Lots of nasty respiratory diseases going around lately, so we had this year's flu shots last week.
Awww... yep. I just only got my voice all the way back after my bad cold two weeks ago. I lost pretty much all the low end to my voice, which was really annoying. For the last two weeks, I've had a scratchy voice with only about an octave of vocal range (I was not able to hit all the really low notes I can usually, until about yesterday).

I also make sure to get all available vaccines every year, as COVID put me in the hospital when I got it... yeah, not good.

Tonight is the first time I've eaten in over 48 hours, so that felt really good!

Also, the end of the term is very much on my mind. Next week will be a bit chaotic, but I look forward to going home afterwards!

Bank holiday Monday.
Sun is shining.
Off for an early morning walk with Mrs AFB.
Then maybe some gardening.
So basically just an extra Sunday.

Rain here in Lancashire. A day of packing, checking the car and getting ready for my trip to Glasgow. Think I’m packing for a month not 5 days!!

Just had a shower here. Fortunately I’d just finished cutting through a tree with my hand saw.

As for packing I’m pretty good at it. But if I’m doing photography and staying away, the boot is full!

.. rather damp and cool here on BC's "west and wet coast" as well. Food shopped early-morning locally (on foot) in some quite heavy rain yesterday .... would like to get out for a walk and potential 'photo shoot' this morning, but at this time, wondering why? :)

Bright sunshine and heavy rain on and off all morning here in Wales. No chance of doing anything outside for us annoyingly.

Yeah I’ve never seen rain fall like it and it definitely rains for 380 days a year here. I ended up escaping the cabin fever by cleaning the inside of my wife’s car. I have no idea how she manages to spill so many things, fill compartments with so much rubbish and lose so much hair??? Looks better now though.

That piano black interior is a nightmare to keep clean. Personally I have a strict no eating policy in my car. As for hair I really don’t have too much to worry about getting all over the place.

There’s not a lot of piano black in this car thankfully, just a bit around the centre console and by the handles. I don’t eat in my own car but it’s impossible on this one when it’s the main car at weekends and such.

I don’t have those worries. The car really only goes to work and back. Mrs AFB never eats in the car (or anywhere other than the house) due to her many issues.

I saw no veterans today. Hopefully, they were being recognized for their service. I've been to three military funerals. The good thing is that no one said "Happy Memorial Day".

Remembering my U.S. Navy parents, I don't recall ever going to a Memorial Day ceremony away from any military base when we lived close to base.

Many of the minor/cable/streaming networks are running war movies. I wonder if the general public does more than cook out.

It just occurred to me that I didn't see the "Run for the Wall" come by me this year. Of course, it's because I moved.

But I remember every year they would come across I-64 headed to DC. One year they even flew a Huey.

I wonder if the general public does more than cook out.

Probably not.

This is closer to shower thoughts. Most of us are familiar with the story of David and Goliath. Overwhelming underdog, the shepherd boy, David knocked out the gigantic Philistine champion, Goliath and cut off the warrior's head with his own sword.

Here's the thing that bothers me about the story. It's said that stone from the David's sling struck Goliath in the forehead. He was wearing a helmet at the time. His forehead would have been protected. The stone would have bounced harmlessly off the helmet.🤨 Judging from the height difference Goliath standing at 6 cubits and a span (about 3 meters or 9 feet 9 inches) and David, runt of Jesse's litter (guessing 1.6 meters or 5 feet tall).
David-Goliath.jpg

It's a lot more plausible that David struck elsewhere. The only place I can think where a stone could that kind of damage would be...umm...Goliath's heuvos.

In ancient times, that area was largely unprotected to keep the warrior unencumbered. Truly a case of the victor writing history.

I am frustrated with both my Macs right now. Just thinking about how my MBA isn't upgradable in any way, and lacks decent port selection—thinking about what to do there. And my iMac seems to run my external monitor at the wrong color depth, so that's great. Not to mention the Fusion Drive will inevitably fail, as they all do.

Have you considered an inexpensive USB type-C dock or hub like these? I've got a hub for each laptop computer and another for my Steam Deck.

I got something like that for my work-supplied laptop (Lenovo thinkpad) and it's very useful.
Gone are the days when you have to spend US$200 or $300 to get something useful. The one I can put into my pocket can output to an HDMI-connected monitor. There are some portable models that will drive two 4K monitors.

Depending on the force or velocity of the stone (or weapon in question) perhaps.

Or, could a sling shot take (have taken) the form of two stone missiles hurled (and hitting their target) in rapid succession?

In any case, what prompted my response is that I seem to recall reading about the dent in the helmet (subsequently removed, it is thought) - and subsequent head injury (expressed by a visible dent or depression in his skull, yes, the one found underneath Grey Friars carpark in 2012, in Leicester) - that Richard III is supposed to have suffered at Bosworth Field in 1485.

I have one, so that's all great. Just non-upgradability that's getting to me. A Windows laptop may just be the answer to that though, not sure.
I bought a fully-loaded refurbished M1 MacBook Air, partly because I like refurbished/double-checked machines and because the fully-loaded model was too expensive, and I used to buy the high end MacBook or PowerBook machines without thinking too much.

Besides that, I got a good deal on an ASUS ZenBook Pro Creator's machine. The specifications aren't all that different but the discrete graphics hardware and the OLED technology help, plus it was a bit less expensive even with a metal body. I don't care for Windows but it (mostly) works.

That frustration time is inevitable with Apple stuff, and most other stuff too 😐
So I’m enjoying the time when the Mac’s are new to relatively new, before they gets slow and older.
For now, I'm happy with both my Macs and the iDevises. But it won't last forever, but a few years.
My Studio is not as blazing fast as it was as new (2022), but still very good though and hopefully ok for another ~3 years. Then we have to go through the upgrade process again.
The 2024 MBA actually has 2 USB-C-ports + magsafe. Wow, for coming from Apple.
So I haven’t needed my old hub to the MBA, but I have a few USB-A disks that I use only for Time Machine with the Studio and a big old USB-A hub serves good for those and old USB-A things.
Usb-C ports are enough on the Studio, so no problem there.
