OMG light at the end of the tunnel! I just got this email:
I am afraid that I left out some information in my previous email hence giving you the misconception. As the quad core imac was pending agency approval hence we could not shipped out the product until we have gotten an approval. In addition, the option of "Ship Complete" was chosen during the purchase, hence the rest of the items would not be shipped even though they were ready for shipment. Anyway, we have just gotten the approval to ship out the quad core imac to Australia, therefore you would be receiving a shipment notification email from us very soon. I hope this clarifies everything and I apologize for any inconveniences caused.

I have no idea what agency he is referring to, or the bit about just gotten approval to ship the quad core to Australia, seeing as people here already have them, but it is a step in the right direction.

Of course the light at the end of the tunnel is always an oncoming train!

So it looks like none of us are going to do any better than shipping on the 24th, with delivery sometime around the 1 / 2 Dec.:(

Was hoping for it before then.

GOOD NEWS...sort of...for Sydney anyway

People in Sydney, Australia, there is stock of the i5 at Chatswood Chase and George Street Sydney stores. I picked mine up today. I was sick of waiting for my online order to come through. It's simply awesome!!!!:):):)

Any Apple 'rep' talking about waiting for government approval, or agency approval is just talking out of their arse. If anything, the computer components would already be certified to the relevant Australian requirements (such as CE, and any AS/NZ standards, blah blah).

The only real approval that Apple would need would be to pass the Customs inspections into Australia.

Ring the operator back and 'Tell him he's dreaming' (LOVE THE CASTLE!).

When mine gets here it's going straight to the pool room so I can enjoy some serenity.

I can vouch for the girlfriend thing. :p

Just to rub some more salt into the wounds, mine is now listed as in transit from Sydney as at 5pm ish. :)

lovely! how does one check their status?

When they ship, Apple sends you a tracking code and a link to the transport company's website (in our case, TNT). This website is where we are getting our info from.

But.... if it's in Sydney then it's looking good for a possible delivery tomorrow up here in Qld!

Alright i've just spent the entire day cleaning up, moving stuff, and building my new desk and FINALLY had the chance to take the imac out of the box and turn it on...

I've just come from a 19 inch non-widescreen vista computer to this mother of a thing and it's quite the jump!

HOWEVER... i haven't had the chance to see what this thing can do since the internet is extremely slow at the moment. I've done a search and seems like a few people have this problem with the new Snow Leopard.

If anyone knows of a solution to this it would be really appreciated, im going to continue searching but so far i'm not impressed with apple.

Don't worry, problem solved

You are the most Aussie person i havn't met. How cool is that? Im sure the delivery guy would have appreciated you not throwing up on him, but that depends on what you ate/drank last night. Getting thrown up on by hungover people is part of the job satisfaction of delivery people, im fairly certain.
Nothing worse than having to do something when you are hung over, and answering the door is right up there; its worse if you know the person, and they come in: all you want to do is to sneak out the back and chuck up the 2 bottles of red wine and the half cooked snags from the BBQ (when it ran out of gas) onto the roses and someone wont just piss off and leave you alone.

I say bugger setting up the families stuff for them. If they wont even answer the door for you while you are still half cut why should you have to do anything for them? If you dont have a desk to put the mac on, just run an extension cord to the dunny, and bring a bucket so you can chuck up from both ends while setting up firefox. Easy.

You have inspired me to get smashed every night from now until my mac gets here jsut incase the same thing happons.

If you are still reading this it means that you havnt set the mac up yet, so have a ralph, then get stuck into it. use the kitchen bench if you must, they can cook dinner around you, and it will save you valuable snack getting transit time.

translation - Im jealous.

Haha cheers man, i almost threw up on the delivery guy because he rang the door bell at 8:30 am and i only got home from celebrating my last uni exam for the semester at around 5-6ish so when i heard the door bell i usually ignore it but i looked out the window and saw a white delivery van and i knew it was my imac! Jumped out of bed and literally ran down the stairs, opened the door and that when i realised how hungover and sick i was since everything began to spin and im just like "excuse me..." and went in the garden =)

Imac is finally out the box and on my new desk! I must admit my setup does look pretty awesome. Parents and sis can wait i guess, i've spent ALL DAY building this desk. Parents agreed to buy my old computer so the sooner i set it up for them the sooner i can make a payment on my credit card.
