On my Switch:
Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure - huge game, love the series, thoroughly enjoying this one, but taking a mid game (~50 hours in) to play ...
Advanced Wars 1+2 Re-boot Camp - played these on the GBA and my older son loved them as well. Fun going back to it. I like the graphics and performance for me is fine.

On Steam Deck I am replaying Risen 2: Dark Waters - first time since it was released. Wasn't a fan because it is a non-fantasy pirate game, completely different from Risen 1 (where I played as a mage) ... giving it a more open-minded (I hope) try this time. Several hours in, not a fan of tweaks to the melee system, interested to see how guns work.

Trying out Generation Zero on Xbox Series X. Has anyone else tried this? Not sure if I will finish this.

Been playing it for a while now - here's the thing you need to know:

As someone starting the game now, you're getting a VERY different experience to that available when the game was first released, and the main difference is the story.

Without spoiling, the original game has a story, a mystery you have to follow, and then a DLC expansion was released that brought a Russian invasion to the game, which radically changed the game world. For original players, that happened a significant amount of time after they'd started playing. For new players, that's how things are from the start. However the original story is still staged as originally written, despite the world being significantly altered.

On top of that, a base assault, base building, and base defence game was added in to the world - again, not part of the original game.

Effectively, the studio invested in a game world, made a game that didn't hit as big as they hoped, nd then tried to repurpose their investment to find a more popular game within the existing environment.

So just be aware of that - the world you'e playing in has multiple overlapping time periods, which are months apart in story chronology happening at the same time and same place.

It's a pretty fun game all the same, but sadly the story gets a bit lost.

Thanks for the info -- I couldn't quite place my finger on what it was about the game -- but I'm going to continue it as I do like these scrounging/survival kind of games. Plus I figured out how to kill my friend, so that was great.

I thought there was something wrong with TOTK because my switch kept saying it was overheating and going into sleep mode. Turns out, the fan is broken.

Without going into spoilers, I went into one of the divine beasts with only 3 hearts of health. Most of the battle I only had half a heart and no food. First try, I somehow beat him. I'll have to see what the other ones are like, but this one was a bit easy. Again, not being too specific because I know some hate spoilers.

This is something I worry about - I'm more of a PC gamer and have never been great at console games. It is why I never finished BotW - I do well early game but as the difficulty ramps I start dying and get annoyed and quit. The lack of a difficulty setting is honestly irritating. Just let me enjoy the beautiful game in peace.

I'm more of a PC gamer
I fluctuate, I've been a console player, now a PC game player and as of the other day a new owner of a PS5, so I'm now spending time back on a console.

I don't forese myself abandoning my pc gaming, but I do see the PS5 taking a more central role. I'm really enjoying the console, even though I just got it.

As for what I'm playing - God of War, Ragnarok. As noted in the PS5 thread, I'm into it just under an hour.

I don't game that often on my PC. I mostly use it for my photography/vids, recording tracks with my instruments and mixing, browse and streaming. I think most would consider my rig as a gaming PC, but I've bought more games for our PS5 in a year, than on my current PC rig built late 2020. Our Nintendo switch is still being used... bought the new Zelda game on release day. I haven't bought a day 1 release game on my PC since CP2077. I'll still game on my PC when I'm in the mood... I do enjoy PC VR gaming on my Quest 2.

I'm definitely spending more time on my PS5 playing then on my PC at the moment. I've been struggling to find a game or games on steam that grabs me, that's not been the case for the PS5 for the moment. I have like three games queued up waiting for me to finish my current game.

I'm still somewhat active in playing Fallout 76, and once the new Season starts up, I'll pick that game back up. Part of my doesn't want to lose the progress (I'm at level 772) but outside of the season stuff (that starts up next season) I don't see why I'm still playing but Bethesda hasn't released new story driven content. Just new group events. That means there's less new things for me, so less play time

I had a hankering to replay "Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines" ... had tried to install when I first got the Steam Deck but couldn't get it working. Tried again this weekend and still not reliable. So pulled out my Surface Pro laptop and am playing on this! Still one of my absolute favorite games, funny the references to things like 'living in the age of cell phone cameras' reminds us that this is from pre-smartphone/social media days!

I'm free! I finished Tears of the Kingdom! And I feel unwell. 🥴

I took the entire week off last week just to play it, and yesterday finished the game. I need something to help me recover from the post game fatigue. I'm thinking Just Cause 3. I need some mindless violence and explosions now.

Oh wow - I am making very, very slow progress ... but thoroughly enjoying it. I know at some point my mediocre controller skills will run up against the usual Zelda difficulty ramp, but going to do what I can until then!

My switch repair is finally coming on Wednesday. They repaired it for free, how nice of them. They probably felt bad that my TOTK experience got interrupted so rudely lol

So remember how I was gonna have mindless explosions to recover from the Tears of the Kingdom fatigue? Well that didn't happen. I took a hemp edible, and my brain went "I want Mario 3D World. Now"

Why do I do the things I do?

My kid bought this game on day one release. I presume he finished game? He likes to "No Damage" bosses for all games he plays and uploads vids on it. This morning he posted "ALL BOSSES - NO DAMAGE | The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom" video... so I think "ALL BOSSES" means he's done? but he's still playing the game. He mentions on the vid description that this is the game of the year for him so far... and his top favorite.

***Don't watch if you don't want to see boss spoilers***

Watching my kids game... makes me feel like I'm not a gamer... which I'm really not since I don't play as often.

The Open World Zeldas are massive. The main goal is to just kill Ganon, and both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom let you go to the final fight should you so choose to (though it will be incredibly difficult if you do) but how you get to that final fight is up to you. You can go the normal Zelda progression of getting the Master Sword and going through the dungeons then heading to the final fight, or you can explore and see what's in the world, as every nook and cranny has something. It's why Breath of the Wild won Game of the Year in 2017, as after you beat the game, many hopped right back in to see what else is there, which there's a lot. Even today people are still finding things in Breath of the Wild.

Playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom at a leisurely pace. It's good, but I'm nowhere near as hyped on it as most people seem to be. I dunno, something about it just seems a little off. Its not a bad game by any stretch and I would say that Breath of the Wild is in my Top 10 of all time and this is just as good as that, but I still don't feel like it's that interesting of a game. Go here, get a Korok seed or shrine power up, repeat. Same thing over and over. No real story to keep me interested, just the bog standard 'Save Hyrule from Gannon' thing.

Oh well. Maybe I've just moved on from this series. No biggie.
