scarcity is a motivator
Compared to Bill Gates' Windows OS, Apple has ruled the day ever since the first OSX. Now some criticize the Apple ecosystem; The way they handle things like photos and music for example. But given a choice between Apple and Bill Gates? After a few decades, I STRONGLY suspect the Windows OS paradigm is such that it is constantly engineered for vulnerabilities re computer virus. With a Windows device, unless you carry an ongoing anti-virus subscription, it will be bricked inside of two months. And adding insult to injury, anti-virus and security run in the background constantly, taxiing resources and processor power. In my hometown, a major public school system was grounded to a complete halt last January. Ransomware. Yet they still use Bill Gates' Microsoft OS and Bill Gates' Common Core. I can't say it clear enough. Bill Gates' devices are NOT welcome in my home. My Wife and Daughter both are forced to use one each. A litany of problems. One after the other. But our main personal use computers at this point are two M1 MacBook Airs and an 11" M1 iPad Pro.

So yes, scarcity is a motivator. But so is the fact that even with warts 'n all; the Apple products are just beyond Microsoft based stuff. I find it interesting that Bill Gates is now point man for the WHO on all things virus research related, and vaccine development/implementation (anti-virus) related. And exactly like the paradigm he set up for Microsoft OS, new viruses are constantly being developed and released; forcing (eventually) every man woman and child on the face of the earth to subscribe to a lifetime of vaccines, boosters, etc., every six months for the rest of their lives. Just like Microsoft OS based hardware. Spooky for us; $billions for Gates in terms of Microsoft OS anti-virus subscription plans; and maybe $trillions in terms of injections every six months for every man, woman and child on the face of the earth.

Imagine yourself, trying to sell any Bill Gates product or service. He concocted Common Core too, if you were unaware. MANY Apple Users I know are well aware of the Microsoft "dead elephant in the room". Apple isn't perfect by any stretch; but compared to Microsoft? BTW. The school district my wife teaches in, and my youngest still goes to school in, STILL uses Microsoft OS devices exclusively. And the vulnerability to malicious, rogue ransomware threats remains.

End of rant. I wish it was the end of Gates.....

I was disappointed when Apple went to CCP controlled China. But that was pre Wuhan and before the overtake of Hong Kong; and of course the current threat to Taiwan. For us KumBaya folks; for a while it seemed a good move. At this point I truly hope Apple can be persuaded to come back to the States. It would be a hit for a while, but soon, I think it would be great for all of us. I still consider Apple to be exclusively an American company that moved to China for cheap labor, zoning, tax and regulation. But they entered into a "symbiotic" relationship with the CCP in order to survive. How many $billions (I've already made two payments) has the CCP taken in, with no product delivered? And no guaranteed date of delivery? I gotta wonder. What other manufacturer exists in China, that has the extreme over-achieving history of competence, quality, R&D, as well as VALUE? In my humble, solitary opinion, it's time to get Apple back to the US.

Well my MBP has shipped! Dec 10 delivery date.

I’m convinced Apple changes your ship date to an extra two weeks, then gets it out before those new two weeks, but some time after your original date to psyop us into thinking Apple moves fast!

Ha anyway now the tracking woes begin.

Mine is still sitting in Shanghai. Been there since the 27th. Absolutely no movement.

I remain in the happy glow of UPS actually admitting they have my package, hahaha! My tracking number didn't show in their system until ~11:30PM, on Nov 29 (shipping notice email from Apple was sent to me 2:00AM local time Nov 25). It is sitting in Shanghai; I expect it to sit there a few more days based on plenty of anecdotes I've come across.

Apple order page says arrives by Nov 6; UPS says Nov 3. I'm choosing to have zero faith in either date, LOL. I won't even get excited until it's at least tracking in the U.S.

and your apple arrival quote currently is what if you look at the apple order status page?
Two different posted dates from Apple:
"Arrives Dec 8 - Dec 15"
"Arrives Mon Dec 06"

UPS is even more confusing.
First date posted (after three days of invalid #) was Mon Dec 06
Then it changed to Fri Dec 3.
Then it QUICKLY changed to what it says now: "The delivery date will be provided as soon as possible."

As I mentioned, it hasn't changed, at all, since the 27th. Remember, this is "expedited".

When I go online to the Apple Store, ANY "Build to Order" doesn't arrive til late December.
Not even iMacs or Mac Mini's; Mac Silicon OR Intel.

You might have excellent luck on the Apple Refurb site. Currently out of M1 iMacs and M1 Mini's, but lots of Intel configurations and a handful of upgraded M1 Macbook Pro's and Air's; expressed delivered in one day ...

Ordered the standard, 16" M1 Max, 32 gb, 1 tb configuration on 10/27 and it finally shipped this morning. Strangely, it shipped via DHL and I'm in the USA. I would guess that since UPS and FedEx are at at capacity, they are also shipping via DHL.
Beware of DHL shipping - it sucks. There was NEVER an estimated delivery date. In fact, when it arrived at the main location, I went online and changed the date to Friday since I am currently at work. About an hour later I get an alert that it is out for delivery! There is also no option to simply pick it up at their location.

Just off the phone with UPS international customer support. The guy basically said expect about a weeks delay. But that he would be shocked if it was not through United States customs this time next week which is the stage he believes you would actually get a delivery estimate.

Aaaaaand, just like that, UPS tracking no longer shows a delivery date...says "The delivery date will be provided as soon as possible."

hahahaha, as I said, I wasn't buying Apple's Dec 6 date, and for sure wasn't buying UPS's original Dec 3 date.

I ordered one in the uk end of October with a delivery date of 30/11-7/12 but still says processing. Just the standard 14" space grey. Been checking the local stores and they have stock which is annoying.

So I was just charged my MacBook Pro. How long does it usually take to go to preparing to ship from this point? Thanks :)

I didn't get charged until after it shipped. I got my preparing to ship notice on Nov. 26. I got charged 4 days later on Nov 30th. It's now 5 days later and my DHL tracker says it's now in Cincinatti on it's way to California. It took about 5 days for it to go from China to US and is expected to reach me in 2 more days.

In my case it didn't appear that I got charged until my laptop arrived in the US or was almost here.

Mine is the exact same. It is coming via FedEx which I despise. Ordered a phone and it was shipped via FedEx. They held it at the local distribution center which is an hour from me for a week due to “a natural disaster” only thing we could figure out is it sprinkled rain there. On a good note though, it appears it left out of China around 6:20 am their time.

Edit: It just showed up at NARITA-SHI JP. Dunno where the next stop will be!
