Real diamonds are not anywhere near as rare as most people think. There are mountains of diamonds piled up in South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and many other places. They only seem rare as the DeBoors company wants you to think they are rare. In fact synthetic diamonds are now able to be manufactured up to a few carats in size and the quality is better than any "real" diamond dug up in the desert somewhere. Anyone who buys a real diamond is almost as stupid as the person who buys this app.

Real diamonds are status symbols because they're rare, but pictures of diamonds are a dime a dozen.

If anyone buys this thing it will be an accident, and then Apple will have some serious **** to deal with.

Damn. I wish I thought of that. :)
:)

I reeeeeeeaaally wish I would have thought of this too.
:) :)

You guys are getting really worked up over an app you're not forced to buy...

I think you all need to take a deep breath and get your priorities straight.
Funny isn't it.

Some are acting as if they had a gun to their heads. Amazing.

Folks - it's an application for the iPhone. That alone justifies the price premium. Well worth it in my book.

And just for proof, here is the secret message one gets when purchasing it:
A fool and his money are soon parted.
Well at least the secret message is true.

rich guy with an HP monitor?
:p

Help me. I paid for it and downloaded the app. It started once, then frooze, and has since disappeared. What do I do?
Cry?

if you really did buy it. (most likely you didn't) you can just download it again for free. You can download any app you purchased as many times as you want.
There's always this. Or see my post right above.

Please tell us how you really feel. :p

One of the reasons that I am, in fact, rich is that I do not squander money on such things.

Er...when one purchases a diamond, they aren't just purchasing a gemstone. The De Beers company controls the production and distribution of most of the diamond industry, therefore they are able to inflate the value of the diamonds. And people gladly buy these value-inflated diamonds because of their perceived sentimental value (i.e. engagement rings, necklaces). So, personally, I'm a bit insulted by your blanket statement that "Anyone who buys a real diamond is almost as stupid as the person who buys this app." There is something to be said for the additional value that goes along with purchasing high end gemstones for special occasions..

As for the app, I think it's genius. Not to mention satirical. And the measure of good satire is the number of people who get riled up over it.

I'm not sure I understand how or why this application's mere existence is so offensive. If someone can explain, I'm all ears.

Wrong.... diamonds are NOT RARE at all, your perception of diamonds created by advertising has made you think this way. There are tons, and TONS of diamonds in storage to keep the market the way they want it. Diamonds are a shiny rock and people pay thousands, even millions for them.

This app is about perception, not value, this app is a perfect example of a free market, it's worth what people pay.

Pictures are a dime a dozen... even the painted kind? Like the works of art worth millions? Everyone has their own idea of what has value, and clearly we all differ in that opinion.

I don't see value in the app either but I that's the great thing about art, it's wroth what the market will bring. While on vacation up near Yellowstone park I just watched a man purchase a carved wooden bear for $14,500 + tax and paid lord knows what to have it shipped to his home. To me it was rather ugly.. big chunk of wood, but to each his own.

Perception and value... things that make you mmmm....

You said it better than I did.

I'm really offended Apple approved this app. I am the biggest capitalist but we have to draw a line somewhere. With millions of people starving in the world, approving this app is just encouraging w**kers. You know someone will waste the money and buy it. It is just wrong.

For the love of God. Someone please develop a free version of this to take the piss.

Then you are NOT the biggest capitalist in the world. If it sells, there must be some demand. Capitalism allows for choice, good or bad.

hey dont hate the player hate the game!

if you cant afford it than move along.... please window shop somewhere else!
dont critizice others for having the ambition to make money...if he makes even one sale hes laughing!!! whats wrong with that? just cause none of you had the smarts to think of it first... imagine if you were the developer what would you think... besided i garantee that everyone here at one point or another has put up an item for sale with a price higher than its worth 'just to see what happens' if someone bites... what have you got to lose???

and as for apple allowing this into the appstore....well if they stand to gain $300 from a single purchase than why not???? 70% is for the developer and 30% is for apple... so why the hell not!??????

Here's a preview of my new app... I Am Poor

:p

this thread is hilarious and your post just put it over the edge as funniest thread ever. in all seriousness, you should create this app and sell it for $.99. why not?! you might make a few!

HOW do you make an app??

I really want to make some apps for iTunes, how do you make them and sell them?? Thanks! :D

One of the reasons that I am, in fact, rich is that I do not squander money on such things.
Ok, I was annoyed when the largely oversized photoshopped pictures came into play, but this hits a new low. I think it's safe to say this thread has hit rock bottom; can someone please lock it? If I see one more grammatically flawed post by a self declared maven who's self esteem pushes for a declaration of being rich on a MacRumors message board, I'll keel over.

On a side note, the application was funny at first. Then, people took it seriously.

ROFL. Getting a little excited over this?

You need a mac first of all. If you have never coded in your life than i would defiantly not bother wasting your time. I just was able to get a mac, and im beginning to use it. Is it learn able? Yes. In a day/week/month time frame? No.

If you want to do stuff like this, i suggest looking into X Code, C++, etc .
