My Denon AVR passes through video to the TV when turned off so I can fire up the stereo preamp and spin records, CD's, or ALAC files. This weekend has a lot of great sporting events to watch but not many I care or need to listen to. (Soccer, Golf, and College Basketball to name a few). Now Playing: Michael Franks - The Art of Tea. Preceded by Jimmy Buffett - Living and Dying in 3/4 Time. JB always brings a smile to my face. A stack on the hearth cued up.

Speaking of which, I'm listening to Philippe Herreweghe/Collegium Vocale Gent's recording of the St. Matthew Passion. It's a great recording I have on my hard drive. I can't find it online. It's not the one that's on Spotify—this one I believe is from the 1990s.

Anything that ensemble does is just magnificent. I haven't come across a single recording of theirs I don't like. I'm tempted to buy the whole box set of cantatas recorded by them, because I'm missing those.
Herreweghe is excellent and his St. Matthew must be terrific. I have his performance of Bach's "Christmas Cantatas from Leipzig" on 2 SACDs. Also Jordi Savall recordings, another favorite. We should try to resurrect the Classical Music thread from a while back that got buried over time.

Right?!

It really is! I haven't come across a single recording of theirs I don't like. I have a LOT of Bach stuff already, which I'm very lucky to have, but I'm missing all the cantatas. I found a CD set from Herreweghe of all 190 or so cantatas. I'm currently in college and don't have a CD player in my dorm, but when I come back home for the summer, I am definitely getting that!

Cool! I like those, too.

I'm not familiar with Jordi Savall, I'll need to check that out!!
