Remind me again of the title of the Mallé film you mentioned; he is certainly one of those directors whose work impresses me quite a lot. Thoughtful, intelligent, subtle.
It is The Prisoner (No 6), not The Prisoners. But, oh, wow, so brilliant (and especially so for the sixties, when it was made). Stylish, disturbing, clever, and such terrific acting and scripts. My brother and I were absolutely rivetted when we saw it as teenagers when it was broadcast in the late 70s. And even the opening credits......(watch it on YouTube), wow, James Bond had nothing on it.
