I configured a low end PC.

$530, including backup (a bit short) but not peripherals:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/QqpTD2

As there would be 4 SATA ports already occupied, I looked for a motherboard with at least 6.

I found a good deal, but it means it would probably need a BIOS update for Raven Ridge, which could be a hassle even if AMD loans you a Bristol Ridge for this.

So, I selected a Bristol Ridge APU, which would be a bit slower as a CPU but with more powerful graphics than the 200GE.

This APU cannot run memory faster than 2666MHz, but 3000MHz is cheaper and better for Zen later.

The money saved on the motherboard can be put towards a 2200G in the future.

A sea of green
I've liked the following poem for a very long time.

It has a different focus than "In Flanders Fields", making a nice counterpoint.

There Will Come Soft Rains

There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground,
And swallows circling with their shimmering sound;

And frogs in the pools singing at night,
And wild plum-trees in tremulous white;

Robins will wear their feathery fire
Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire;

And not one will know of the war, not one
Will care at last when it is done.

Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree
If mankind perished utterly;

And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn,
Would scarcely know that we were gone.

-- Sara Teasdale, 1918

I've also liked the Ray Bradbury short story with the same title for nearly as long.
The poem led me to the story, so it was fated.

@cube Here’s a forum that might be better for your PC thoughts

https://forums.macrumors.com/forums/alternatives-to-mac-hardware.197/
[doublepost=1541994602][/doublepost]Now it have gone 2 months since the Swedish election, still no new government.
Well, they are discussing and talking, over and over, and it seems mostly like the right wing are being more split. We’ll see where it will go with all probing, and new probing again.
Ah, well, as long as it’s not anarchy.
Old government is still sitting until new have been formed.

Just reflecting in how this is affecting me on an inner plane.
Do I change my inner guidance at the moment.
Proably, not that it have anything to do with politic as ideas.
But probably a different shift of power inside.

Nevertheless, a new phase in my life is certainly in the beginning :)

Any place but here or there....
Yes, but I had already started here.
Maybe ask the mods if they would move these posts to that sub forum ? Or just copy the contents and create/join a thread there. That sub forum is filled with folks who will be glad to discuss builds. I have learned some great things there. :)

What is on my mind?

Trying to stay positive and do I go slightly out of my way this a.m. to Whole Foods to buy Maple Almond butter bars as breakfast for a few days this week?

Hope it doesn't mean you will continue making this thread to a PC thread.

About 15 or so posts ago, it started out as a speculative comparison of a DIY Winders™ box vs. the new Mac Mini, figured, yeah, that's kind of a "what's on my mind" sort of thing, people - myself included - ruminating over the new Mac Mini, but it has subsequently become a series of PC-build-stream-of-consciousness posts :D

I don't "mind" that - as it does conform to the thread title, given that it is clearly very much on the writer's mind.

However, others have different things on their minds.

Yep, doesn't bother me, more of an observation - for a few posts, I wasn't even clear the context, I __thought__ one was a reply to me, but not really, just more "thinking out loud" about a Windows box.

Not that anyone asked, but I am going to be buying a new Mac Mini when the dust settles after the holidays/new year :)

Thinking about the bird watching I saw today (both on the way to work).

A.M. - we have very obnoxious starlings on our block and a couple of blue jays (one of my favorite birds). One starling tried to push a Jay out of its nest and Jay wouldn’t have it. The blue jay not only booted the starling out of its nest, but took that fight down to the sidewalk. Blue Jay promptly reclaimed its space. I know Jays are aggressive, but this was the first time I’d ever seen one get territorial.

P.M. the pigeons in Manhattan do not give a fig about people (case in point the flock walking along one sidewalk the other day like they owned it), anyway, today they were divebombing in and around people and one pigeon conked his head on a glass window because it couldn’t stop in time. It was okay, as it took off pretending that never happened.

It was interesting and I was so fascinated by the A.M. incident, I almost missed my train.

And -yes- I went out of my way for Maple Almond Butter bars.

I do not mind PC talk, but if that person was looking for feedback or advice, the sub forum would be perfect.

Now I have to think about work as
I am due to start again shortly.

An update to the last video. There's a new version of the case which is cheaper and more complete:

The Blue Jays here are noisy as heck too. I’m seeing colorful cardinals at the feeder. Gorgeous!

Trying!
[doublepost=1541960884][/doublepost]
It could be better as well! November is my least favourite month.

I'm having to try too. In my neck of the woods it now gets pitch dark by 5pm and so November is mostly good just for separating Halloween from the winter holidays unless one enjoys hosting Thanksgiving festivities. This year at last I drew the "travel-to" straw on that score, which can also be a challenge. We're headed to the shores of Lake Ontario for the gathering, and the last time we did that we drove through what ended up a 14" snowdump.

My only stellar achievement today, looking past a few routine Monday chores and shuffling some turtlenecks and sweaters into easy access in my closet? Making my countdown item for the solstice! Even at that I'm grouchy over the rounding effect: it's not a full 40 days left... just 39 days as of 5:24pm.

So I started feeling cold symptoms on Monday. I had a sore throat on Tuesday and Wednesday. By Thursday morning, the sore throat was gone and there were no other symptoms. For the next to days I felt fine, then yesterday, the cold returns where it left off with a vengeance. I love getting better, then suddenly getting worse again. Fun. :rolleyes:

I know people who never get sick, but I'm lucky if I only get two colds a year.

Feel better soon! You will also probably get a lot of tips on how to dodge a cold. I figure if one has my name on it, I'm gonna get it no matter what. I too have sometimes fought one off, or thought I did, and waked up a few days later on the losing side after all. I get fewer now than when working in NYC -- I'm no longer riding the trains to avail myself of extra opportunities! But, there are still all those little kids coughing and sneezing in the checkout line at the grocery. I tell myself they exist to toughen up my immune system. Gotta tell myself something if I really want whatever's in my grocery cart while in line behind a sneezer. Sometimes I'm tempted to bail.

On my mind: a flu shot. I don't believe in mind over matter on the flu. I'm not at the age I can really afford to skip one any more.

^Thank you :) Being a college student, I'm sure, exposes me to more germs than many. Even worse was when I worked in an elementary school library.

I did get a flu shot about a month ago; I'm at least confident that I won't be getting the flu. And on the plus side, this hopefully means I won't be getting sick right around Christmas, which has happened to me more than once.

Librarian sounds like a prime target for cold germ acquisition, yes! Only thing unluckier than K-4 academic staff regarding cold germs might be the bus drivers who cart them to and from the "trading floor" :rolleyes: every weekday during the height of the season.
