What's interesting is how it seems to be acceptable for people to say how little money they have, or what they can't afford, or how things are too expensive yet when someone says how money isn't a worry for them, oh, that's offensive. Those who toss their poverty into the conversation should be strong enough to be unaffected when someone tosses their wealth into the conversation.

I haven’t seen anybody here claim to be poor when criticising you flaunting apparent wealth in peoples faces. We are all here because we own iPhones so I highly doubt any of us are on the poverty line unless these items are bought on credit cards with no realistic way of paying it back. I am comfortable and am lucky enough to be able to buy most of the things I want. I fully sympathise with those who are less fortunate though. I’ve been in that position with student debt in the past. That has never been an issue here though, just the tone of and class judgement by others who assume it simply because the opinion isn’t shared.

The thread is entitled "reasons the iPhone 8 Plus is better than the X" and the topic of price is the #1 callout and rightfully so. The X is expensive.

I am pointing out that Apple is, for the first time, creating a new tier of iPhone that is very expensive to cater to the luxury crowd that heretofore has been ignored by Apple, no different than they did with their premium MacBook and their premium Watch. In America, we identify consumer segments using terms like upper class, middle class, and lower class.

If you take my posts personally because you identify with one of those groups and it sounds derogatory, that's on you, not me. If you don't want to participate in a conversation that is, in part, about affordability and those who can/can't afford a certain Apple product, perhaps you should find another thread to join.

Quoted your post for convenience. Price is the #1 difference?
Like I said, you sit behind a keyboard, for all we know you aren't like you say and have all this money.

You have to combine the 8 sales.

Apple's iPhone 8 OUTSOLD its FLAGSHIP iPhone X In 2017

I'm going to say this once and be done. You can't aggregate 8 and 8 Plus (or 7 and 7 Plus) sales to compare with the X. The regular and Plus phones are separate phones. If you doubt this, think about what would happen if Apple introduced a new policy under which buyers were told that they would be randomly given either an 8 or an 8 Plus, and could not choose which or return/exchange the phone. These are very separate products.

It’s also worth saying that certain models are more or less popular depending on the country. The Plus was historically less popular in my country despite overtaking the standard model in global popularity. It’s these local trends I think that produce such differing views on here with perceived popularity. I read an article a while back that pointed out fashion trends in certain cultures affect the popularity of larger devices, especially slim trousers and jeans and the inability to carry Plus size iPhones etc.

Price is also the major reason the iPhone X is significantly more popular in the US than it is in Europe. Our market state has driven consumers to spend less of late and think more practically and the rather stagnant smartphone market has suffered here because of this.

1. Proper aspect ratio for video viewing.
2. Superior battery life.
3. DND, alarm, and battery percentage showing in the status bar.
4. Easy access to Control Center.
5. Cheaper.
6. Wider screen.
7. Easier to unlock on a flat surface.

Just stop it already. If you want to take this tangent about your financial situation further, PM me and I'll be happy to give you my opinion.

I’m not sure how you could answer anything about my financial situation as you don’t know me from Adam. This off topic tangent is yours so I’ve sent a very polite PM to hear your views.

You can think and say what you want, but that is not how they do it. Phone sales for that model are put together. Even the S8 and S8 plus are done together.

No, they're not. Does Ford put sales for the Focus and the F-150 together because they both start with the letter "F"?

Just because they share the number "8" doesn't mean they are the same thing. There are regular sized customers and there are plus sized customers and they are polar opposites. If Apple discontinued the regular sized iPhone and only offered a plus size, I'd buy up a few iPhone 7's to last me a decade.

I have been following this thread for the past few days. I'm the guy who did the comparison between the 8 Plus and the X. I own both phones and I think I am more than suitable to say which is best... and that is the iPhone X.

Hate it to break it to you guys. I know this thread is about how the 8 Plus is better than the X, and the 8 Plus does have a few strong points. Mainly battery life. But overall, the X wins.

Who said the X is flawed? How exactly is it flawed?

Yes there is a notch. They had a choice. Have a massive forehead above the screen, or push at least the corners of the screen to the edges of the device. Apple did the right thing. I'd rather have this than have a forehead at the top.

Touch ID is not better than Face ID. Anyone who says it's better haven't used Face ID. I have sweaty palms and on average, Touch ID fails about 10 times a day. Guess how many times Face ID fails? Zero. Its incredible. As long as I'm in front of the phone, it NEVER fails. It feels so natural to just pick up the phone and start using it.

Someone on here said that the guestures suck. You know how easy it is to switch apps on the X? You just swipe across the home bar. You never have to bring up the multitasking menu. It's incredibly convenient, and you won't know how good it is until you use it.

Swiping up to close apps feel far more natural than pressing the home button. The guestures are so good, I couldn't go back to my 8 Plus. I rarely use it now. I keep swiping on the bottom of the screen. Lol.

The only thing I'm missing is the extra hour of battery life. But plugging it in for 30 mins solves that.

