I don't understand why people give cash as a gift. Are the recipients of cash all students, or are proper adults with jobs also getting cash? It seems like such an awkward gift for an employed adult to receive from family or friends.

Me? I got:

- BlackBerry Playbook (which is the only thing I asked for).
- $25 gift card to the movies.
- Toronto Maple Leafs coffee thermos.
- 1 or 2 more things coming soon from my parents.

I'm 31, and no longer interested in receiving gifts.........or giving them, really. I bought my parents a 47" flatscreen TV, but I would have bought them that at any time. I only bought it for them for Xmas to follow social convention. :p

And it's so awkward buying gifts for other people if you haven't put much thought into it. Please don't feel the need to buy me something just because you feel that it's required (e.g. most gift cards). I'd rather not exchange gifts simply for the sake of doing so.

I'd rather get cash than gift cards for sure. At least you can do whatever you want with cash.

our family typically doesnt exchange cash of any kind. the closest thing to cash we get on christmas is everyone in the family exchanges envelopes with cards filled with a few scratch tickets.

Yes I am. I'm a bit confused on your response.

I guess I was just taken aback by the volume of gifts and the casualness of your comment, "Had a pretty good christmas". Any one of those single gifts would have floored me. That's all :) Glad you had a fun day, though!

----------

... snip!

So envious of your beautiful mandoline, hand mixer, and kitchen torch! I fully expect to see some beautiful ratatouille and some fantastic soups. And if you want to make me some crème brûlée, I wouldn't be too upset ;)

----------

I had a fun Christmas as well!

Big Bang Theory Quotes Calendar (LOVE THIS!)

And a few other odds 'n ends that I couldn't/didn't try to find pictures of :p Great Christmas, and my family loved their gifts! I had them do a scavenger hunt that included ordering word clues, deciphering a password to open a locked PDF, and determining the location of their gifts from a mysterious location

Mac Mini for the kids.

Good:

- liking Lion so far
- quick, quiet, typical Mac build quality

Bad:

- didn't recognize wireless mouse (non-apple) during startup, so to get it running I needed to find a USB mouse
- Did software update and some iCloud keychain error wouldn't go away without some crazy tweaking

Amazing:

- no optical drive, right? No worries, put a MS Office disk in my MBP, shared that drive, and install Office wirelessly in about 10 minutes with ZERO issues. Amazed at how simple that is.

Post a picture of what you received for Christmas. I actually received nothing, so I don't have a picture to post, but here's to those who received wonderful gifts!

You're not alone. I didn't get anything either and in fact, I'm trying to KEEP the things that I already have, after an abrupt change in finances.

Can I ask why you folks didn't get any presents?

Not trying to be nosey.. just interested, I guess. If it's too personal to share, I apologize.

christmas is not about getting present, it about joy and love from family & friend. The joy of happiness is priceless.

The Obol! I bought this for myself, my mother, and one of my roommates, as we all hate soggy cereal.

obolcerealdrip520.jpg

My new favorite shirt Peter Parkour. Spider Man is my favorite super hero and there is an inside joke between my friends and I about parkour.

bustedtees.2cbf7b88f1dc99b8fd5a390e0627e646.gif

A random assortment of personal care items, a few gift cards, a 366 day comic calendar.

And the joy in my heart as I helped distribute presents at my local elderly Health Care Center where I had my first internship. There is no better feeling than seeing their faces light up when you walk into the room, especially the ones who's family members can't/don't visit them over the holidays.
