Coming from a 6s, which larger screen better camera unit can anyone recommend? My eyes aren't great, I dislike getting more 'intimate' with gestures but I realize the button likely will have to go, and am not rich, but shoot a Nikon D810, so images are important to me, and advancements have been incredible since I used to shoot 8x10 sheet film! (Have had 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6). I am excited about upgrading my 6, see people here talking about 2020, but is the 2020 version, or even the 2019, going to be that much better than a cheaper older unit, e.g., an XR or something else? Thx!

Don't forget too, at least on the newer models there's a magnifying glass too!!!

Easily Available in the Control Center once you add it.

iPhone SE.

I will use it until it’s not supported...and then probably still keep using it even on not current iOS versions if I have to.

I don’t want phones that are physically as large as the 4.7” devices (or larger)

Three phones in my house.
My wife has an older SE. I have an SE I picked up on clearance a few months back. And for work I have a 7 I got this spring (replaced a 6 with battery issues). Also have an iPad Air2 for work - which makes a larger phone pretty much unnecessary.

Having both sizes, I am a total SE fan. Apple is missing the boat.

SE.

I’ll upgrade when Apple makes another SE-sized or 4s-sized phone. And at bare minimum it would need to have more storage, a better camera, and a new chip of course. It would also need to retain touch ID. And I would strongly prefer the same design.

iPhone 8 Plus. Just got it at a great price new and while it’s quite large I like it.
I would buy a new SE if they were too release an updated version of one.

This is probably the best place to ask about the dilemma I'm currently in.

I am using a 6 right now and was using a 6S until recently. I want to upgrade and I am conflicted between the 7 and 8. I am considering the 7 because of the price point and debating whether the 8 is worth the premium.

I was contemplating on the 7 Plus before, but the size of the phone is a deal-breaker for me. My 6S worked perfectly in every which way and the phone was not lacking in any department.

The pros I see in favour of 8 are primarily the camera and the better battery life. I don't think I'll ever end up using the wireless charging, so that doesn't add any value for me.

Any help would be much appreciated!

If you’re looking for a phone with a home button, I’d go with the 8. The processor is incredible and it will have an extra year of support over the 7 series. It also didn’t have some of the hardware problems the 7 did.

I have a XS Max and for once I’m not upgrading. In fact with how expensive these things have gotten i’m Planning on keeping it for another 3 years! Yes...3.
LOL. If I had the XS Max, I would probably keep it for at leas 5 year, not just 3. :D

Currently still on my launch 6s, still going strong. The only issue I have with it is its battery life. No way around such tiny battery. I will see how Apple price the iPhone 8 and the XR (or its successor) this coming September. Or I would just replace my 6s battery again.

Yup, the iPhone 8 seems like the most underrated iPhone ever, thanks to the X. The 8 is likely to be the next longevity model after the 5s since it’s the first iPhone with Apple’s custom GPU. Too bad Apple price it unattractively to push people getting the XR. I’m tempted to get the 8 Plus this coming September, depending how Apple would price it.

Just curious, what hardware issues did the iPhone 7 experience? I ask, because I didn’t experience any my 7 Plus. My 7 and work iPhone 8 have been flawless.

Currently have a XS Max and have no plans to upgrade for at least 3 years. The phone is very fast and smooth. I don’t see the need to upgrade at least for a couple of years. My previous phone before this one was the 6s plus.

Just want to know for those who upgrade every year or2, do you change your computer every years? At this point I just don’t understand why someone want a new phone so fast when current ones are overpowered and still will be very good years from now.

I like consumer tech, before my current X (phone number 27), I would change phones before owning it for a year just because I wanted something different (aesthetics, how I interact with it UI/UX and how it feels in hand), followed by performance and feature improvements. I switch back and forth to Android to see where its at but always come back to iPhones. Before the X I found more of a jump spec/performance wise and they were also cheaper. But now I don't see much of a reason to change until the phone starts to show its age. Nothing is really grabbing my attention aesthetic wise and UX on Android leaves me disappointed (last version used was Oreo).

My computers are normally high end builds which last me a while, the current is from 2013. I do how ever go through a bunch of peripherals to feed my need for wanting to change things up.

iPhone XR. It’s my perfect phone. I love everything about it. I won’t be upgrading until it stops working.

I’m on my 8 plus, I can’t say goodbye yet to the home button and or touch ID. I might upgrade next year if rumours where to come true about TOF in cameras and onscreen touchID with FaceID. No matter the price, I get it cheaper from my carrier. My monthly pay for my 8 plus would only cost me half the original price when I complete my contract.

There have been some problems with the audio IC chip on the logic board breaking causing the phone to not boot up or disable the microphones. I think it happens most often when the phone is stressed or flexed frequently. They called it “loop disease” at the time. There’s also a repair program for "No Service" issues.

I don't think three years is a stretch. I had my iPhone 4S (thought the 5 and 5S were hideous) and iPhone 6 Plus (6S and 7 were too derivative) for far longer. In fact, the only reason I upgraded from the 6 Plus at the time that I did was because I opted for the 16GB model, the rest of the hardware was still more than adequate for my needs. My iPhone X is still holding up very well, and I've used less than 100GB of its total space so far. So I'm planning to use it for another three years unless something revolutionary comes along.
