agreed to refund my $300 deposit. I did feel slack having to do this to them but reading all the comments here indicates that I may not have received before Christmas if I didn't order directly from Apple...bastards!!!

My order from 23/10/09, which yesterday went from "Ships: November" to "Ships: 5 - 7 business days", has today gone to "Prepared for Shipment".

The earliest delivery date is still 04/12/09, but from prior experience with Apple, I believe this will be the day I will receive the order.

I just got the sudden urge to reach for the bible and start praying.. "Dear God, please ensure my iMac arrives without any delays. thanks God" <knees off the carpet>

Just ordered a 27inch i5 iMac.

Apple seemed to have stretched the time to ship from 5-7 days to 7-10 days!

Due to ship on 11 Dec and delivered by 15 Dec.

On the up side, I saved $130 from the Black Friday Sale online.

* woot * God must have been listening!

[..as some people seemed to have had their iMacs held up in Pudong with this message: Pudong International Airport Connection Delay. Recovery Actions Underway. ]

Fingers and toes crossed, no delays

Just checking in guys, looks like you have not had any luck getting your gear any sooner. Looks like DJ's will do themselves out of business at this rate. Piss poor effort on their part.

I would also say, my 1 and only niggling issue with this new mac is the tracking one the mouse. Personally i wish I could turn it up more. The screen is soooo big, a little extra tracking would be nice.

I have mine turned up to one notch below the maximum, and becuase I have a translucent glass desk I had to get a mouse pad, the hard plastic type that gamers use, it's about A4 in size and I don't have to pick the mouse up anymore to navigate the entire screen size.

Actually I just searched the forums, and found this http://blog.boastr.net/. It is called Better Touch Tool. It puts the middle click option back onto the magic mouse, and lets you ramp up the tracking.

The iMac is much much better to use, now that I have installed this. I would suggest all of you who have one on order, download this ready for when it arrives. (And no, I don't get a kickback! Anyway it is free.)

Annoying

Hey everyone.

I have been following this thread for a while, while i was waiting. Thought i would post my story.
So I ordered a C2D 27" iMac when they were announced, went and got it from apple, no drama's with that.

I had the flash issues, and the screen would buzz when dimmed. I returned it. Thought i would just go all out and get myself the i7.
I ordered online on the 19th of November, it Shipped on the 23rd and was delivered today, 27th. No problems there either. (unlike some of you, which is so annoying)

So i get back from work today, open it up.. yellow screen.
I dont know if i can be bothered going through the process of returning. Considering the shipping times have now been extended further. It seems like every single iMac is problematic, Iv been a mac user since 1999, never had to return a mac. And i just had 2 lemons.

Anyway theres my rant.
