Just completed Mafia 3 for the PS4:

My thoughts:

Mafia 3 had so much potential to be such a great game, but fell short on multiple levels. Especially being main story missions had two purposes throughout the whole game: Kill and destroy. That's it. Redundant, but very entertaining at times.

The amount of technical glitches in this game was completely uncalled for. Floating cars, stock icons, non-playable characters getting stuck, broken dialogue, etc.

This is the only game that actually froze on me in between sequences. I had to end the application and restart the game.

The positive notes on this game were the cut scenes for the main storyline of the game were very good, with strong dialogue/good graphically. The weapons were fun to use and had authenticity to them. Stealth kills were addicting and fun. The 1960s/70s Louisiana setting was very well done. The licensed soundtrack 2K chose for this game excellent with popular artists during that time frame.

However, graphically, the Map was not a game that enticed me to want to explore, as everything seemed to blend in and look the same, except when you were in to the marshland area.

The enemy artificial intelligence was horrible. The way they would move when they would shoot you, repeating the same redundant dialogue lines over again, not very smart on how they would approach you.

The Storyline started good, but overall disinterested me.

Conclusion: A lot of hard work went into this game from 2K/Hangar 13 and was very clear from the Setting During this era and it's a good game at best, but far from ever being great. Which I feel I could've had a lot more potential if some of these areas were addressed.

I finally finished the main story missions in Metal Gear Solid 5. 65 hours. Disappointing for a Metal Gear game. I did enjoy it well enough during the first 30 hours or so, sparse story and all. Up to that point there seemed to be something new to try out all the time - getting DD, then Quiet, new weapons/items to develop. Even the base management stuff wasn't too bad - expanding the platforms, seeking out new recruits, sending them on missions - like a better version of Peace Walker's Mother Base.

But around the 30 hour mark is when I got around to finishing Chapter 1 and that's when things started to feel really, really repetitive. Chapter 2 felt really lazy with the copy/pasted chapter 1 missions with higher difficulty or weapon restrictions. They could have at least removed the beginning and ending cutscenes for these missions I've already played. The Side Ops got boring and the Main Ops didn't feel a whole lot different than the Side Ops. The base management stuff got tiring as the novelty of developing a new assault rifle that isn't much different than your current assault rifle (so why bother?) wore off, especially as development time of new items gets longer and longer (real time).

If it hadn't been a METAL GEAR game (my favorite series) I would likely have quit after chapter 1. It ended up feeling like a grind to get to those final story missions. The final mission felt like a let down being a copy/paste of the very first mission with little (any?) changes until the final cutscenes. The ending was okay-ish with the twist that wasn't a very shocking twist.. It is neat how it ties into the story of all the other games. Too bad you have to listen to the cassette tapes to get a lot of the story - and you better sit in your chopper and listen to those tapes! Trying to listen to them while out on a mission doesn't work unless you like Miller/Ocelot talking over the tape you're trying to listen to as you approach a base or extract a soldier....

I think I'll give Outlast another try, as I got it free a couple months ago with Games with Gold, while I think about what Legend of Zelda game to start on next.
Maybe Link's Awakening DX.

Finished the "story" in Rayman Origins. :D

Need to gather 10 more Electoons to open the last treasure hunt, and supposedly there is another level that opens up after that. I'll see soon!

Fantastic game, so much fun and so well designed! :)

Have you played legends. Take everything amazing about origins and turn up the volume to 10

Finished BotW last week, now gone back to Horizon for my very hard difficulty playthrough. Other than the lack of gyro aiming, everything about the combat feels more real than in Zelda. I was never tense playing BotW, not even when facing Giger Ganon; Dark Beast Ganon was a joke compared to Redmaw. I'm nearly fifteen hours into the campaign for Andromeda. It's not ME1 by any stretch but it's fairly decent for a what it is. Call it a 6.

Just popped Andromeda in the PS4 drive! :D

I have a 1/4 of Horizon Zero Dawn left to finish, and Destiny's final update is coming up so there will be plenty of gaming for me to juggle.

Andromeda is good so far. There is a ton of content here. This game should easily suffice 75 Plus hours for full completion. It looks stunning as well.

Downloaded the Dark Souls III DLC before work. I only had 15 minutes to play... and this one's more opaque than ever. Usually you get an item or message hinting at where to go, but no such luck this time! A few areas in the bonfire menu have a new icon, but I don't see anything different about them.

I could just Google what to do, but I'd rather have a gentle hint than an outright instruction; can anyone hint at where I should be going?

Not sure, I'm still battling Bloodborne main campaign after this long and haven't factored in the old hunters DLC, goodness knows when I'll get around to completing Nier or DS3 ...

If you work it out post a clue in case anyone else is just as stuck.

Has anyone played Ghost Recon Wildlands? Does it scratch that Far Cry 2 itch? Is it fun to play as a single player game?
I'm playing it now and it is very similar to FC2. I never turn on the co-op and it plays just fine without it.

The story is about some US soldiers sent to Bolivia to take down a drug cartel and all the missions are working toward that goal. The story is a little thin, but the missions themselves are challenging and fun. You have a team of three soldiers working with you you can deploy in different ways.

There are tons of non-story side missions and some of them are a little repetitive.

But overall, yes the look and feel and general idea of sneaking into a village or compound and taking over is very much like FC2.

Sounds like my kind of game! I absolutely loved the setting of FC2, even though the story was forgettable. The environments were top notch, and I loved sneaking through the wilderness, scouting out the outposts / villages. Plenty of stealth opportunities!

Hmm, read a good deal about how buggy and jerky that game is - exaggerations? Probably keep an eye on it when it's going on sale..

About 6 hours into NieR: Automata. I had it for a week but haven't had much time to dedicate to it. Gameplay is so much fun.

Which icon are we talking about?

I'm about halfway through Link's Awakening DX. It's kind of bizarre, especially seeing all of the Mario enemies in a Zelda game. Dungeons have been good but the bosses have been too easy. Level 4 boss especially - beat him in like 5 seconds without taking damage just by mashing the sword attack in his face.

Started Gears of War 1.

It's terrible lol.

Let me rephrase...I am terrible. I think the age of shooters has past this old man gamer by and much more enjoy a different genre.

I just cant get into those types of games anymore it seems and lasted about an hour on this one and have no urge to go back which is disappointing because I have always heard such good things. I also was pumped to try the newest one on the S.

Making a dent in Horizon Zero Dawn.

Well, in terms of powering up Aloy anyway. I've just arrived in Meridian, and got to what I presume to be the end of the Hunters Lodge quest line. Along the way, I was sure to complete all of the challenges at the 5 Hunting Grounds (one of which resulted in me completing the Zeta and Rho Cauldrons) which give insane amounts of EXP for relatively easy tasks.

Finally about to delve into the story at Level 32, though I could be tempted by another side-quest to unlock some OP armour...

Which icon are we talking about?
The one to the right of Snowy Mountain Pass and Ariandel Chapel. I now see down the bottom it says "Ember indicates Host of Embers presence" but I've never seen this icon until now!