Whoever thinks the X is a failure and that it has "half baked tech", need to start using one. Give it 3 days. You won't go back to your 8 Plus.

True story. Can't combine sales of the 8 and 8 Plus vs the X. That's unfair.

I don't know the actual numbers, nor do I care. I didn't buy my X just because everyone else was buying it. Quite the opposite in fact! But I will take your word because you seem to know what you're talking about.

I don't get why people care so much about this! Just because one product sold more than the other, doesn't make it better! Toyota sells more Corollas than Ferrari sells 488s. Does that make the Corolla better? LOL

This is why the topic has become more about you than actually the 2 phones. You’re constantly trying to say people buy the 8 plus because they are poor, miserable beggars and can’t “afford” the device and everyone else is saying that they just chose not to buy it for various reasons. And then you started bragging about wearing a $17000 watch. You sound like a teenager showing off to his peers.

I mean the difference between the 2 devices is just $200. It’s absurd to think that someone can afford to buy a 8 Plus but can’t spend $200 more. You’re not willing to accept the fact that “value” of anything is a subjective thing.

He didn't say that. Everyone else did, by justifying why they bought the 8 Plus saying that the X is "too expensive", even though it's only "$200" more. What does that say?

Have you not read his condescending comments?! He’s saying $200 makes the difference between a beggar and a billionaire (he certainly is, as he portrayed ).

It says value is a subjective thing and those who opted for the 8 Plus in those circumstances decided the X wasn’t worth the extra. It’s not always a case of not ‘being able to afford it’ like our resident millionaire likes to point out all too often, it’s about individual choice.

I've come to the conclusion from all the crap he posts in threads like this, that he's either a troll or a fantasist. I like to think that nobody can sincerely be crass enough to suggest that owning a phone makes you better than someone who doesn't or that owning a Mercedes makes you somehow elite. Either way he shouldn't be fed. Hopefully ignoring all the vulgar self promotion might lead him to give it a rest.

The only reason the 8+ could be considered "better" is video. If you watch a lot of video on your phone, the Plus is likely the better option for you. Otherwise, the X is the way to go.

Battery life? Thats a clear objective benefit of the 8+ over the X - not even getting into the personal preference stuff like touch ID or face ID; oled vs LCD.

A lot of reports have the X beating the Plus in battery life. With that, it really depends on the user though so it can vary. For me, I take it off the charger in the morning and put it on at night. I'd assume most people are the same. If it lasts all day, I don't feel like it's a negative to the experience at all.

I don't think I have seen anything to suggest the X going better in battery life - certainly not from any of the reviewers I trust to give sound, objective reviews. Sure it'll be more valuable to some than others, but its not something that anyone would say no to. Most of the people I know with non plus iPhones (including a couple of colleagues with the X) say they find the battery life wanting.

Tom's guide (as one example) had battery at 10:49 for the X versus 11:16 for the Plus. I don't see that as any rel advantage. That's true, the non plus or X phones battery life is not great. The X has great battery life though, I usually put it on the charger with 40% left and I am a fairly heavy user.

I've come full circle on this. Had an iPhone X for awhile and ultimately decided it wasn't worth ~$1100 (after tax for base) so I picked up a used 8 Plus and used Pixel 2 for just a bit more total than the X. I really liked the battery life of the 8 Plus and loved the little Pixel 2 as my Android device. Also liked the wider screen of the 8 Plus. But I just couldn't stop wanting an X again. Call me weird or whatever but I really just like having the latest and greatest tech and feel like I was a bit behind the times with the 8 Plus and Pixel 2. Sold both recently and picked up an X again and couldn't be happier. I work hard for my money so I like buying nice things every now and then and the X is an amazing piece of tech that I'm going to keep until the next iPhone comes out at least!

Had an X for five weeks and gave it back in favor of a 7. So I think I'm more than qualified to say which is best, too, and it isn't the X. You're welcome to your opinion, and I hope a lot of people agree with it so that Apple can keep this product line developing. You don't need to "break it to us." We get it - you like the X better. Other people don't, and you aren't any more correct than they are.

By the way, once we're talking about $800-1000, I agree with people who are saying that cost really isn't a factor. If you're willing and able to spend $800 on a phone, it's had to believe that there are too many people for whom the additional $200 would be a deal-breaker, especially given some of the tech differences, which would probably be much bigger factors in a decision between these two phones.

Thank you. Precisely. If an argument gets made that the X is "too expensive", then one must accept the fact that since it's Apple's best selling product every week since it was released that for millions of people, and many people in this forum, it's "not expensive at all". It's crazy to accuse someone who has no problem with the cost of being some sort of 'show off' when what's also going on are people complaining about the cost and giving examples of their hardship. If we're personalizing our commentary on the price of the 8 Plus and the X with our own experiences, it goes in both directions.

You are confusing my beliefs on Apple's marketing strategy (X as a luxury status symbol) with my personal values. If you have an issue with the pricing on the X or the consumers it alienates, I suggest you write a letter to Apple. I'd appreciate it if you leave me alone.
